Members have free admission at the Western Heritage Museum at the New Mexico Junior College. Please, someone, encourage the NMJC to put out a remembrance bulletin board of our beloved Dr. Steve McCleery ASAP. I am disheartened that nothing was displayed anywhere on-campus on 4.6.2025 when my daughters and I visited and again when I walked my brother's dogs on 4.8.2025. There's a parking lot for about 25 cars and a nice park attached with more parking across the street. It's brightly lit inside and quiet. I've been to many other libraries and it's the first time I've seen so many tables and chairs available. It's very inviting for you to come and spend an afternoon. Also, great signs everywhere showing inclusiveness and that libraries are for everyone. One drawback might be that there's one main room so it's possible sound could travel easily.

There are lots of displays and documents, timelines and witness accounts, newspaper clippings etc. so if you really want to take it all in, you'll need to give yourself some time. There's a really large research library inside which I found interesting. If you're really into UFO history, investigations, government reports and all of that you could easily spend hours in that section alone. The exhibits themselves are fine, although some of it feels a little dated and again, it's a lot of reading. It's also dog friendly and I'm pretty certain that the UFO exhibit with the life-size aliens kept my dog distracted long enough for me to read most of what I wanted to. There's definitely plenty to keep humans engaged as well if you enjoy learning about the 1947 Roswell incident and everything that followed. The gift shop was really cute; maybe my favorite part. Lots of quirky alien merch, books, shirts, and fun souvenirs. We got a giggly alien head headband in child size that we ended up putting on our dog. It was adorable. I also got a really nice knitted sweatshirt that I probably overpaid for but I love it. If you are looking for something very Roswell you will find it here. This is definitely a place worth visiting, especially if you've already come to the area, just remember to give yourself time and not rush it or expect some sort of interactive/theme park type experience.

We decided to wander in to see what they had & we are glad we stopped by. It was a lot of fun looking at each of the booths that were set up while trying to find little treasures to take home. There is a good mixture of booths here, some have actual vintage products, some have handmade products and others just have bulk type nerd products like loungefly that they are reselling. The store itself seems pretty well organized & clean. Prices vary from booth to booth as every booth is run by someone different. Some booths have some great finds and great prices and others seemed a bit too high. We found a few neat things we decided to pick up!

At the time, her credit/debit card machines were down so thank goodness my mom brought enough cash. Lol. Tickets were as follows: Adults = $10 Senior citizens = $9 Children = $5 The building combines what used to be a saloon and later a hotel. There was a slew of information that we didn't get to read or skim because it was blocked off by half doors or locked screen doors. In the saloon, there was an electronic, animated bartender that supposedly mimicked the real bartender who was present when the shootout/murder happened. My oldest daughter thought his eyes were creepy. Lol. There was a theater room for patrons who are physically unable to climb the staircases... a video tour film was made about the history of the museum. The gift shop was actually a big hit for my all-girls group of four. I bought a recipe book put together by all the locals of Pecos, including our museum docent. My daughters loved the rocks, arrowheads, and a t-shirt... plus the cantaloupe-flavored jelly beans! Note: The sweetest, best cantaloupes come from Pecos! Ms. Lara reminded my young daughters to recite to her their favorite part of the museum. She kindly gave them a couple of pieces of candy for doing so. Free parking. Restrooms in the courtyard area which can be rented out for parties, weddings, etc. A statue of "Pecos Bill" is near the parking lot as are the 8-ft tall brightly-painted cowboy boots. Also within walking distance was the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame, but they had already closed. Love the ranching & military history of this area. Don't let it be forgotten!

Free parking too. Donations were welcome. Second, this behemoth of a building is home to the Roswell Artist-in-Residence (RAiR) Program, founded by the now deceased businessman and fellow artist Don Anderson. There are - to my recollection during our brief introduction on November 29, 2025 - hundreds of artists that apply every year. They dwindle that number down to 6. The artists hailed from all over the world. Third, the artwork is fascinating. There was no limit to the use of mediums either. Each piece is labeled with the artists name, their country of origin, what year they were born, the years they were RAiR, the title of the artwork, the year of its completion, and the mediums used. My middle school daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed room after room of inspiration. They talked about a few of the pieces for several days afterwards. And to think... this opportunity resides in the flat desert of southeastern New Mexico.

It may be a relatively small place compared to the likes of The MET, but this museum holds its own.

I especially enjoyed the paintings by Billy Schenck and the black and white architectural photographs of New Mexico subjects by Robert Christensen. There are several galleries of permanent exhibits, along with a number of rotating exhibits. Admission is by donation. Parking is plentiful in a lot next to the museum, and it's free.

I believe it's free without admission ( they accept donations). You can go inside and it's essentially a library with UFO and paranormal themed books, as well as a separate room for sci fi books and another room with more incident reports and such to look at. It's pretty neat and I wish I had more time to sit and read a few of the interesting books they had. In short, this place is more fun for adults than for kiddos but if the kiddos can read it may be interesting for them.

And I'll tell you what... they've got the sci-fi sounds humming, lights dancing, and just enough weirdness to make you feel like you took a wrong turn somewhere past Earth. Is it a little generic? Sure. But if you walk in with the right attitude and maybe a drink or two whispering bad decisions in your ear it turns into a pretty dang fun ride. It's the kind of place where you catch yourself grinning for no good reason and thinking, "Well... this ain't right, but it ain't wrong either." And look, I'm just gonna say it there were a lot of folks in there enjoying themselves, good energy all around, and yeah... easy on the eyes, not gonna lie. The whole thing felt light, playful, a little goofy but in a way that works. It's not trying to change your life, it's just trying to give you a good time, and buddy, sometimes that's all you need. By the time you walk out, you're not asking if it was perfect you're just nodding your head like, "Yep... that made the list."
