One star is a very generous rating. Hands-down, the worst experience. This is not Libel of any sort and I only give facts in this review ....and maybe an occasional opinion.
I recently went to Car time with money from an inheritance of my deceased father. I was looking for a work truck and saw one on the lot that fit what I was looking for. 2011 F250 with low mileage. Just over 80k miles on odometer.. it was Nothing fancy just basic model. Four-wheel-drive looked clean on the outside and under the hood..
I took it for a test drive and overall was pleased, but noticed a lot of jerky and bumpiness. When I got back to the dealership, I explained the way it drove and that I was concerned of a few things but that it was exactly the kind of truck I'm looking for. The manager Shawn was the salesman and he told me that it was the body mounts that need to be replaced and it would only cost $100 in materials. I took a look underneath and checked out what he was talking about and sure enough they did look rot so I believed him and chalked it up as $100 in material repair I would need to do to get the vehicle running smooth. while I was down underneath the vehicle, I also saw a lot of rust. I noticed it was almost everywhere but I didn't really inspect closely. I've never had a vehicle with rust and didn't think to test the integrity of all the metal underneath. (Lesson learned)
Still a little hesitant on my concerns with the truck I asked him, "what if it's not the body mounts and it's something major going on?"
I was quickly reassured that although the truck doesn't come with a warranty, if there is actually something major wrong with the vehicle, the owner help to make it right. (I Should have gotten that in writing!!!) my mistake!
Low and behold, not even a month after purchasing the truck, the transmission went out. It was that jerking that I originally felt test driving the truck and was told it was the body mounts. I got three quotes. $8000, $7000 and finally the one I went with was $2400 for labor and purchased a used transmission from another state for $1400. Immediately, after the transmission failing, I reached out to Car time to see if they would do anything to help me in this situation, given I was told that they would in the case that something major was wrong with the vehicle. I consider the transmission to be a major component to a vehicle. The employee that took my initial complaint was very kind and respectful. Although He was not the manager ,Shawn , that initially sold me the truck. This employee took notes of my complaint and promised me a call back after he spoke to the owner.
I never did get a call back, but I obviously followed up a day or two later.
It was at this point when I was informed that the owner was not willing to help and that in fact "the best that he could do for me"was refer me to a cheaper mechanic..!
Perplexed by the owners response, I continued to plead for any kind of help. Whether it be financial help in the repair or if I could return the vehicle or trade it in or even help with a rental vehicle while my transmission is getting replaced.
I was told he would ask and get back with me. Once again, I never heard back so I inquired. This time the manager answered the phone and I was able to speak finally with him. He told me that there was nothing he could do because the owner already responded to my complaint. That's when I reminded him of what he had told me initially about the owner helping if something serious were to be wrong with the vehicle. I was finally able to convince him to reach out to the owner again.
Fingers crossed I waited and waited and never heard back. I would call every few days And always got excuses saying he couldn't get a hold of the boss or the owner hasn't given him a response. Never did get a response still.
....I could go on and on about this experience, but I want people to read this whole thing so I need to keep it short. ....Long story short within a month my transmission went out, I realized after further examination, the whole undercarriage is rusted to the point of all needing replacement. It was hard for me to tell what the extent of the rust was when I was initially looking at the vehicle on the lot. Someone had spray-painted black around the wheel wells and anywhere visible to cover up the rust. I'm not gonna say it was car time, but I wouldn't put it past them. They really know how to polish a turd.
It wasn't two days later after my transmission was fixed that the check engine light came on giving me multiple codes. Misfire on cylinder two, exhaust leak, and two others I need to still find out what they are. There's holes in the exhaust from rust. I don't even know how the body hasn't come attached from the chassis. I can put my finger through most of the metal underneath the vehicle. It is a death trap that they sold me for $15,401. I wish I would never have step foot on that stealership. read more
