I first went here 14 yrs ago after moving to Haverhill and hearing the praises sung and I'll admit at that time and up until Covid it was a very pleasant,albeit a little expensive for an ice cream, outing but since Covid this establishment has gone down hill going from a little expensive to ridiculously expensive and the help has gone from pleasant to uncaring and rude so after years of going here I'll be looking for another place to get an ice cream read more

It's always busy at Carters Ice Cream because it's so good! I always get chocolate marshmallow and am never disappointed. The service is quick and the sizes are incredible. Plenty of benches to sit on or you can do like me and take it home to eat. Of course you will need a cup to do that. Always a fun place to go. read more

Went to Carter's on Friday afternoon @ 1:15 pm for a half gallon of choc chip ice cream. We were told that they did not have any half gallons made up. My husband asked if we could have 2 quarts for the same price and her answer was "absolutely not". Our thought was that this girl did not know it equaled the same amount of ice cream. Definitely not "customer friendly" which is very surprising for Carter's. Disappointed this happened because we are regular customers of many years and love the ice cream. read more

Can't believe I spent the summer at the cross-town competitor when I could've been snarfing some Carter's Chocolate Chip (nay, Iceberg) Ice Cream. Worth the side trip if you're in the neighborhood. Worth the trip even if you're not. A shareable "small" ice cream with jimmies and a doable waffle was a $4.75. The pupster's cup with 3 biscuits was $3.00. read more

Ice cream is good, but it is now so overpriced that it's not worth it. It costs $6.75 (pre-tip) for a BABY scoop. The thick frappe is $10.50. If you have a family, you're looking at upwards of $40 for ice cream, and they only accept cash. Used to be great, but I'm disappointed with the repeated cost increases. read more

Don't bother, they no longer offer quality products and are way overpriced! Have visited twice this season since they opened, and both times we were served the most revolting excuse for ice cream ever. Carter's is often packed so that should tell you something, right? I've always enjoyed their ice cream but the lines make me batty. There are a ton of options in Haverhill and you an even find some that don't serve Richardson's. Speaking of which, although the ice cream is their own, the frozen yogurt is from (can you guess?) Richardson's. Carter's is, like many stands, cash only. The ice cream is quite good but don't ask for peanut butter sauce, they don't have it :( Plenty of parking and seating if you can stand the bugs. read more

Oh yes Carter's Ice Cream....the local ice cream joint. The ice cream is delicious and always fresh. All the ice cream is whole made at Carters and the yogurt is purchased from Richardson's Farms. I go at least once a week and the ice cream is consistantly good. Once in a while, you will see the delivery man dropping off the fresh cream, milk, and other in for the ice cream. It's one thing to say that the ice cream is wholemade (because someone obiously made it) but to see the ingredients being brought in for yourself is even better. The Chunky Monkey (hmmm they didn't rip this off from B&j's) is one of my favorites full of large dark choclate chunks and big walnuts in a creamy banana goodness. The coconut ice cream is also very good. While it is not my ice cream of choice, my fiance gets it every week so if you're a coconut nut, this is the choice for you. They also have a new flavor this year which was quite intriguing. It's called Red Raspberry Chocolate Chunk (I think....well...you get the point...it was red and chocolaty). The ice cream was a litte more tart than your average black raspberry but the sweetness of the chocolate chunks balance it out. I would definately get it again. For a local place, it is awesome. If you ever find yourself in Bradford, it is worth the stop. But if you go after dinner be prepared to wait and bring the bug spray. read more

Always liked this place. However, the other day I had pistachio ice cream and it didn't really taste like it should, it tasted weird. It tasted like fruity pebbles cereal. And the ice cream was falling down all over the place. Disappointing. They went down in quality apparently. Too bad. There's always Kimball's I guess (and Friendly's in the supermarket). read more

