I donated but this person's kindness and generosity was prior to my very modest donation. I also paid membership to the tenants union-- one was very helpful, the other shamed me for calling (made me afraid to callthem back). Things I accomplished/acquired yesterday during my drop-in appointment, free of charge:…read more - HPV vaccine (part 1 of 3) - HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and pregnancy tests - annual exam - Pap smear - 13 packs of birth control pills - 4 morning after pills I was seen by friendly, efficient staff who foisted the morning after pills on me even though I told them I didn't want any and would also have given me reams of condoms if I had asked. The only drawback was that I had to spend the entire day waiting to be seen. I showed up at the clinic at 11:45am, was told to come back at 2pm because the morning roster was full, went back at 2pm, waited until 3:30pm to be seen, and left the place at 4:45pm. This was ok for me because I had time to waste but probably not ok for someone with a job or a life. In my experience, the 1.5-hour wait at Planned Parenthood is inevitable, even if you have an appointment, but you can easily avoid that extra 2-hour wait by making an appointment beforehand.

Since our building was sold to a corporate property manager during COVID, we have had numerous issues and have been harassed by their so-called staff. Other tenants on the same property have had similar problems. SFTU has always been in our corner and has provided support and advice that works hand-in-hand with the EDC and the Rent Board itself. It can be stressful to deal with your property management company, or even a mom-and-pop landlord, which we used to have, but SFTU will help you take them on, one step at a time. I feel so much better when I leave with the counselor's words in my notebook.

My problem I need to find a Doctor that will accept new patients, Medicare and Medi-Cal. I have not had luck on my own. Sutter Health say they do take new patients and they do take Medicare but they don't take new Medicare patients unless you've seen an in network doctor in the last 3 years. I went to PRC's web site. I thought they had a reference page with doctors that were taking new patients, with Medicare and Medi-Cal. I thought I saw a list but all doctors on the list were Sutter Health doctors so that would not work. I emailed PRC and a few weeks later someone called. I was out and left a message. This happened 3 times with the last message saying they would not call again, I totally understand that. I called them again. The person answered the phone but said she was at lunch and could she call me back. I said yes I understand and hung up. Around 5:10 pm I get a call. The person says I see you might be in our system but I need to ask a few questions to confirm it's you. No problem, first question Date of birth, second question last 4 of social security, third question source of income are you still on SDI, forth question how much do you get from SDI. Fifth question was how much do you have in savings. At that point I said thank you for your time. There is no need to call me back good-bye. I have know idea why they need to know my income and my savings when they already know (or should now) from me having Medicare and Medi-Cal that I couldn't be sitting on a large saving amount. I also don't know what my savings has anything to do with them either sharing a reference list of doctors that accept new patients with Medicare and Medi-Cal. If they don't have a list that's fine say so. If they can't refer me to another agency that does that fine. Yes, I've looked at Medicare.gov and the list is too confusing for me to understand. I still don't understand they question asked just to get a referral to a gay friendly doctor that is taking new patients and Medicare. Maybe the person didn't understand my needs. Note these questions were asked without the person even understanding what I was in need of. (In my opinion). The person was only focused on getting personal information from me. I don't know what they do but they clearly don't make it easy for even past clients to get additional assistance.

Only take 3 beds, no more. They were scheduled to be out in the afternoon (1pm - 4pm). They called at 11 am to say they were 20 minutes away. We had to drop everything to get there. They refused the beds because the rails were composite and did not want to take the chairs. Mind you ALL this furniture was brand new for a corporate house that was never lived in. After a call to the supervisor they took the office chairs not the beds. The couch didn't fit into the garage, it was 6 feet from the door. They would not come into the home to get it. They would only retrieve from the garage. We had to bribe the "volunteers" $20 each to take the couch. Next time, rent a U-Haul and take it to Goodwill. Faster, cheaper and done on your time frame. If Goodwill can't take it, they have dumpster right there.

I want to start off my review stating that most of the workers at St Vincent's are kind,…read morehardworking and lovely people. They should be appreciated and commended for the efforts they put in each day. I went into St Vincent's last week. I was there less than 5 minutes when I overheard one of the employees (I'm guessing the employees are all unpaid volunteers) was speaking to a gentleman extremely rudely, insisting that he was a reseller. She stated they do not sell to resellers, I'm not sure if she meant that specific item or all items. The man stated he was looking at one pair of sunglasses for his wife and the worker exclaimed she didn't understand why he would be looking at sunglasses for his wife without his wife present. The gentleman ended up abruptly leaving. I was appalled hearing her speak to this man in this manner. Who is she to judge? There are resellers everywhere trying to support their families, many single parents and many with children with disabilities trying to make ends meet. It is absolutely none of her business and if this is how St Vincent's runs their charity operation where they've marked up goods beyond what most people can afford and scrutinize the ones who can, I will not be coming any longer and I will also let my friends know to do the same. It is after all resellers that provide a big portion of money for St Vincent's, Goodwill etc. Resellers are not going inside buying up all of the inventory, resellers are very selective and probably buy items that most overlook. With so much going into the landfill, resellers have really helped more than they've hurt. St Vincent mostly sells dingy, outdated, dirty items that have been extremely overpriced. They didn't appear to even be cleaned. Used sheet sets are taped up so customers cannot even determine if they're stained, damaged or unfit for the price. Resellers may be able to offer some help in pricing items so they actually sell. Prices for items should not be determined on any listing prices, instead they should be priced on the sold price if you are trying to compete with eBay or other online reselling platforms. However, if you're trying to be a charity that moves items quickly because you have a huge warehouse full of them, it would probably be best to price your items fairly so the public who can't afford your prices can purchase them or resellers can purchase them, at the end of the day the money is all going to the same cause, right? I'm sure the volunteers work very hard but another situation I've noticed several times and so have others is the way the workers treat each other. Some of the workers are so rude to their coworkers, belittling them in front of customers, being flat out abusive and just being controlling old biddies. I witnessed one customer paying for her items and the worker was trying her best to fit everything into the bag the customer was purchasing while another worker came over to take over insisting that she "let her do it". There's a sign on the door that says " no animals" which is a good idea. Too often than not I've went into stores in the valley with dogs everywhere. Some of them are friendly and the owners have obviously trained them to be in a public place. Unfortunately many are not trained, some are aggressive and some of the owners are not observant to what their dog is doing, rubbing up against other customers, sniffing and licking other customers, lunging at customers etc. St Vincent's maintains this policy for their customers, however not 10 minutes after I was inside, a worker comes out from the back with a dog. Double standards are not a good example of respect for all. I hope that St Vincent's listens to, respects their customers with pricing their items fairly, workers respecting each other & treating each other with overall kindness, especially in front of customers & not turning away paying visitors by deciding who is worthy of purchasing and who isn't. The cleanliness and organization of St Vincent's could also be a focus but that seems secondary to the bigger issues and it's understood that the volunteers work very hard and obviously not enough volunteers for such a huge building.
