My stepson and his bride chose this venue as an in-between location for friends and family spread between west GA and SC. The outdoor area is beautiful. The indoors was the perfect size for the 100 or so guests, and I loved the intimacy of it being a house and not a banquet hall. Photos and special touches personal to the couple were displayed around the house, as well as outside. A fun surprise was the photo booth, and one set of pictures was put in a book for the couple. Nice touch. And every single employee I came across was so polite and friendly. The food was delicious, and overall it was just a lovely, well handled event. What keeps it from being a 5 star venue in my opinion are the steps leading to the upstairs area of the banquet room. This is an issue for older guests, so this should probably be a consideration before booking. As far as I know, there is no elevator. Also, the gravel parking lot is an issue when it comes to heels, so paved parking would be a nice addition! read more

I commend you for your lovely house, Carl. It might be a little small for some people, but I think the Carl House was a good size for the 150-ish guests attending the wedding I went to last weekend. I'm not going to gush about it, because I am a manly man but the Carl House was pretty. It's literally just a huge old house in a tiny little town halfway between Dacula and Winder. The wedding was held right outside the main building. It felt pretty much like any other outdoor wedding I've been to. When we moved inside it got a little cramped. You will notice a few bottlenecks in the planning. There's a large dining room with separate seating and bathrooms upstairs. These easily accommodated all of our guests and left room for a sizable dance floor. Also, the Carl house has a photo-booth which was really fun. I love those, especially after a few drinks. The biggest problem I experienced had to do with the bar. If you follow my reviews you might know that I enjoy my G&Ts. I could not believe how small the bar was for a venue this size. It was probably 8 feet wide in it's own little room. There were two bartenders working and nowhere for the lines to go but down the tight hallways. Once the initial rush died down the small bar was more bearable. The only other qualm was the location. Ever heard of Carl, GA? Me either. read more

Disappointed and deceived would be the two words we would use to describe our wedding experience with The Carl House. Our review was too long to post, but we have included a picture of our full review. In short, The Carl House did not deliver on the product that was agreed upon. They cut out numerous parts of our wedding and amenities and made our experience extremely stressful and upsetting. It has been almost a month since our wedding day and we still find ourselves extremely bothered over what occurred. From shortening our event the day of, to not providing the signature drinks, outdoor heaters, valet parking, and the list goes on, we felt we were taken advantage of. Oh and one more thing. Due to Covid, our numbers had shrunk considerably. Because of this, David, the owner, told us that because we were saving money by having smaller attendance, we should have no issue paying extra for the things we were previously promised! We couldn't believe it! Customer service and integrity are dead. For the record, we did attempt to reach out David at the Carl House by phone and email and received no response. I found the venue by looking at theknot.com. They were very nice during the tour and through initial emails. I toured the grounds and they are nothing short of beautiful, the house is amazing inside and out. The actual ceremony was great, rainy so we had to move it indoors, which was still beyond perfect. The reception was also great. The food was amazing (even better than the taste testings you go to quarterly). The only reason I am giving them 4 instead of 5 is because when we originally planned for rehearsal they decided to tell us about a month ahead that they had to move the rehearsal up because the wedding the night of needed more time to prepare (they had to pay for that). Then the day of I felt a little rushed during the ceremony, they were nice and offerred to pack our car up, but in reality you should do it yourself. We left a pair of pants there and a few other things that we had to come back to get AFTER we had already made it back to our hotel after the ceremony. read more

Carl house is a beautiful venue and this review primarily focuses on the food. I attended a wedding here on 12june2016. The appetizers were tomato and mozzarella kebabs, coconut chicken and vegetable spring roll. I skipped the kebab. It didn't appeal to me as it was literally tomato and mozzarella with balsmic. The coconut chicken was fried way to long. As a result it was over dried. The vegetable spring roll is straight out of a box. Which was pretty awful judging half the people attending were asian and everyone could taste it. The dinner was a buffet. Which consisted of salad with no nutritional value, mashed potatoes, green beans, chicken and pork loin. Salad was boring and no nutritional value. Mashed potatoes were fine. Green beans were very salty. Chicken was dry. Pork loin was dry. The best part was the blue berry glaze. Worst part was they didn't have any glaze left to go with the dry pork. Overall... for food. The place is awful for the food they serve and unfortunate for the price I imagine people pay. Venue though... gorgeous. Would i have my wedding here amd their catering service? My friend had a wedding here recently. There's very little space for wedding and reception inside the building so the wedding was outside with reception inside. The parking lot is just rocks so I was nervous about what that meant for my tires and also walking in my heels. It was an early evening wedding and the lighting outside wasn't that good, not sure how the pictures will turn out. Inside the reception the lighting isn't so great either. The food was so-so. We had chicken, salmon, mashed potatoes, green beans. Nearly everyone's salmon was undercooked, well more like a rare to medium rare. So almost no one ate it. I feel bad the brides money was wasted. If it were a restaurant I would have sent it back. The chicken was ok as was the mashed potatoes and green beans (even though according to the menu we were supposed to have spinach). The passed appetizers were good. I liked the coconut chicken, the mink egg rolls tasted like something you'd get from supermarket freezer section. read more

