Shortly after I replied to a copywriter position posted on a job board, I received an email from Gillian, one of the talent scouts at Creative Circle. I was asked to drop in for a one-on-one, and enjoyed my interview process. Gillian knew the ad business, as she had worked agency-side. While the job I had applied for was filled, Gillian said she would keep in touch. And surprise, she did! While the agency biz is crying for web developers and motion graphic designers, it's a much drier place for copywriters--hey everybody can write a sentence, but not everybody can code a snippet. That said, when a copywriting gig did come up, and Gillian felt I was suitable, she would call and ask if I was available for the short-list. Thanks to Creative Circle, I recently ended up with a writing gig at SapeintNitro. Once you've got a record--a good record--the calls come more frequently. So kudos--overall, a definitely positive experience for me.

Essentially your former employer hires this company for a few months to help you not commit suicide due to unemployment stress lol . DBM refers to your situation as "transition period in your career". They provide various resources to help you find a new job: their web site with webinars, on-site seminars with other people in the same situation as you and a professional speaker; a consultant that will be working with you individually helping you out with resume, etc. I found their office in Mississauga was nicer. Overall experience was nice as they were willing to accommodate various requests when I was not happy with the program. Do ask if for whatever reason you feel you cannot utilize resources provided in full. The downside is: there are various free programs of a similar kind. They are not located in a nice downtown office like LHH/DBM program, they do not offer free tea and coffee but they still help you in a similar way as DBM/LHH does. So, if your employer is paying, go for it, otherwise look up free help.

But a friend of mine encouraged me to use Arrow Professional Services: www.arrowprofessionals.com because she said they would take the time to listen to me, and put me in a position that was right for me. I decided to give them a chance, and my friend gave me the name of the recruiter. His name is Rony Thomas. I called him and he asked me to send in my resume. I did, and a few days later he called me in for an interview. The office was really nice, and he invited me into the board room to discuss several positions. He asked me great questions, and spoke to me about my previous experience and wanted to understand what it is that I wanted to do. He then mentioned that he thought I would be a good addition to two companies that he was recruiting for. He took the extra time to explain to me the differences between them. He asked me which one I preferred, and I told him. He then mentioned that he would try to get me in one or the other. When I received a call from him a week later, he said that the company I was interested in, was interested in me for the position I wanted. Rony invited me in for another meeting. This time he prepared me for my interview. He was very good at explaining how the process was going to work, and I went home confident. A few days later, I had my actual interview at the company, and it was great. I felt that I had aced it. I called Rony right away, and he said he would check with the company to see if I got the job and he would call me back. I waited nervously for a few days, until he called me and told me I GOT THE JOB! I would really recommend Arrow Professional Services to anyone. They are really different than any agency I have used before. Thank you Rony!

The newest update to the Job Bank has been refreshing. Previously when using this service,…read moreapplicants from every end of the earth would be received- now there's a function for people who are legally able to work in Canada- allowing for two tier applicant sorts- so if you wanted international talent you can choose that but if you wanted local talent you can choose that. It's a very strange change to Government services, specially there's no longer a direct line to call for assistance- but it's hidden within barrier return pages(feedback pages) if you have gotten in a pickle. I guess it's a way to reduce the call loads. The next strange thing is there is no direct mailing address to mail or inquire- which is weird for a government page; as if they are retiring Canada Post support services altogether. I had to find the address listed on this page by going to Job Bank, About Us, Ontario and eventually finding this page- even then I am not sure if it's the correct address because Job Bank phone calls were historically received from Service Canada. Back to the Job Bank service, job posting on paid websites are often cross posted on Job Bank to expand the searches for companies but this sort of action in my opinion encourage the use of Paid Service Employment listing. Because Job Bank is free, I decided to give it a try- I had used a Youth portal previously , so I thought to try it again. It's been ages since posting on Job Bank. I am unclear how much traffic will be received but I'm curious to give it a try. There are some new integrated application review features but using those also facilitate direct applicant and Job Bank tracking on the free service.
