Do not bank here! They keep adding new fees whenever they feel like it. You must have $500. Minimum in your account at all times or you will be charged a $2.00 fee every day until you deposit more money. They will change you a fee for every transaction at Giant eagle and Walmart unless you sign up for their program pay the $6.00 a month for unlimited transactions. I have been a customer with the CU for 25 years! So again do not bank here!! Do not talk to ROB a bank associate , he won't help you at all! They deserve a negative rating. Gave them all my credit info ahead of time, asking not to pull my credit score, to see if the loan I wanted would be possible. They said with the info I gave, it shouldn't be a problem. They pulled my score and then could not give the loan, lowering my score 21 points. Untrustworthy business read more

I just returned from Cardinal Credit Union I have never ever been treated badly there. I was disappointed when greeted this am by Rob Bank Manager not with Hello but a stern voice, we don't allow dogs here and would not let me tell Connor who I was there to see and stood and gave me daggers until I left. I told him to Have a Blessed Day. When I went outside, I had to make sure I was at Cardinal where for years have never been treated badly. I am on medicine for PTSD and his voice and body language shook me up badly. I look forward to my meetings with Connor who always has a kind word. Worst customer service at Westport location. The teller didn't listen when I gave her information about what I needed and instead told me instructions that I knew were wrong, only to spend another 5 minutes talking with her manager to tell me what I just told her. I came in 15 minutes to closing and the teller obviously did NOT want to do any work at that hour. If you want good customer service, then you should go any but here. I have a car loan with them. Over the years I have had so many different poor interaction with the staff at any of these locations in Lake County. I'm writing this review now as I've been on hold for over 15 minutes while I'm just trying to get the payoff for my auto loan. I'm fussing they are going to close at 1pm on this Sat. and leave me holding still. WAIT, the call just dropped and it now 1:01pm. I called in at 12:40pm. This bank does not offer online payments from your own checking account without charging you. They don't have a night drop at all locations to drop off payments. Many other banks offer convenient along with today's technology to be able to make payments all sorts of ways. I'm at the point now where I would prefer to pay more in a higher interest rate at a different bank like Chase, PNC, Huntington, 5th/3rd, or any number of other banks,for the piece of mind to know that I will receive excellent customer service and be able to make online payments for free. They might sometimes have the lowest rates, but back to you get what you pay for. If they didn't have good rates sometimes, they would be zero stars instead of the 1 star I gave them. Negative stars would be more appropriate. The tellers are incompetent and lazy. The blond one at the Mayfield branch just sits there and flips her hair and has no clue how to do her job. The manager at the Mayfield branch has no idea what he is doing. They copied every last page of my parents trust agreement and said they would get back to me. That was over 6 months ago! When you call the main office, you will get a different answer every time based on who you talk to. I need to close my accounts, but I have been a member here since I was a kid, 40 years ago when it was Hillcrest educational credit union. I typically don't deal with them because I only have a checking and savings and can do my banking online. Unfortunately, my parents have accounts here. My mom passed away a year ago and they refuse to honor the legal trust they have in place. They also refuse to honor me as executor for my mom and POA for my 89yo father. It is very difficult to get my father out of the house. But I am forced to take him there to close out their accounts and move them to a competent bank. read more

I find the Cardinal Credit Union Staff to be a bit rude on the phone and not very good at explaining their processes.

My case for an auto loan had a few unusual twists, but I got great service from Justas Adomavicius. He was patient and willing to learn about my financial situation in working through the approval process. I would highly recommend him without hesitation. read more

One star because zero is not an option. No one answers the phone here. You have to hound the loan department for them to return your phone call or to follow up on a loan application. I thought credit unions were meant to be smaller friendlier banking options. that hasn't been my experience with them...

I was a member for about 5 years and had several loans. Everything was fine until I had ran into some unexpected personal financial hardship. Now, during the hardship period, I had still always been on time with all loan payments. But somehow they know when you're having financial trouble. On 2 separate occasions during this time, they both called and sent letters to me, asking for payments they said I had not yet made. Each time I pointed to the payments that had been made more than on time, that they had applied to an incorrect account. Each time they ended up eating crow. 3 loans. 5 years. Never late. But if you ever have problems such as the loss of a job, they get an itchy trigger finger and assume you're late or haven't made a payment and start calling even though you've never been late and aren't. And yes, they apologized the first time. The second time they felt so embarrassed, they couldn't apologize so they actually sent new terms to me in the mail, notifying me that if ever late, that they intend to charge a heavy fee. Really guys?!. WOW! I guess someone inside must have been reprimanded for screwing up my payments so this is the retribution that person has taken. Np problem Cardinal Community Credit Union. I had never been late, so there never were any late fees paid to you through the remainder of the lives of my loans anyway. What you need to do is weed out the 1 or 2 unprofessional employees you have to fix the customer relations issues you're currently having. Used to be a decent CU and still could be. You need to find your way back to those days. Many good banks and CU's out here. I do not recommend Cardinal Community Credit Union for any banking needs, for anyone at this time. read more

