Dr. Garcia and his team at Utopia Wellness have a very unique approach to alternative medicine. In addition to treating ailments with natural vitamins and minerals found within the earth as well as our own bodies, Dr. Garcia strongly believes in the mind-body connection, which makes him a true holistic doctor. Although Dr. Garcia is capable of treating just about anything that is thrown at him, his primary speciality is treating cancer. Unlike most cancer treatment facilities, Dr. Garcia's office is warm and inviting. Patients are treated like family and patients are encouraged to talk with each other, learn from each other, and grow with each other. One of the unique aspects of Dr. Garcia's clinic is that each patient participates in a weekly group therapy session that is run by a licensed mental health counselor. In addition, each patient meets with the therapist for 1 individual session each week. The purpose of the groups and the individual therapy sessions is to help patients identify the emotional issues underlying their ailments and in this case their cancer. I know this sounds a bit out there, but this is the root of the mind-body connection. To put it simply, there is a connection between the way we feel emotionally and the way we present physically. Positive feelings and emotions promote positive physical fitness while negative feelings and emotions promote negative physical fitness. This is one of the hardest things for patients to understand as it necessitates patients taking accountability and ownership of their current physical state. It also necessitates that patients examine their lives and explore many issues that they have hidden from throughout their lives that likely led to their current state. In an ideal world, this process would be a slow and gradual process. Unfortunately by the time many people learn about Dr. Garcia and the team at Utopia Wellness they are running out of medical options. It is not uncommon for patients to tell Dr. Garcia that their primary doctors have given them X months to live. As a result, Dr. Garcia has to act quickly and "hit the ground running." When patients first start seeing Dr. Garcia, time is not typically on their side. As a result, things need to happy fairly quickly in order to buy the time necessary to enable the team at Utopia to empower patients to heal themselves. This means that deep seeded issues are brought to the surface fairly quickly and discussed on a weekly basis. This is something that is hard for many patients who first start out in Dr. Garcia's program because they expect to show up, kick their feet up, and let Dr. Garcia do what he does best: treat people. They do not, however, expect to be put to work on themselves. The patients that do well in the program are the ones who are open to exploring the underlying causes of their ailments and working on themselves. This is a life long process and journey that everyone, healthy and sick alike, should embark on. The patients who are resistant to this process are the ones who tend to not do well in the program. They are the ones who have a difficult time getting better because a crucial piece of the puzzle is missing: introspection and reflection. It is these patients who tend to have a negative view of their time and treatment at Utopia largely because they are not ready to embark on this journey.