Beware! While they sell themselves as an all inclusive venue, their business practices are very unprofessional. They will ask you for a very large deposit (30% of overall total) and refuse to return that deposit regardless of services rendered or the situation that may have cause you to re-think your location. Not to mention you are forced to use their services (alcohol/food/decorations) with zero flexibility. There are better locations that offer more flexibility to build your wedding the way you want. You are just money to them not a couple looking to celebrate one of the most important days of your life. Don't waste your time here! My wife and I were very excited when we started our wedding planning. At the time, we were looking for a location that met our needs and provided a beautiful setting. We found the Carl House and we thought we had found that location. We began discussing options with them and they seemed helpful. That said one of my major concerns was that we wanted a wedding that included craft beer and a menu that reflected us. The Carl House seemed reluctant to allow us that opportunity. My biggest issue is how they require you to book through them. I am not blind to the fact that these wedding venues are all over priced and they all think they are the best location and sell themselves as such. That said, 30% of the total cost of the wedding is a very large deposit. On the low end for a barebones wedding, this can be $3k plus. My wife and I met with them twice before deciding on the Carl House. We gave our date and were then required to give our deposit within a relatively short period of time. No real opportunity for consideration. Following giving our deposit we we went into a holding pattern until they were ready to discuss next steps with us. Over the next 3-4 months my wife and I came to the realization that this venue was not what we wanted. Several factors played into this ranging from their lack of flexibility to personal decisions about what is best for the both of us. When we finally decided to cancel, it was not a decision made lightly. It was a difficult conversation between my then fiancé and myself about what is best for us. At this time, we had not used any services and not spoken to anyone regarding any details of our wedding. While stated in their contract, though not as strong as it should be, they refused to return any amount of the deposit! This was major money to us as we were looking to build our life together. I remind you we had not used any of their services. Nearly $4,000 went towards the holding of a date that was outside of peak time for weddings. When we explained the situation to the Carl House, they seemed disinterested in our plight and disengaged immediately. After some strong pushing I finally received a call from a manager or someone at 9pm on a Tuesday saying they stand by there business practices, but that they would consider returning a partial portion of the deposit if they booked our date. They did not actively tell couples that this date was available, in-fact, I have a strong factually based suspicion that they actively hid that date from couples. I checked in several times with them over the next few months and they simply gave a general response that the date had not been booked and that they do not advertise available dates. The date was August 25th, which is a beautiful time of the year and a fantastic date for a wedding. Fast forward to Aug 25th, the original booked date. My Wife and I kept Aug 25th as our date and we're at our new, better location. Several of our family members coming to our venue from the Winder area happened to have to pass by the Carl House they noted that there was very much an event taking place. At times that would have overlapped our wedding. This is clearly what we had agreed with the Carl House would warrant the return of our deposit, yet we had heard nothing about it! After approaching the Carl House as to why this was the case and why we had not see a return of our deposit, we got a general response explaining that this was not a wedding but rather a ticketed event that they charged $65 a head for. So not only was their an event on our date, but they were charging for entrance to that event. We offered additional options to the Carl House to do right by us and they refused. In a business predicated on "word of mouth" and experiences, this was a terrible business practice and robbed my wife and I of money that could have been used towards starting a family or buying a house. Some may read this and say, "well you signed a contract". I ask you though, in 2018 where businesses rise and fall based on the experiences of their customers, do you really think that they cared about us as a couple or just a dollar sign? read more

I visited Carl house for a friends wedding and it was really beautiful, the staff where very friendly and professional. The food was great and well prepared and everyone kept assuring the bride that everything was running smoothly and she had time and not to worry. I gave it only four stars because of the placement of different things and there was no flow, and people where just a mangled mess of trying to get to one photo opportunity to the next or just trying to exit the building for some fresh air. The photo booth and mirror photo op where right in front of the main entrance right next to each other. You could see people coming and going in the photos you where capturing with the mirror photo. People who where just coming in from outside where suddenly standing in a line that they had no idea what the line was for. After coming in to your right is the bar, or you can go strait right into the photo booth line. Either way if you don't want a drink or a photo you are now stuck in a sea of people . They had a great toco bar set up and some snacks floating around on trays. But the toco bar was shoved in the corner and people where coming at it from both directions then after you achieved toco greatness you then had to fight your way through the crowd to find somewhere to eat your toco. They need to re think the placement of a few things and maybe put up some signs to direct people to help control the flow. read more

