I walked up and down Rye Street for a while until I realised the studio was in the same building as a hair salon... I walked through the salon, whilst having some weird looks pointed my way. Not the most comfortable situations I've been in! I eventually got to the reception desk (after being swept up in hair) and asked about having a tattoo quote. The guy I originally spoke to disappeared and a new male appeared. I enquired about my two potential tattoo designs. I had one smaller than the other and was quoted £80 for the smaller and £90 for the much larger (much much larger). I won't lie I felt slightly cheated by the quotes. I then asked how it worked with booking and as to whether I could book on the phone. I felt like I was being treated like a child, and had asked for a lolly pop without my parents acceptance for the first time... I was sniggered at and told that if I wanted to book i'd have to come back and book an appointment and pay a deposit. Fair doos but don't laugh at me. In honesty, I felt uncomfortable, disregarded and put down by the whole experience. I haven't had the full experience but I don't think I'd opt to either.

I went in with a basic idea of what I wanted and I was paired with an artist (Jeff, the owner) whose style matched my ideas. My only complaint would be that it took him a very long time to get me samples of what my ink would look like, but I understand that he likely has appointments booked every single day that he is sketching for. He provided ideas but ultimately went with what I wanted for the piece. On the day of, Jeff was very informative about what I would feel during and what I should do for aftercare. I went with the design I wanted, and because it was small and straightforward I was seen within 20 minutes. I can't compare the place with anything as this was my first tattoo, but I had looked around reviews on the Internet and this place was well rated. Seeing lots of people there was reassuring as well. The place was clean and well-kept. The tattoo was done in a semi-private room, with sterile gloves and a fresh needle which I watched him take out of the new wrapper. All very professional. The result is exactly as I wanted it, after a small modification they discussed what I wanted and how it would work, advised me, and we agreed on that small modification which I'm happy with. There was no scabbing or any healing problems, as I followed their directions.

As with any tattoo artist, a full range of body piercing is available as well, and at a cost of only £25, you can definitely be the main cause of conniptions in your home within a few minutes.

I was able to get a same day appointment, which was great. I don't recommend impulse tattoos, but I'd been thinking about it for a while so I knew I wouldn't regret it. When I came back for my appointment, an artist called Steli (seriously good) did my tattoo. It took him 2 hours and I really feel I must point this out: I brought an outline of the design I wanted. He took about half an hour to do it and then told me he had an idea for more that could be added to it. He asked if I was ok with this. I placed my trust in him and I'm glad I did. He spent the next one and a half hours adding numerous details (including some white to give it extra shine) to really bring it to life. It's currently my favourite tattoo and it practically leaps off my skin. When I came back after the healing period (three weeks), he was impressed with how well I'd looked after it. Another plus is that as they are in south London, their prices are reasonable rather than through the roof, unlike many tattoo shops in north and central London. I did a lot of research before deciding on this shop. A LOT…read more Mind, this was not my first tattoo. Not even my second. This was my fourth - it just happened to be my first tattoo done by someone other than my regular US guy, Guf. But I knew that if I was getting a tattoo on this trip, it was going to have to be done in London, for the meaning of it all. As I say, I did a lot of research. I corresponded with several shops via e-mail, since we weren't in the UK at the time. The tattoos that we wanted were fairly simple - a band logo, all black, and nothing special or crazy to be done with them. I even sent the shops jpeg copies of the image we wanted, just so they knew. We decided on Diamond Jacks for a few reasons, and planned our one Saturday in London around being at the shop right when they opened, and staying for as long as it'd take to do two small-ish tattoos. We showed up right at 11 am, but the shop was closed up tight. Undeterred, we did a couple quick laps around the neighborhood (kind of sketchy, if you're easily scared off), and the next time we stopped by, the door was open. Up the stairs we went to talk with the first person we came into contact with. We discussed everything we wanted, and he said he could have someone do it that day, but that he had an appointment already. They had us sit down to fill out some paperwork, and I handed over a high quality hard copy of the image in question. Not long afterwards, they came to get us. We were taken upstairs to have our tattoos done at the same-ish time - and I think they were brothers. We never got their names, which kind of annoys me (they didn't introduce themselves, and I didn't think to ask till it was too late), but they were quick and efficient. My version is on my forearm, and is quite small, compared to my husbands (which is on his calf). They went through the whole speech about care and placement and all that, and my guy seemed a bit shocked when I told him that this is my fourth tattoo. I think he may have thought I was fibbing, but I was more than willing to bust out two of the three, at least, to prove it to him. At any rate, he quickly placed the stencil and got me set up, and before I knew it, he was going to town with the needle. It was quick and painless - for both of us - and we were in and out before the hour was up. It was kind of pricey for two small-ish tattoos, but I can't begrudge them that. Overall I'm happy with my tattoo. It looks how I want it to look, and it's not nearly as in-your-face as I was afraid it'd be (all my other tattoos are bright and colorful and cheery, whereas this one is all black). I'm glad we went, and I'm glad we have this permanent reminder of our epic European vacation.

After walking in with just a photo of what I wanted I talked to Kayne, who had a cancellation, and he said he could fit me in that day! It was awesome I came back in an hour to see the sketch he drawn up and it was more than I hoped for. This place is seriously special, while I was getting tattooed other artists were working and they all were so nice to talk to. The staff are chilled out, approachable and always willing to spend time with their customers and go over your options to help you get what you want. The studio itself is spacious, an extensive range of jewellery to look at for any type of piercing you could imagine and a whole load of tattoos to gawp at while you wait to be called in. I was in a rush to get my tattoo because I was only going to be in London for a couple more days. I reached out to them via WhatsApp because my phone wouldn't allow me to call phone numbers outside of the US. They responded very quickly and provided me with the next open slot that day. I came in at 2pm, explained what I wanted, and was on the table at 2:30pm after we figured out the sizing and color. My tattoo was small but filled with color, and I was charged just 100 pounds.
