This hotel / resort is magic.
Casa de Sierra Nevada exceeded our high expectations, in every which way. From the gorgeous grounds that are reminiscent of Northern Italy or Marrakech, to the incredible food that delighted with each bite, to the truly outstanding service. We loved this unique, historical, resort and thought it was incredibly good value for the money.
We stayed for 5 nights over the Senior de la Conquista celebration in early March. This time of year brought us warm, dry days, and chilly, breezy nights.
Fortunately, our Junior Suite a few doors down in the Caballo house had a lovely fireplace that kept us warm at night, and was a quick walk to the GORGEOUS garden pool across the street. While our suite was facing the street, between the crackling fire and the quiet hum of the AC, we were able to drown out most of the noise. The bells from the Cathedral could bother a light sleeper, but I found them soothing. The fireplace was a nice touch (and Juan Jose, the maintenance employee who lit it each night was a wealth of knowledge of the area!) and the pullaway couch on the second floor would be perfect if we had someone else staying with us. Instead, we used the couch upstairs mostly for our daily coffee.
We spent most days in a similar pattern:
- Call complimentary coffee service to our room (excellent coffee, espresso, or cafe de olla)
- Get ready for the day - using the luxurious bath products the housekeeping staff refreshed each day
- Have a gourmet 3 course breakfast at the Andanza or Parque (andanza was open the whole time we were there, parque only for 2 days). Their juice blends were out of this world - as were their huevos rancheros with a side of shrimp!
- Explore the town, which was literally mere steps away from our suite, for a few hours
- Hit the pool by 2 or 3 each day, enjoy a Paloma or a Chelada and the quiet fluttering of the bougainvillea and butterflies throughout the impeccable garden
- Go back to our room, freshen up for rooftop cocktails and a gourmet dinner - all of which Isaac, their impossibly well connected concierge, got us lined up for
- Come back around 10, grab a glass of wine from the Blue Bar or a bottle from the nearby ICAVI secret wine room, call Juan Jose to start the fire, hear about the town and surrounding regions as he lights fire
- Pass out to the blissful sounds of quiet that overcomes the streets at night
We stopped by a couple of the other luxury resorts, and while they were fine - we much preferred the vibe of the Belmond read more