Very heavy and tasty ice cream...I mean very very heavy. So rich that I almost had to go jogging for hours after eating it. My recommendation is the pumpkin or vanilla, but frozen puddin was...crazy and fun to eat. Be aware of the size. Manned by very friendly HS(?) kids, so be sure to tip them for thier collage fund (read as beer money...what!?) They give you a huge spoon full of tasting, which can fill up quickly. Location offers great packing lot, plus lots of bench and surrounded by tree cover. What elese will you ask for? This is great American way of living. read more

Carter's Ice Cresm is a local Hometown staple. They are a fixture in the area, their service is always prompt and professional. The ice cream is made fresh on the premises. I've been to all of the local ice cream businesses and they are by far the best quality. They also open earlier and close later in the season they almost every other I've cream shop, locally. This is a great treat since getting fresh made ice cream is always a good thing. read more

The best ice cream you can get! The caramel sea salt choco crunch, and the mocha chip (with local coffee) are both out of this world. And the portions are enormous - I always get a kiddie size and it is more than enough. Prices are very reasonable, and the people working there are always great. read more

Carters is practically an institution in Haverhill. I've been going for years and they never disappoint. The lines are insane and they're cash only. The ice cream is their own, but if you get frozen yogurt it will be brought in from Richardson's. I'm not usually a fan of chocolate ice cream, but I love theirs - I'm pretty sure they just flavor it with hershey syrup, which to me is not a bad thing! They have a pretty good selection of flavors too. When you order your ice cream with jimmies, they first put a few scoops (seriously, they load it) on the bottom of the cup, then the ice cream, then they put more jimmies on top. Staff is surprisingly friendly most of the time. They have decent parking but it can be a little crazy getting in and out when it's busy - park away from the front area if you can. There's always a lot of bugs, so you might want to eat inside your car or get it to go. read more

Unfortunately, the ice cream seems to be getting worse. Just not as rich as it once was, and not as flavorful as you would expect from a home made ice cream joint. This ice cream stand has the best maple walnut, Oreo, chunky monkey, and heath crunch I've ever had. They make their own ice cream, so it's super rich! I had the pleasure of meeting Jeremy- the owner. He was working behind the counter right along with the other employees-great guy. They also sell larger portions of your favorite flavors so you can take them home in big buckets! My favorite is this orange creamsicle frappe/smoothie made with orange soda-- it's amazing-- I freeze my large size in between indulgences and it lasts for 3 or 4 days.... So delicious! Carter's has changed their recipe for Coffee ice cream. It now contains coffee grinds and doesn't taste much better than that - very grainy in texture and bitter. I wish they would go back to their original recipe. read more

We took three of the grandchildren to Carter's last week instead of our usual stop at Benson's in West Boxford. It was a good choice for a number of reasons: 1. Much better parking. 2. Better seating area with more room for kids to run around. 3. Prices seemed lower that Benson's. (Husband's comment) 4. Good selection of flavors. 5. Ice cream was DELICIOUS!!!! Caution: If you come at dusk or after dark, bring bug spray. This is true at most other places also. read more

Carter's has been a long time favorite for me. I'm 24 now and can still remember all the summer days and nights biking across town to enjoy the ice cream. There variety has grown and so has the clientele. Don't be intimidated by the long lines the service is always quick and friendly. Great spot to sit back and watch a sunset over the nearby farm. First time coming to Carter's. My SO and I brought his nephew, we all had flavors we loved. The portion sizes were pretty generous - which was a good thing. Today was the opening. Though I am a long time fan, I think the popularity got to their heads. The increase in pricing is ridiculous, almost $1.50 increase in a frappe, that would make it $6.75 for a shake, yes $6.75. I may have bought my first and last for this year. Horrible parking. Lines, price, and cash only are comparable to other seasonal ice cream stands. All of us agree. The mouth feel is odd of the ice cream, possibly over churned. Flavor is just ok. I am 63 and spent the first 50 years of my life around the corner from Carter's Ice Cream. Carter's chocolate chip ice was always my favorite. Ten years ago I moved to NH. When my dad visits he often stops and picks up a half gallon for me- Carter's has the creamiest! My disappointment is that the chocolate chips are just about missing from the chocolate chip ice cream. Basically I am eating vanilla ice cream with a hint of chip.
