I was in dire need of some updated professional headshots. Photos from past family vacations and old employers (oh hey, Yelp!) just weren't cutting it anymore. Carolyn and Geoff photographed our wedding in April 2014. I honestly cannot recommend their business enough. We initially spoke with them in summer/fall 2013 on the very positive recommendation of a friend (tip: they only shoot a set number of major events a year, which is awesome for their work/life balance but also means they book up fast. Talk to them early!) We already knew we liked their photography style from our friend-slash stalking carolynscottphotography.com. We had some initial emails back and forth to get to know them and understand if we fit as a client/photographer, and then we met in person. C&G have an awesome easy going conversational vibe, that makes it really easy to feel comfortable around them. The first time we met them I was getting really angry - until I realized that we had overstayed our one hour meet-and-greet by about 3 hours, and I wasn't angry, just really really hungry from chatting through the dinner hours. If you aren't using a wedding planner (we didn't) and don't know all those small details, never fear because Carolyn and Geoff are on top of it. They knew how we should time certain parts of the evening to get the right photographs in the right light, reminded us to make a list of who we wanted family photographs with, and got all the must-have shots of the evening. We were really nervous about having vendors that expected us to know all the details, but having never been married before we were really lost! I felt like we relied on Carolyn and Geoff a lot for these things (even emailing them for advice on how other people did stuff) and they were always super nice about it. When we did our couples-only photos after our ceremony, we felt SO comfortable with both of them. Maybe it's because they are really open, or they are a husband wife team, or because they have a truly comical height difference. Whatever it is, I was surprised at how at-ease I was, which combined with their skills, resulted in some great photos. The rest of the photos throughout the evening turned out fantastic, and Carolyn and Geoff did a great job capturing all the important moments and people throughout the evening. It's taken me nearly two months to write this review. I'm a perfectionist, and nothing I came up with seemed to do Carolyn justice. It got to the point where I wondered, "Can I just write 'They were awesome. You should hire them immediately.'?" It's easy to find a photographer. We live in an era where good cameras and lenses are surprisingly affordable. Entire social networks are based around sharing photos with people. So it's easy to find a photographer these days. What's hard is finding a GREAT photographer. Carolyn is a great photographer. Not because of the excellent high end equipment she uses, but because of her talent and impeccable eye for the shot. The post processing created just the right tone we were looking for. Her husband Geoff (pronounced like "Jeff") is also an awesome complement to the team. My wife and I eloped, so it was essential to us that we got a photographer we felt we could trust. We've never regretted sharing our day with Carolyn and Geoff (thanks for signing the marriage license as our witnesses, guys!). The shots they took were amazing, and they kept pulling great ideas from the environment that we never would have seen (they took photos of us in front of an industrial door, and it look awesome). And it's not just the day-of where they're great. We chatted with them over email for (not kidding) almost TWO years before we got married. Even though our wedding plans morphed significantly over that time, the photographer never did because we knew we had to work with Carolyn. They took every step of the process seriously, with awesome and quirky attention to detail. Skyping with Carolyn and Geoff for our pre-wedding consultation was a TON of fun. They're super personable and funny, and did a great job of setting us at ease. They explained what would happen, took our concerns and questions into account, and worked out a final plan with us. On our wedding day they kept us laughing and smiling the whole time, to the point where our cheeks were a little sore the next day. They have an awesome sense of humor, and are really interesting people to talk to when they're not joking around with you. They're the type of people you'd love to just grab dinner with. Carolyn also has a very endearing run when she has a camera latched to each hip. The post-processing done on our photos was awesome. It has a great modern vibe without feeling like Instagram. The website is super cool and easy to use, so we were able to get photos on Facebook within ten days. The packaging they send your full resolution photos on is also thoughtfully put together. I don't want to spoil what they include with the package, but you'll be super excited to get your USB drive full of photos in the mail! I could spend pages saying great things about Carolyn and Geoff, but I'll sum it up like this: They're awesome. Carolyn is awesome. They take awesome photos, and do an awesome job editing them. My wife and I simply couldn't be happier that we chose Carolyn and Geoff as our photographers for both our wedding and an engagement shoot. They are both lovely humans and talented photographers. Somehow they seem incredibly professional while being down-to-earth--taking photos before your wedding is a strangely intimate moment, but with Carolyn and Geoff photographing we felt at ease. They both seem to really have an eye for what qualities make you you, and what qualities make your friends your friends, and they are able to capture that in photograph form. Looking through our wedding photos is a true delight: they caught both our favorite moments and moments that we missed, and going through the photos is kind of like a mini-version of reliving our