There are no quotas of EEC vs non EEC tickets, but large tour groups purchase morning tickets days if not weeks in advance, and will often have only EEC tickets left for customers, in addition to adding a big surcharge.
Took Uber for around $40 from central Paris to the Palace entrance, with the $40 including tip built in. Could have taken the subway and then transferred to train for 6 euros to reach this place in the distant suburbs of Paris.

We were set to for 230pm entry tickets, but we showed up at the entrance at 9am, and they waved us through, as there was no line.

Walked along the expansive grounds surrounding the palace where it got quite hot despite it being only April.
Spent half a day here, before the crowds got overwhelming, and then walked 30 minutes from the palace through the grounds to the railway station to take the train back to Paris 15 miles away.
Viking river tours was charging $495 per person for the tour, but they arranged everything, and no standing in line. Cost the two of us $40 for Uber, $84 for tickets, and $8 for the metro.
