Reading the ED reviews confirms these are not isolated incidents/occurrences. As a health…read moreprofessional, I encouraged my mother to seek medical advice after noticing some significant symptoms needing to be addressed. She traveled via ambulance because she was not ambulatory (not able to walk). She requested an alternative hospital, however EMS always makes an excuse to only go to Scotland Memorial whether an emergency or not. When the ER "doc" approached my mother, he chastised her for coming to "his ER" stating and I quote "don't you ever come back to my ER complaining of weakness." This man had already made plans to send her home without any work up to rule out anything. My mother had health insurance and deserved to be treated better than that! He didn't know I was on speaker and heard how terrible he spoke to her. In a professional tone, I made him aware, she received guidance from me, a health care professional, to seek medical attention not only for generalized weakness but another significant symptom warranting medical evaluation. Next thing you know he goes from threatening to send her home to admitting her to the hospital for a few days. Unfortunately my mother was forced by EMS to seek medical attention again with this same facility awhile after this incident but this time she was given morphine for her symptoms and sent home where she would later die. He made it clear before.....he did not want her in his ER. Can you imagine having health coverage but feeling intimidated by the "doc in the ER" who told you to stay out of his ER despite EMTALA Laws???? People of color, go to your primary care provider, stay on top of your health and STAY OUT OF SCOTLAND MEMORIAL. We had too many unpleasant encounters TO EVEN MENTION IN THIS REVIEW BOX but apparently in the same boat with so many others. Scotland Memorial Hospital, now Scotland Healthcare System (likely because of the negative reviews) was never a first choice but when you live in a rural area where social determinants of health and institutional racism affect the care you receive or dare I say the lack of care an innocent human being can easily become a statistic. Don't be surprised if the ER "doc", coroner, head of the hospital, and lawyers are golf buddies....you don't stand a chance. Find a provider that looks like you and stay out of this ratchet ER. They care nothing about people of color and will send you to your grave without flinching.

Having worked in several similar institutions in the past, I have to say that the speed and quality…read moreof care today, January 22nd, has been phenomenal. The staff has been friendly and efficient as well as working as a well-coordinated team/unit. I was here only 10-15 minutes prior to being registered, urine/blood/fecal/and blood pressure taken as well as spoken to about my symptoms and immediate events(i.e. when did symptoms start, have they changed since onset, etc). Also, the facility is clean and welcoming which helps so much when you just don't feel well (not to mention the warm blankets provided because I mentioned being cold).

I was contacted by an Office Staff (Not a tenured Staff member), but I'll leave Her name anonymous. Long story short I was contacted by a Staff member to confirm current insurance and the appointment was made. Shortly after my Telehealth appt I switched Providers and contacted the Office to book a second app at which time a tenured Staff member confirmed my current insurance wasn't accepted. I was confused and mentioned my previous appt was with the non-accepted insurance and immediately contacted Cape Fear Valley billing. I was contacted by CH and She explained the Staff member was no longer with the practice (WOW)! My first thought should you be sharing that info? Second thought... How many other people were mis-informed and mayve experienced the same issue. I was told to submit a financial assistance application to help with the bill. After a lengthy back & forth and having to submit 3 different documents I was contacted and told I got approved for a 100% sliding fee, but it will not cover my $263.00 bill, so all the documents I provided were never really going to help the bill I acquired due to the lack of knowledge on the Staffs part. I have since changed my insurance to be able to continue care at this Office without a chance of this becoming an issue in the future, so the sliding fee really doesn't help me. This is terrible and this bill should be written off cause I would never have intentionally made an appointment with an insurance my Provider didn't accept.. Terrible customer in this matter and highly disappointing.

Going without my medications for a week would have been devastating to my health. I called Raeford Family Care Center and explained my situation in detail. The front desk staff's understanding of my situation was exemplary. I truly felt treated a human being with legitimate concerns and not simply another person with a problem. Within an hour and and half, I was seen by kind and competent nurses and a Physician's Assistant. I walked out the door with a prescription for refills in hand! Now, this is not a state-of-the-art clinic with high-end furniture and artwork;if that's what's important to you in a clinic, then move on, my friend. This office clearly cares about YOU the patient. I'm transferring to this clinic for both myself and my two young girls. Highly, highly Recommend!