wedding day. We would absolutely hire them again for any photo shoots we would want in the future--no question! On a purely logistical front: Carolyn is very timely at replying to emails, and we got our photos for both shoots about a month after the photos were taken. Considering our wedding was in peak wedding season, this doesn't seem like a small feat! And on a last note: I feel a little sad at having to write this, but in 2016, as a same sex couple, my wife and I encountered some pretty unpleasant vendors while planning our wedding. Carolyn and Geoff are not in that camp. Not even a little. They didn't ask weird and/or invasive questions, try to force us into roles that didn't feel authentic to us, nor did they sabotage the product (all three of these things happened with other vendors that we hired or considered hiring). They simply treated us as any other couple. So if any queer/same-sex couples are eyeing Carolyn & Geoff's website and wondering if their non-discrimination clause is sincere, it is. I can't help but reiterate how incredible Carolyn and Geoff's work is. They photographed our wedding this summer, and did an amazing job! Carolyn has a creative, artistic eye that still impresses me every time I look at our pictures. Our first photo session with Carolyn was for engagement photos. This allowed us to get to know both Carolyn and Geoff, and how they would want us to pose/act as she is taking pictures. Though I was tentative to do this myself, I recommend CSP's future customers to follow every direction that Carolyn gives when taking posed shots: where to stand, how to stand, how to smile, where to put your hands, where to look, etc. She had a ton of excellent ideas for posed photos, but she also took many wonderful candid shots, too. We are so thankful to have found CSP, because it is highly unlikely that any other photographer would have done as good a job for us. The two were relaxed, personable and so easy to get along with. Where do I even begin?! I could start from the very beginning when Carolyn and I first met over 8 years ago as two random people--one gal starting her career in photography, and one gal who sat for her in her attempt to find new and inventive ways to fill her time between bartending shifts--but I will fast forward to the moment Carolyn and Geoff enthusiastically agreed to shoot our wedding in Positano, Italy :) Anyone who knows Carolyn knows "enthusiastic" is not a big enough word to describe her passion for what she does. Between her and her talented husband Geoff...how can I explain this...they bring the kind of raw excitement you experience when you see your food coming at a restaurant. You are super excited, relieved, and a little bit nervous at the anticipation of what's to come. Our photos were beautiful not only because they are so talented but because they were comfortable in our excitement, captured that excitement, and even shared in it! Carolyn and Geoff were flexible, patient, and extremely--and outwardly--positive, especially when bad weather loomed the entire trip. You would think they side job as therapists the way they handle family members, day-of mishaps, and generally just...different personalities. To add on top of routine wedding challenges: language barriers, one authoritative priest, jet lag, and thousands of dollars of camera equipment bussed, flown, and trained (is that even a word?) from multiple countries and cities. Oh and the steps. LOTS of steps. I'm pretty sure they are actually part superhero. That's my bridal opinion, but if you see other reviews, I am not the only one who thinks that! Every wedding is different, and no doubt different clients will want different things. Andrew and I wanted what we considered to be two new friends to join us not only capture our wedding and trip but also be part of the celebration. As professional as they are, they fit right in as if we had known them forever, and that made all the difference! So, if you are here reading this for a review of sorts, I cannot say I will "rate" another human being, but here is my honest opinion of Carolyn and Geoff: They are 100% dedicated, honest, talented, professional, kind, supportive, responsive, artistic, approachable, and undeniably, unforgettably amazing. For the past two hours, I have been pouring over the online album. I laughed, I cried, I laughed while I cried... There are no words for how incredible and touching these photographs are! We feel so lucky to have Carolyn & Geoff as our wedding photographers. During the wedding planning process, we had researched local photographers, but didn't venture too far out of our home state. Carolyn and Geoff were recommended to us by a friend and once looking at their portfolio, we feel in love with their style (& fun sense of humor!). Since we were in different states, my husband and I were able to "meet" Carolyn & Geoff on Skype. Meeting them for the first time was like talking with old friends. They took the time to explain everything and answered all of our questions. We booked them shortly after and the rest of the process was smooth sailing. Carolyn was SO responsive during the entire time leading up to the wedding. Our wedding was in Baltimore and we had a bit of a complicated timeline with limited time allotted. Carolyn and Geoff weren't familiar with the areas we were taking pictures at, but they took the time to Google Map the area to gain familiarity, figure out the time in between shooting locations (down to the minute!), and develop a detailed timeline in order to accomplish everything we were hoping for. On the day of, Carolyn and Geoff were rock-stars! We kept to the timeline, were able to get pictures before the ceremony at two different spots, after the ceremony at two different spots, and were done in time to enjoy part of our cocktail hour. Mission accomplished. :) We loved having them as part of our special day and all of the wedding party thought they were excellent (& super fun as well).
