Seriously lacking in empathy. Snappy with her assistant in front of patients. I had one particularly bad cleaning experience where she kept having to inject me with more anesthetic but acted exasperated about it, when I was in real pain. Ended up switching dentists and my current person uses numbing gel rather than injections and is much gentler while being equally effective. Also, hot tip, bragging about your latest tropical vacation while proposing costly invasive work at every appointment...not a good look. read more

Been seeing Dr. Lam for 6 years and I've never been more confident in my smile. Not only is she super skilled, she is SO knowledgeable about dental issues. She's been able to point out issues that other dentists have glossed over that could really have been a danger to my health if they hadn't been addressed. And she has great bedside manner as well. I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to my teeth because of past experiences, and she's so understanding and reassuring. She will go out of her way to make me feel comfortable. Dr. Lam has been my dentist since she started her Downtown LA practice...possibly 20 years ago. I have been totally satisfied and appreciate her service. I have not lost a tooth!!! We agreed to a regimen of quarterly cleanings, regular X-rays and exams. My insurance covers most of the cost. I park at The Bloc and Macy's validates for $1; walk 2 blocks and I'm there. I can also take the Wilshire bus and it drops me off right in front. They always take me right away; I never have to wait. Treatments are exactly one hour, unless I'm told otherwise. I've been going to Dr. Lam for about 2 1/2 years now. My first year with her consisted of extensive restorative work, that was already partially completed when I started with her. I have very thin enamel and grind my teeth, and before I started all that work I had not been to the dentist in 3-4 years. I started the work with a dentist near my home, but when I changed jobs to an office downtown it became too much of an issue to take 1/2 day off to go back to the valley for dental work when I was going in every couple of weeks. Dr. Lam is located across the street from my office so I figured I'd try her out - and I wasn't disappointed. Dr. Lam did fillings, replaced old crowns, and also replaced old veneers on my two front teeth that were overdue and leaking. Two additional veneers were added on either side of the two front teeth, as well. I had the veneers done for structural reasons, not cosmetic, but she was still an absolute perfectionist about them and I must say that they look FABULOUS. She also created a nightguard for me, and prior to having my veneers done I did have my teeth whitened, which went very well also. When having all this work done, I have many times claimed that Dr. Lam should win an award for her handling of the novicaine gun. Dead serious - you barely feel it! For the last 2 years my teeth have stayed in perfect condition. I have been a model citizen when it comes to home care and have my cleanings done regularly. I've been so happy with Dr. Lam's work that I have systematically referred a group of my co-workers over to her and new employees usually hear about her in their first two weeks. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lam for about a year and a half and have been ecstatic with the results. She is very gentle (I'm a huge baby when it comes to my teeth) and a pleasure to visit. My entire family has been patients of Dr. Lam for over four years now and every time it's been a great experience. Even though we moved out of the LA area two years ago, we still make the hour drive up there because she always does a thorough job and is honest with you about what you need to work on to keep your teeth in better shape. I generally don't like Dentists, but Dr Lam is the exception. She is both personable and professional. My teeth are terrible, but she takes good care of me from root canals to cavities. On my last visit I got a thorough cleaning and she checked me out thoroughly for any new cavities. It was fast and painless. I'm not a big fan of going downtown, but she is worth it.
