We got soooo lucky that Carson Animal Hospital would take our pups. We were traveling with our dogs. We called Carson Animal Hospital and they fit us into their schedule. We were lucky enough to see The vet tech, Brennan and Dr. Marks. They treated us and our dogs as if we were their own patients and not outsiders. The entire staff was wonderful to us. Thanks to this veterinary practice, we were able to get medication for our dogs and head home to Texas. read more

I brought my Six month old cat in for shots & to be spayed. The staff was very nice & professional. The total cost was $780. I found the cost to be exorbitant and although the staff was nice, it left me feeling like getting a bad deal at a car dealership. You can tell the staff is trained in sales to maximize the cost. I just wanted 2 simple things & wound up paying a house note. They are excellent but you will pay. read more

This is one of the best veterinary clinics in Lafayette. They are compassionate and caring when taking care of your pets and they are also very caring towards the pets parents. They take the time to explain everything that's going on with your pets and they also help you with lowering the payments if your pets have an emergency and you can't afford their procedures. read more

I can tell that he is not only knowledgeable but that he loves what he does and that is much appreciated when it comes to my babies who can't express themselves when something is wrong. I take my two Westies to Dr. Young at Carson Vet. From the minute you walk in the staff is simply so kind and helpful. The Vet Tech's are friendly, caring and oh so gentle. Dr. Young treats my dogs and I can't possibly rave about her enough. Dr. Young is about as top-notch as it gets. She's up to date on the latest meds and treatments and never fails to give a thorough all over exam even if you're there for a specific ailment. She is so kind and gentle with my dogs and is very sensitive to the expense of treatments and tries her best to offer economic options. I have a very anxious cat and they handled her better than any other vet I've taken her to. I even took a foster cat to them and Dr. Carson sat on the floor with her to make her comfortable. I have major experience dealing with veterinary clinics but this is my first experience with a feral cat transitioning to a pet. Dr. Young and the technician handled what I was fearing to be a horrible mess with such incredible ease. I have only been to a vet once since moving to Louisiana and it was not pleasant even though it was a really easy going cat. Was quoted $60-$70 each for two dog visits including the vaccine shots for one of my dogs, and ended up being billed $289. Im really upset because I was told two different prices and was quoted thinking I was going to pay around $120, but ended up paying close to $300. If I would have been told up front, I wouldn't have come here because I could have taken them to a different vet for a lot less. I'm really upset over the dishonesty and not being up front beforehand. read more

I've been seeing this vet for months now. I wish I would have gone sooner. We've brought our 13 yr old dachshund in on several occasions. Both Carson Sr. and Jr. are GREAT vets that CARE. On all 4-5 occasions, we were treated with respect and it was very evident that both doctors and their nursing staff CARE about their jobs and taking care of their clients and their animals. In the most recent case, Our dachshund came back from boarding at a vet that I was skeptical about. We were going on vacation with family who need boarding for their dogs so we took all animals to that vet for boarding. After a week of boarding, he came back with what we now know is a bacterial and fungal infection. We were given meds, there were tests taken and there was a diagnosis given that was accurate. A week later (today), the DOCTOR called back personally to inform us that the dog's samples from testing were sent off to a third party who confirmed the diagnosis. My wife was extremely impressed with this. We've been to 3 vets prior to Carson and were not satisfied. Carson is more than satisfactory; both doctors are professional. It's hard to describe their treatment of animals- it's better to just say that they care and will do whatever necessary to help your animal- WITHOUT charging you unfairly. Financially, there pricing for care is VERY competitive and extremely fair. Thanks, Doctors and Nurses at Carson! EDIT: After speaking with the boarding vet, their indifference toward our plight was very evident. We had no interest in taking our animal back over there. Carson rescued Murphy again. read more

The doctors and staff at Carson are amazing. They are incredibly in tune, not just with pets but their owners, too. I have always had a cat or two (or more) in my life. When I recently moved here, my best friend recommended Carson to me. I am so grateful she did. Four months ago I came home from work to find that my favorite (shhh!) broke his paw, assumably in the cheval mirror I found toppled over. Carson did everything they could to help get that paw to heal, but my kitty is ridiculously curious and entirely too rambunctious and kept re-injuring it. He's just now out of surgery for the third time. This time, we are happily welcoming him back home as a tripod. Throughout this whole ordeal, Dr. Carson and his son and their staff have been so patient, accommodating, resourceful, and kind. read more