I had my wedding here in 2010. Yes, I know, it was a long time ago, but I often have regret about my venue selection, and I don't want other brides to go through the same thing. First off, it's a beautiful location. The food at the time was delicious, and they were running a special on pricing. However, my coordinator (I believe her name was Denise) was a total bust. She changed coordinators on me about a month prior to the date, because her sister was getting married on the same date. I absolutely understand this, but at least pair me with someone of equal experience. Also, she changed DJs. We found out her sister received the orginal DJ, and we received Denise's brother in law (ahh, the nepotism). The BIL proceeded to play explicit rap music with my 80 year old grandmother sitting right next to the speaker. Denise also did my flowers which were a lot smaller than wedding protocol. My mother was very upset by this, and I often wonder if her sister received the same bouquets and I got the leftovers. The coordinator I did receive failed to remind me of very important factors. Such as, you need to turn in your wedding song selections, you need to provide the vodka for your signature drink, etc. By the way, they served the signature drink WITHOUT the alcohol. Many of the guests said it was disgusting. We asked multiple times to make sure the piano was tuned since it would be an indoor wedding, and we were ensured it was properly tuned before each ceremony. However, our pianist (who was in her 50s and had been playing since childhood) was extremely embarrassed. She even tried to change keys to make the song sound somewhat acceptable. Then, to top it all off, we received our wedding photos, and all the pictures of the reception (at night) showed the dirty window smudges with flash. With all the heartache, I would have definitely selected a different venue. I know it's a long rant, but I just want brides to be aware of what I went though. When my daughter got engaged - it was with great excitement that we started planning her wedding. She is not only our "only daughter" - she's our "only child" - so needless to say - we wanted her dream wedding to be everything it could be!!! We looked at 6 or 7 different venues in the Greater Atlanta area - and none of them seemed to be "just right". They were either too sterile, too "cookie cutter", or so over the top - your guests would feel like they were at a circus instead of a wedding. With our heads hung low, my husband asked if we had seen the Carl House. He had attended a business luncheon there - and said it was beautiful. My daughter and I went to check it out - and from the moment we dropped in to look around - until the moment she left with her groom on their wedding day - it was PERFECT!!! The entire venue, the food, the gardens, the staff, EVERYTHING was amazing. Every single staff member associated with the Carl House was helpful, pleasant, accommodating and showed a true desire to make us feel as if our daughter's wedding was the most important event in the world. I will never be able to say enough wonderful things about The Carl House and staff!!! read more

My boyfriend and I attended a Valentine's Dinner/Dancing Pet Rescue Fundraiser here last night to try something new. When we arrived we had to wait in a short line to register, which was no surprise and actually made me glad they were checking everyone, considering reservations had to be made over a week in advance. After picking up our drinks from the bar (excellent friendly bartender), and taking some quick snapshots in the photo booth, we headed into the dining area. It appeared all of the tables on the lower level were full, so we headed upstairs where there was more seating. We ran into the older couple who was in the registration line behind us and they seemed just as frustrated as us about not being able to find a seat. There were two chairs left in the corner, which we offered to them, as we saw some standing tables downstairs, and figured better us than them if someone had to stand all night Alas, after another sweep through the bottom and top dining areas, we found no other seats or standing room tables that were not taken by someone who was apparently in the bathroom or at the buffet. Frustrated, we decided to go ahead and jump in the (thankfully now shorter) buffet line to get our food. Hoping we had missed something, we asked a nearby staff member if there was anywhere else reserved for dining other than where we looked and were told there were no more seating areas that he was aware of. We grabbed the last two plates and silverware available and began to make our way down the dinner line. They were out of macaroni, and one man was told by a staff member that they would be refilling it soon, though a few minutes later they simply put a lid on the empty platter, and not long after closed the whole buffet altogether. We ended up having to take our plates to a backroom upstairs and eat on a couch and coffee table, and were unfortunately out of earshot of the announcer who was hosting the event. The food was better than expected, and we brought our plates down the back stairs when finished eating (we didn't want to leave them in a random room for someone to pick up later). A friendly staff member on the first floor took them from us, as I think she realized what had happened. While the music was excellent, all of the dining and silent auction tables took up so much space there was absolutely no room for dancing so after a quick look at all the items available for bidding, we left 45 minutes before the event was over (and it was only a 2 hour event). The friendly staff, nice atmosphere, and food are the only redeeming qualities of this place, and the only reason they even got two stars. While I am glad the admission fee went to a good pet rescue cause, at $25 per person, I expected at least what I paid for which was an implied seat for dining and somewhere to dance on Valentine's Day. Considering how poorly this event was laid out, I cannot even imagine how The Carl House handles more complex ventures such as weddings. I will definitely not be back, or recommend events here to my friends. read more

