Where else would an American living in Spain get all the spicy sauces??? I need my American…read moremustard, ranch dressing, hot wing sauce, Dr Pepper, etc. Come Christmas time when I do some baking, I came here for cream of tarter and other bits you can't find in the Spanish supermarkets. There's also a few bits in there for the Brits. Yea, they have bisto. For any American living in Malaga, this store is a part of the rounds you have to do. Go to the food market, supermarket, american shop. Maybe one day they'll get themselves a Walmart, but till then that's the order and all day Saturday mornings. he he. Keeps me fit!

As they say, when in Rome,...... Sadly, my Spanish isn't up to much and certainly not enough a to sustain a conversation about all the different of hams and cheeses on offer. So, I resorted to looking at the meat on the legs and at the prices to gauge quality I eventually settled on a basic Iberico ham and a more expensive Jabugo ham. Now, slicing ham off a whole leg does take practice and I've seen some novices really struggle. So, it was nice to see an expert at work as she expertly shaved off 100g of each ham The prices were much lower than in London but that's to be expected for Iberico ham in Spain, I suppose Both hams were meaty and dense with flavour but I preferred the more expensive Jabugo, which was moister and tempered some of the saltiness with the more subtle umami flavour

Spend a couple of hours with the locals, just don't get in their way, exploring all the fabulous food the south of Spain has to offer. The Ratatouille in me is always in cheese heaven. SO many varieties of goat, sheep and cows cheese to choose from. I will never get through all of them. The incredible fresh seafood, many still gasping from their very recent plucking from their watery home. Vegetables so unbelievably fresh and beautiful. Spices. They were my main purchase this day. Why bother to fix true Spanish dishes unless you have a great selection of the appropriate spices. Spain, all the devine jamòn. Legs of various aging just waiting to be sliced just for you. Fresh meats that will have your head spinning- I don't know what to cook first. When traveling always check out the local market. Many stalls will offer samples to try. Other have items that can be prepared to travel home with. Some purchases just may not make it out the door they are so delicious. One last tip- go early in the morning 7-8 am for the best selection. And most markets close around 2 pm.
