We were there to enjoy one of the speakers in their summer series, Christina Thomas, "Songbird: The Story of the Paiute People" and she was great as she shared the history of the Paiute people in the Great Basin. The Dangberg Ranch is located on HWY 88 just south of its intersection with HWY 395, and you'll head west onto a dirt road for about a mile to get to the ranch, and the road is a bit rough, and on the day we went, muddy from recent rain. We ended up choosing Tahoe Experience because Bret was so positive, patient, and offered great prices. On the boat, we had Chris, a freelance captain who works with Bret. Chris was a joy to be around. He was super relaxed, funny, and kind. He took great care of us during our boat rental. The ride to Emerald Drive took about 30 minutes, and we spent an hour there before heading back. Sadly, I got hurt while paddleboarding. It was all my fault since it was my first time. Chris helped me out of the water, took care of my scrapes, and drove us back to shore safely. He even gave us the closest emergency hospital details and offered to refund half of the agreed amount. We were so grateful for his help and really appreciated his kindness. Bret texted me to check in and say he was sorry about what happened. Bret and Chris are truly amazing people to work with. Even though I was at fault, we had a blast meeting Chris and having him as our captain. I definitely plan to reach out to Bret again when I visit Tahoe in the future and would highly recommend his services to anyone who comes to the area.

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, I contacted Viator and explained the above and I was in formed I was not booked for a tour. I asked if I could purchase a ticket for the tour and was told not was sold out and the next tour available was Tuesday, September 30, 2025. I checked my Viator account and it did not show a pending or cancelled tour on September 16, 2025. I booked another tour for 199.00 and took that tour. I received a call for the tour driver and said they were waiting for me. I told him what happened and that I was told I did not have a ticket. I checked my credit card statement and was shocked that I was charged 70.00 for the tour when I was I informed I did not have a seat. I filed a request with Viator and was told the refund was declined by Discover Lake Tahoe Tours. Discover Lake Tahoe Tours uses Viator as a third party administrator and if their administrator gives out incorrect information it is not the clients fault but the company(ies). I will not use Viator or Discover Tours again.

The night before they told me my pick up was at Lake Tahoe resort. Lake Tahoe vacation resort is right on ski run by the marina so there's plenty of parking options and is specifically why I chose it. Lake Tahoe Resort does not allow you to park there unless you are staying at the resort . It is right next to Harrah's. It was the celebrity golf tournament so I had to pay $50 just to park my car for an $80 day trip to Virginia city. The tour bus was completely filled with 23 people not the eight person max that I was expecting. I had take away 2 stars for these reasons. Virginia city is cool for the day. If you have a car just take yourself. Take some old time photos, get a beer a bucket of blood, and get a souvenir Christmas ornament at Christmas forever. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. I went to The palace because the guide recommended it. Cheap burgers but nothing special. I'd suggest trying another place.

After we called around all other businesses, such as this, we realized that Lake Tahoe boat rides was the most professional and upfront about their prices. Many companies didn't let me know that fuel and captain fees would be tacked on at after the ride as well as a certain gratuity. Sneaky! Once we arrived at Lake Tahoe, Boat Rides, Lindsay, the owner and everyone else was super friendly and helpful. They have a store with food/drinks, towels etc.. but they tell you in advance that you can pick it up elsewhere. They helped us carry our bags over to the perfectly clean and well maintained boat complete with our own captain who was incredible!!!!! Ask for Steve-O!!!! I do believe no matter who you get as a captain that you will have an amazing experience as we did. Steve-O was friendly and great with our 4 1/2 year-old. He provided just the right amount of history and information as we rode along and also took us to less touristy places that were also beautiful and so worth seeing. We cannot wait to come back and see Lake Tahoe boat rides next summer, and we will definitely be asking for Steve-O.

We had booked a private tour for his birthday to meet the rescue animals who call this beautiful place home. Yasmin met us at the entrance and, after swapping shoes for some solid boots, gave us a very honest, very real, and very important rundown of industrial agriculture. Now, I have to add, neither of us are vegan or even vegetarian, but Yasmin proved to be an actively non judgmental, compassionate host. She walked us through the grounds, addressing each animal by name, and was full of knowledge and insight! After the initial meet and greet, we were off! We hiked across the beautiful grounds and met tons of sheep (Jet loved my partner!) goats, and pigs; all of the animals roam freely, coming and going as they please. It was actually delightful how so many of the animals came up to say hi and hang out out of their own volition! We brought some grapes for the chickens and they LOVED them! But oh my god, the turkeys. Wow, just, two little friendly, fluffy orbs that floated around our party showing off while Yasmin gave us an informed and empathetic story about them. She did that at every habitat; letting us in, introducing us (by name!) to the boldest of the bunch, and explaining how they ended up at Animal Place. It was an entirely wonderful, enlightening experience. Also, fyi, turkeys are so soft. I cannot recommend this organization enough. 10/10, please give Conrad an extra treat for me!