A nightmare - worst Everything from any bank/CU ever. Since they took over my HELOC at least 2 years ago, all the extra money I pay each month has been paid toward interest only, so I'm hundreds of dollars behind on my scheduled principle payments. Repeated calls and messages - including today when I was encouraged by someone in another department to speak to a loan officer and of course could only leave a message - are never returned. "Loan Department" has no direct number and apparently only one guy - I'm not kidding. Over a year ago One Person called because I left a complaint at the central number. He was all about really wanting me to feel better about Cardinal and promised to take care of my problems and have someone call. Never heard from him again except for an email saying that if there is anything else he could do to call. Seriously - he did nothing, no one ever called - even after I called again after a month or so - it was like a sick joke. The ONLY time a live person has spoken to me was when my autopayment didn't arrive on time - that gets a call! Cardinal has messed with my payments and so increased my eventual balloon payment, sent me numerous offers to change my interest rate, but has never responded to calls. If I sound a little crazy, believe me, I know it. My original credit union was so wonderful, personal, REALLY helpful, and accessible. So it isn't just that Cardinal is awful if you have a real problem or ask for some real answers about options *they send form letters about every couple of months* . It's that I was completely unprepared for having no power whatsoever over the changes they made and the money I'm losing after the only person who Ever said he'd take care of essentially lied. And when that finally got through my naive little brain, my message reflected the kind of anger you feel when you know you're going to be ignored anyway. It can't be this way for many people or they'd be out of business. I certainly hope so. read more

I have been a member here for about 7 years now. The staff is always helpful, the benefits of this Credit Union are great! Multiple locations makes it easy to stop in no matter where you are in Eastern Cuyahoga, Lake, or Ashtabula. Their rates are unbeatable. They have a very comfortable waiting area with TV, Keurig and other mild refreshments. For members, they offer a coin counting machine. Check out Cardinal Community Credit Union, they are WAY better than any bank out there! read more

Cardinal credit union is probably worst financial institution I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with and I am a fan of credit unions. I have been a member there since the late 1990's. The odd rules that they stand behind are antiquated and ridiculous and all to their benefit. The final straw was depositing a large check from my insurance company that I had to pay a contractor with and they put a 14 day hold on it even though the money clears in as little as a day! And the hold did not come off for the entire 14 day period! I deposited a similar check into a regular bank who put a 3 day hold but removed it the next day when the check cleared. I finally realized they were socking me 2.50 a month for not keeping enough money in my savings account. Needless to say I closed my account but they charged me 5.00 to close it.....and didn't care to ask why! Credit unions are supposed to be for the members......this one is definately NOT! read more

I'm an ex-member, way back when they were Mentor Public Schools Credit Union (think late 1970's) until I moved out of state, that was when members actually ran the CU...I guess that's true not any more. Recently my mother died, her mortgage was with CCCU...what a terrible trauma. They were very fast to dump the mortgage to a Cleveland collection mill lawyer, even when the house was already sold and just waiting to close. Cost well over a thousand (maybe 2k) to clear that... CCCU for a saving account...ok, car loan...maybe, home mortgage...no way. Just a too small an outfit, batting out of their league with loan officers and attorneys that have no idea what makes a Credit Union special (hint: your members). read more

Cardinal is absolutely amazing. Despite what these other people are saying -- Cardinal is run by saints. I've noticed that if members don't get their away IMMEDIATELY or get EXACTLY what they want, after being denied by 3 other banks, they choose to take out their frustrations on Cardinal. I've personally witnessed their employees (especially in the Richmond branch, who were not even in the departments that related to finance) to out of their way and above and beyond to make sure members were happy and taken care of. Cardinal Credit Union is THE worst company I have ever had to do business with. I closed my account over a month ago, and got an 800 bill in the mail this week. I have spent hours trying to get this issue cleared and have just been transferred to multiple different people. Many employees have "taken on my case" and I spend a lot of time explaining the situation and each person promises to follow up and then no one ever follows up! If you are looking for a bank that can hold your money for you then this place will likely be fine. However, if you are looking for a mortgage I highly encourage you to look elsewhere. As a property owner of 6 properties I have worked with many banks over the years. I can assure you that no-one have been this difficult to work with. First, they are small, and therefore when problems arise typically they only have one or two people qualified to answer questions or get you the help that you need. Often you will have to wait days, or rely on people unqualified to help. I recently had an insurance claim on my house whom Cardinal owns the mortgage on. Let me tell you, they have me jumping through more hoops than an animal at the circus just to get my house fixed. On top of that, I have to pay several hundred dollars for them to give me my insurance to get my house fixed. Yes, you read that right, they charge you to get your own money from a separate insurance company, that I pay for, just to fix your house. Just trust me on this one, as someone who has dealt with many banks, had a plethora of mortgages, and familiar with this stuff you do not want to deal with this bank in this capacity! read more
