Their prices are very reasonable, so maybe this is why - nowhere else in the West End have I found a cheaper deal than their 4 items drycleaned for a tenner - which includes leather and suade items, and either one dress or jacket per batch. Silk is included too - which is great when you can pay huge amounts at other drycleaners to keep your delicate items in shape (oo-er). The staff were pretty intense- to the point that I wondered if the chap who spoke to me was high on more than just life, but he was friendly and accomodating none-the-less, and very forceful in sharing the box of sweets on the counter. I had my 8 items worth of clothes back in three days, and they were perfectly clean and unstained. Although do smell a liiiittle bit like a new car... hence the 4 stars rather than 5.

We had some A0 posters that we wanted to have laminated in time for the exhibition. My task was to find somewhere that could do it for us quickly and cheaply. Now, I didn't know this before - but apparently it's very hard to get A0 sized paper laminated. I called about 5 places and was told by all of them that the machines they used to laminate wasn't big enough to accommodate A0. My search continued. Then I called Servicepoint. Located on Sauchiehall Street, just by the Kelvingrove exit of the M8 - they're open from 7am until 11pm. Not only were they able to laminate my A0 posters (they use a special machine apparently) it also cost me only £11 per poster. And do you want to know the best bit? Because they're open from 7am till 11pm; I dropped the poster off at about 5.30pm on my way home from work, and then picked them up at 9am the next morning - no waiting time at all involved. Servicepoint also offer all types of printing, copying, finishing services, photo enlargements and design exhibition stands. In other words, anything you could ever want from a copy and print shop.

Initial contact and comms was awesome and prompt, they even offered to show me the first tee to see I was happy with it. Unfortunately this is where it all went a bit strange... The sample was brought to me and initially I thought it was okay but something was bothering me about the print, after being left with it for a while I noticed the print was all wonky with a slant to it and both back print and front were not the size I asked for. I contacted them and voiced my concerns and I got a reply saying if I'm not happy they won't do business with me!!? I've yet to find a decent screen printer in Glasgow and am forced to go down South at the moment which is sad.

A tremendous shop for a tremendous cause, the Panopticon charity shop exists to pull funds for the…read moreold Panopticon theatre in Glasgow to be restored. Full of curiosities, oddities and rarities, the Panopticon shop is a must see for lovers of vintage fashion, and a great pit stop if you're looking for a retro bargain. Expect to see anything from gramaphones, WW2 gas masks, old dusty books and vintage postcards in here. The staff have made a fantastic effort to turn the back of the shop into a vintage treasure trove, with scores of second hand clothes being displayed from endless rails. There are some real finds to be grabbed in here and at times it feels more like a museum than a shop - the items have weathered the sands of time well! Most importantly of all, it has seemed to raise the profile of the Panopticon music hall, and has undeniably been part of the intricate and successful plan to bring it back to life. After visiting the grand old building, turn the corner and turn back time by visiting here - a vintage store at half the price!

My stop was a quick one; we popped in for a speedy browse before heading to kick off our southside charity shop crawl at The Corner Shop on Dukes Road. I so wish I could have stayed longer, but the agenda was second-hand shopping in Dennistoun and a busy day loomed ahead. It's a little bit hectic, a little bit tight on space and a little bit thrown-together but it's really the kind of shop which merits a half hour browse, as there's lots to see. So, I only had time for a quick look-see, but that was just enough to have me excited for my next visit, and a proper browse.

I loved crafty stuff and it sold some pretty cool toys too, like the Anne Geddes Babies i used to collect. It sits apart from the main cluster of shops and the shopping centre, on the way down to the big Asda. This place is an Aladdin's Cave of stationery. Need an HB pencil? Come here. A pink Filofax with kittens on it? Second shelf on the left madam. Biro that transforms into a deckchair? Yup, you'll find one here. But be warned , you'll pay for it! It really isn't cheap, so if you only need the basics i would suggest trying somewhere else first. However if you are a crafty connoisseur, or you're looking for something very specific, Ink Spot is the place for you! (Disclaimer: A transforming deckchair Biro does not yet exist. I made that bit up. So you may get a funny look if you ask for one here.)

Anyway, this place has so many cool art supplies that even the most non-artistic, non-creative person in the world will be compelled to purchase some funky craft paper or some random modelling clay or engineering grade pencil. School projects and Brownie badge work has been aided with supplies from here and I can never resist popping in when I have a minute and I am nearby. They have, in the past few years, got a range of fancy dress costumes as well - so they are branching out somewhat from merely traditional stationery supplies. I don't know if that is a direction I am really loving, but in this economy, anything that helps local independent businesses is fine by me. This place is NOT cheap though and is its main failing. I would seriously doubt if art students would actually buy their supplies from here, If the prices were a little bit lower and the staff didn't look at you as if you were about to shop lift then I would love it even more. It is definitely a stationers as opposed to a full on specialist art store I reckon. As an art shop for true artists (although clearly I am not, and am just surmising, I would definitely give it a 3. As a place to find cool knick knacks, gifts and pens with a good motion (see told you I was obsessed!) then possibly a 4. On the whole it is a pretty shop with lots of lovely goodies and some luxurious stationery. With slightly lower prices this would be a 4 overall, bit as it stands a solid 3!

Same day service costs a few pounds extra. Being a minuscule five foot two and a half inches (that extra half inch is very important) I pretty much need to get all my trousers taken up unless I got them from the "petite" otherwise known as "short arse" section of clothing stores. Since using Skint, I have become something of an tailor addict, getting dresses nipped at the back and tucked at the waist all over the place. It is amazing the difference a slight alteration can make. Bonus points for little bowl of sweets on the counter.

Recommended to me by a place in Merchant City that I used to get my suits from, Skint has been my…read morego-to place for alternations. Hidden away on Union Street, it isn't the easiest of places to find, but it has a fantastic reputation, and the work they've done for me has always been to a great standard and a reasonable price. In terms of time they are pretty quick, and I think you can pay a little extra if you want it same day (not sure on this though!). I usually get trousers and jeans taken up, but I have had some significant alterations done to some expensive suits and they have done really good work on them. Again, I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think they might be cash only - the cost is usually under £10, so it isn't a huge deal. There are always sweeties at the till, which is a huge bonus!

I needed some challenging printing done recently (the props for Yelp's Gallery of Glasgow…read morephotobooth!), and was struggling to get it done somewhere that wasn't too expensive. I was recommended to Hobs via twitter, and was overjoyed that they actually replied to my enquiry email within 24 hours (so many printing places never even bothered to reply!). They were able to give me guidance on the best material to use for printing that would be durable but could also be cut to size. They gave me a quote for them cutting it for me, but in the end I opted to do it myself. They gave me advice about cutting as well as offcuts to practice on, plus a couple of blades. How's that for customer service? The board were printed in less than 24 hours and I collected them from the premises on Woodlands Road. Again, helpful service and the board were nicely wrapped up in bubble wrap so I didn't have to stress about getting them wet. The boards ended up not being too hard to cut, and were perfectly suited to photobooth props. Thanks for the great service & advice!

They also offer a service in personalised cards and calendars where you can choose pictures of your loved ones to look at all year round. At Christmas time, I took a really cute picture of my cat in a Santa hat and was tempted to get them made into Christmas cards, unfortunately, In the rush up to the festive season, I totally forgot but I think I'll use this service this year.