Carl House was the perfect venue for our wedding! From day one the staff made everything so easy for us. They were extremely attentive and helpful throughout the entire process. All of our needs were exceeded on the day of our wedding. Lindy did an amazing job with the floral arrangements and decorations - it was stunning. Nicole and the staff at Carl House made it their priority to make sure that us and our guest were VERY well taken care of. Everything we asked for and needed was done promptly and with great care. We were their number one priority and it showed in everything they did. We cannot express how important it was to have them and they truly made our wedding day the BEST day ever. read more

The Carl House is a beautiful venue both inside and out. The staff was excellent and the food was delicious. There were some issues I have with this venue: Parking! Its in a gravel and dirt field and more than a few steps from the door. A place this nice should have a paved parking lot. Second: upstairs seating with no buffet upstairs for a reception. REALLY? You want your guest to go up 15 winding stairs with food and drinks (the servers never came upstairs to fill water glasses) What about handicapped? Elderly? Little children? the risk FAR outweigh the beauty of the staircase which is nice for the bride to walk down, but serves no other good purpose. We felt so REMOVED from the entire reception. Third: No elevator. If you HAVE stairs at least have an elevator. The bottom floor can only accommodate about 8 round tables so the rest of you are stuck upstairs if you want a small dance floor and drink stations. Even though I think this venue is beautiful with its charm and antiques,,, and I LIVE in this county, I would not recommend for these reasons above. If these things don't matter to you then its very nice. read more

Our Daughter's wedding was held at The Carl House on September 10, 2016. The wedding and reception were absolutely beautiful. Our wedding planner Nicole and Endora made us feel very comfortable and made the planning process seamless. They were awesome! We used the in house floral designer Lindy. The flowers for the ceremony and reception were beyond imagination!!! She made the entire venue look magical! I have never seen such gorgeous bouquets and centerpieces. The food was delicious and since we had a very large wedding there was a buffet set up downstairs and upstairs to accommodate all our wedding guests. My daughter just got married there a couple weeks ago. The venue is beautiful but if you;re planning a night wedding outside think twice! There needs to be some flood lights or somthing so you can see the wedding party walking down the walkway. I had been assured the lighting would not be a problem but it definately was. This is too special of a day and expensive not to be able to see the bride. Also we left several items there and it has been a nightmare to get them back. The hos doeuvres hour was wery tight as you could only go in the bar area and the one extra room. They would not let you go into the ballroom at all until the buffet was open. If I had to do it all again I would not use The Carl House. read more

I experienced the Carl House as a family guest for Mother's Day 2018. The venue is lovely. The menu posted on the web site for this day sounded like it would be a nice experience. Examples of items tried at our table: macaroni with Gouda cheese was very good; assorted muffins and quiche were tiny previously frozen ones as if from a club warehouse; bacon was mostly strips stuck together and overdone; shrimp & grits were presented as a deep pan of grits with a sprinkling of baby shrimp on top, most of which were already gone; waffles were served in 1" " strips, not easily identifiable as waffles; smoked salmon was "mashed" and served in a footed pan; krispy fried chicken & fried steak were acceptable; "assorted desserts" consisted of a pudding and a chocolate sheet cake with white icing. There were also some"krispy" fried potatoes like I often get at a famous hamburger restaurant. Service by staff consisted of seating us at our table timely Unfortunately, I don't think I will put this high on my list of experiences. read more

My daughter and her new groom were married at the Carl House 6/16/12. Both have special needs and their ceremony was unique. The staff at the Carl House went out of their way to make this day so special for them. They treated both with dignity and asked their opinion on everything. As mother of the bride, I cannot say enough about the staff and service (I have pretty high standards where my daughter is concerned). The grounds were beautiful and the florals were absolutely perfect in every way. My daughter especially fell in love with the bridge when we first looked at the Carl House as a venue for her wedding. This was a focal point for her. Lindy did a fantastic job making it look especially pretty for my daughter. Dawn was there every step of the way managing and monitoring every little detail. It was a beautiful day and a gorgeous place for a wedding. Anyone looking for a venue, this is it for that very magical day.