I first began going to Carson's in 2014. I had a sick guinea pig and couldn't find a vet that dealt with small animals until I discovered Dr. Schmidt. He ended up having to file Neeko's (our guinea pig) teeth down but unfortunately didn't have the equipment to file the back molars that was preventing him from eating properly and suggested we take him to LSU. We did, but even afterwards, Neeko still didn't want to eat. After a few days of syringe feeding, I made another appointment with Dr. Schmidt but unfortunately we loss him on the way to the vet. I was desperately trying to suppress my tears and he said "I'm sorry, he's gone but you literally did everything you could. Not many would have tried so hard to save a guinea pig." Just hearing that helped me immensely. More than I think he knew. At the time, I was still taking my then 10 yr old Bichon Frise to Banfield that's located in Petsmart. Later that year, Sammy(my Bichon Frise) got incredibly ill overnight. We had taken him on a hiking trail that weekend and a single tick had embedded itself between his paw pads unbeknownst to us. Although I had checked him over and didn't discover anything, the signs were pointing to a tick related illness. I asked if they could give him something and to my surprise the vet said ""Yeah, but we don't really have ticks down here" Good gracious, it took all I had not to ask if she was joking. Long story short, I finally found the tick and only then did they give him the proper medicine. I vowed that I was never taking him back to someone so ignorant and began taking him to Carson's. Sometimes I would see Dr. Schmidt, other times Dr. Jim Jr. and once Dr. Lemaire when she was still there. All of them were so phenomenal that I trusted my sweet boy with either one of them. I would be worried out of my mind through dental scalings where he had to be put under. I was one of those dog moms that called every couple hours to check on him and every single person there was always so patient and understanding. They wouldn't just say "Oh he's fine" Instead, they would normally put Dr. Carson on the phone to tell me personally how he was. In March of this year, I had to make the gut wrenching decision that all pet owners must sometimes make after a terrible bout of continuous seizures from what we suspect was a brain tumor. All day, I clang to hope that he would be okay and Dr. Carson hoped for it right along with me. We waited, and hoped but the damage from the seizures had taken a terrible toll on his 14 yr old body. When the time came to make the decision, he walked over as my husband and I held Sammy in our laps saying our goodbyes and sat on the floor in front of us. Alarmed, my husband went to stand up to offer his chair and Dr. Carson waved him off saying "No, no sit! The floor is fine!" His lighthearted joke made us smile for a moment. He looked at me, remaining quiet. Never suggesting what I should or shouldn't do until I told him that I thought it was time. He nodded in agreement and explained that he probably had brain damage due to how high his temperature rose during the seizures. As incredibly painful as it was, I am so grateful to Dr. Jim Carson Jr. and for the entire staff. They cried with us, made sure we had tissues, hugged us and they genuinely felt for us. It's something I will forever deeply appreciate through that awful time. Months later, and I'm still grieving but luckily, not over whether or not enough was done. I miss him terribly, but I know we did everything we could. That alone takes a huge weight off of the grieving process. Fortunately, we still have Sammy's feline brother, Sebastian who also goes to Carson's and we will forever take he and our future furbabies there. This used to be a great clinic but has since succumbed to basic money grubbing. I brought my Yorkie mix stray in to have spayed after her first heat cycle. we waited the two weeks after she completed to have her spayed, recommended by Carson's staff. We were called the morning of the procedure and informed that the pup had a baby molar still in place and wanted our okay to pull it while she was under, we gave the go ahead...2 birds one stone kind of thing. When we got the bill they charged $75 extra! for the tooth plus an added charge of $50 because they claimed she was in estrus! (she was not ) $380 total plus another $100 pre op visit the week before. after checking around, the tooth extraction averages $30 and the spaying $150 elsewhere.They made it sound like the tooth was a big thing but how many adult dogs still have their baby teeth! I understand Dr. Carson is retiring and the business is passing to different hands with different ideas and that is unfortunate because Dr. Carson would never treat loyal customers in such a fashion. I know because I had been that loyal customer for 20 years. We will miss you Dr. Carson. read more
