They not only have kids and adult sections, but also a Tween area and a separate Teen area. They have a coffee shop, a little area to purchase used books for a donation. They are always featuring different book genres near the entrance, and have SO MANY CLUBS and activities. Multiple book clubs, fiction and non fiction, writing clubs, craft clubs on the weekends, a 3D printer anyone can use, puzzles to borrow, tools to borrow, a book club book shelf with multiple copies, and my favorite: their Lucky Day shelf, where you can borrow a hot hard to find book for up to 7 days. They also pretty much have EVERY book and if they don't, they will get it for you from another library or order it. The holds shelf is a well-run system and my holds are always ready quickly and easy to pick up. I haven't even scratched the surface with what they offer. This place is downright magical compared to the smaller neighborhood library I was used to in the city. Wheaton has done a great job with their library - you can tell it is well loved by how full their parking lot is day to day!

It is a beautiful library, but unless you have a library card, you are treated with so much contempt. Want to purchase a library card? Get ready to spend a crazy amount of money. They claim the amount is based on the property taxes you would have paid, but I have always found the quote to be much higher. Also, if you rent but the building you rent from is in "incorporated" Wheaton, you don't pay property taxes, but you do get a library card. The librarians are generally irritated if you ask them simple questions, such as "how do I reserve a room" or "where can I print?" This week, I saw a woman ask to reserve a room and she didn't know that you need to leave an ID because the librarian didn't tell her, then the librarian got upset when the woman didn't hand over her drivers license right away. The library is supposed to be a community place. I just don't understand how it is full of unkind people.

(so while i was totally awe-inspired and impressed overall, of course i have to nitpick. that's what happens when you're "in the industry." meet me in the next paragraph if you're not interested in this little rant.) i did not like the youth desk; i felt like the staff were hiding behind this weird green panel. kids would have to go to either side to see them. and when standing in front of the desk, all you see is the green panel, oddly positioned, and noticeably NOT covering the many, many wires protruding under the desk from the computers. i really do not understand this design. some things i loved about this library: --the storytime room looks like the bottom of a rocket from the outside. totally cute. (nitpick: is there a way to get in without taking the stairs?) --they have a sort of enclosed outdoor space right near the storytime room. jealous! --wide, open spaces, likely with lots of little nooks and crannies to get yourself cozy in. --wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable, talented staff.

Send them to the KID's Library upstairs- what's it's FOR!! You can understand ONE phonecall outloud answer- 15mins of it- NO. Get a clue. Staff KNEW she was disruptive and did nothing about it. I am too nice of a person to 'correct' a stranger and omg forget it if they're a POC. Why would the last nice place- a LIBRARY be allowed to be trashed?? STAFF: DO YOUR JOB. It keeps me from having to spend money on book/DVD/music entertainment and cluttering up my shelves with things I'll only use once or twice. Plus, the smell of books within a beautiful brick building really does something for me (man, if only my husband and I could have a romp in the stacks). So, a library that gives you a free book when you sign up for a card? SWEET! When I signed up for a card a few days after I moved here, I received a copy of "Rocket Boys" (the book that inspired 'October Sky') along with a brochure highlighting all the library events in October (and man, there's a ton of them!). This may be the first library where I've actually paid attention to the free events they offer. And they gave me a book I'd actually be interested in reading at some point. Major props for that. Roselle's library is a bit on the small side, with a smaller selection than I'm used to, but at least they have the basics -- books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, whatnot -- and a nice youth section upstairs. All the people that work here are very personable and made me feel right at home. This is the perfect library for a sweet little town.

My daughter and her tutor used the Hemingway study room on 5/20 at approximately 5:45 p.m…read more Unfortunately, the experience was extremely unpleasant and concerning. The group using the room prior to them left half-eaten sushi in the trash can, causing the room to smell strongly of fish. To help with the odor, my daughter's tutor, who is also a Glen Ellyn resident, placed the trash can partially in the doorway to keep the door slightly open for ventilation. An employee described as taller with dark hair approached them and stated that it was "policy" that the trash cans had to remain inside the room with the door closed. When the tutor explained the odor issue, the employee returned with a bottle of Febreze and sprayed it directly in their direction inside the enclosed study room, then placed the sushi-filled trash can back inside the room and shut the door again while reiterating that the door had to remain closed. My daughter became physically ill after the session and vomited when she got home. Regardless of intent, spraying a scented chemical irritant into a small enclosed space without asking the occupants was inappropriate and unprofessional. More concerning is that the obvious solution -- simply removing or emptying the trash containing rotting food -- was ignored in favor of masking the smell with spray fragrance. This situation demonstrated poor judgment, lack of customer care, and an unnecessary escalation of a simple sanitation issue.

The pros include: There is a wide variety of books for kids to check out. It's enough for them to pick out what they like and be happy with. There are 4 tablets at the tablet station. They have learning, educational games for them to keep busy. The kids space has wooden puzzles too if you don't want your kid to play on the tablets. Not a lot of kids during the evening hours. Bathrooms nearby kids section. Kids programs available monthly. Especially in the summer. The cons include: Small selection for adults. I have some trouble finding the books I need. No crafting area to make cool crafts. Not too many toys for kids, so my kids usually come for the tablets. And not too many computers to come and print things out.
