Just a quick update on one of my favorite shops in Evanston. While the pandemic and my own…read moreprecaution level has prevented me from taking my weekly trips here to spend a good hour or so digging through all the different bins (you never know what treasures you may find), I will say their social media game is killing it. They're great about posting "Friday flips" on Instagram to show what's new, and posting throughout the week with new books, vinyl, and other items that come in. They're really quite creative with it as well, so it's always entertaining to watch and still get some weekly Squeezebox content virtually. And, they make it super easy and tempting to DM them when you see something you like to have them hold it for you -- I've done that a few times on an impulse when I see something that captures my attention. Steve is awesome and his knowledge of music is impressive. Vintage Vinyl is one of the only record stores where I could spend hours looking through the huge selection of original albums without worrying about not having a good time. While taking a stroll through Andersonville, I stumbled upon Rattleback Records. There were so many incredible gems to be found, spanning every single genre. I ended up purchasing a couple of James Taylor records, a Bad Bunny record, Hilary Duff and an obscure country music record. They also had a very thick guide to the town of Andersonville available for free which I found just totally awesome. It was jam packed with info about a ton of local restaurants, activities and local events. The staff here were super knowledgeable, happy to help and downright great. I went to sell a few records and keeping in that I'm not directly selling to someone and they have to pay for overhead, they still tried to rip me off. This isn't just my opinion. They offered me just under $30 for my vinyl. Another store gave me $78 and if I had gone for store credit, I would've had over $80. I was given over 60% more than what Half Priced Books offered. This was not a one time thing. If you sell to Half Priced books they will rip you off. Period.

What listings and notices fail to mention is that Amaranth's selection of rare/used books is…read moreinexpensive, in some cases surprisingly so. Thumbing through some mid-19th century curiosity it comes as a shock to discover such a seeming rarity priced at under $5!
