And to be honest this park with it's well maintained grounds, trails, multiple ball fields, volleyball pits, facilities, open space and overall charm was one of the deciding factors as why we now call Marcellus our home. Over the years we've enjoyed multiple events from Ole Home Days, to 4th of July as well as family picnics and parties under the pavilions to simple walks along the trails to family gatherings at the play grounds and so on. The trails were gravel which makes them easy to walk. I saw many fisherman near the creek side. They had posted open fishing starting April 1st until I think October. Recently spent a day here. It is a love place that takes accessibility measures seriously. While…read morenot absolutely perfect, I can tell the path has been constructed so folks using electric wheelchairs can navigate with relative ease. This is a perfect spot for a picnic lunch with a date or a family. The geese and ducks are fun to watch, and kids may get a kick out of feeding them. There is a small building where you can purchase snack foods and make a donation to feed the birds and walk around. I am looking forward to warm Sunday's fishing. Also, they have children's fishing on Saturday. The views are great and is at the foot of a tree covered hill. Perfect for reading a book.

Cooler among the trees still warm and periodic deer flies to annoy but a quiet fresh air walk we truly enjoyed. The return half of the trail follows the lake with several nice lookout spots some with benches and a nice breeze as well. About an hour later we emerged cleaned our shoes at the station to prevent transference of invasive species. Had we seen this before entering would have done the same before entering. We have been going here for many years and always enjoy.

Had a wonderful chat with volunteer Bob at the visitor center before heading out on the 3+ mile…read morenature drive. He gave us some tips about where we might see certain types of birds and he was absolutely spot on!! We spotted a pair of bald eagles in the tree line and after a 5 minute wait or so, they treated us to a flight right over the car to soar over the water on the other side of the drive. It is absolutely amazing that this wonderful resource is free to enjoy. The visitors center is accessible to those using mobility equipment and the drive is a wonderful way to enjoy the wildlife without a hike.

We love going to Ryder Park, which is connected to the Erie Canal Trail. It is located right next…read moreto the Town of Dewitt building. There is a fun playground with lots of swings and slides. There is a large pavilion with attached bathrooms and electricity, and there is another smaller pavilion there as well. There's also a nice trail around a cute pond and a steam that runs beyond it, and you are permitted to fish there. It's a great place to visit to ply and hang out, and is also able to be reserved for parties or events.

Lots of folks stop here throughout the day for meal breaks. It's peaceful and convenient. A fish fry restaurant, Mr. Mike's, shares the parking lot, and Shannon's Hot Dogs food truck is usually here for lunch on weekdays, in case you haven't brought any food with you. There is also a campground, North Bay, farther down the shoreline behind the bowling alley. The lake itself is not really useable. It's not safe for swimming due to the severe algae bloom in the water. But you can still walk out on the pier and stare at the lake. So that's nice too!
