This is one of the best places in Kenosha. I've been here many times over the years with family and/or friends. Most recently my wife and I were here January 2nd 2018. It's a cool location (I could probably throw a rock into Lake Michigan from the front door). It's great to visit year-round, but Summer is the best. They open the front windows, there is outdoor seating, and music is in the air! They have made-to-order burgers. When I say: "made-to-order burgers", I mean it. You fill out a checklist of exactly what you want. They also have one of the best beer selections in all of Kenosha County. To that point, on July 17th, 2010 I drove here from Grayslake (35 minutes one way) just to try the extremely rare - Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout. I then turned around and went home. On our most recent visit, I created a masterpiece: I call it "The Fred" a Kobe burger, with grilled onions, Velveeta Cheese, and BBQ sauce. It was outstanding! Service is always friendly, but sometimes there is no waitstaff, so you are required to bring your order to the bar. No big deal (unless you are a lazy ass). read more

I decided to stop in because I wanted to check out this local gem and see what the hype was about. We did arrive on a beautiful evening so it was quite busy and had to wait about 10-15 for seating. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. When we walked in seating is more like a modern day lunch room vibes. Definitely good for mingling not so much for a date night. They don't have one particular server , everyone kinda of helps out. It was a little confusing to me. You fill out a menu with your order which was kinda cool except it took an unusual amount of time for someone to collect it. However I ordered a IPA they were featuring this month while the good arrived. I ordered the "Krabby Patties" and fries. My friend ordered the Mac and Cheese burger with fries. We both were not impressed. I would rate this place a 5/10 for the live music that day and my beer. I might return for a follow up over the summer. read more

Recently started coming back to Captain Mike's and I'm so glad we did. There's a new ownership and a new attitude. The slow service is pretty much a thing of the past with staff that actually seem to want to be there. The quality of the food (and the Bloodies) has greatly improved, yet the menu itself hasn't really changed. It's like going back to an old friend. I'm really happy to see the improvements. Limited menus, but very much a place that does a few things well. Excellent beer cheese soup. You order everything off a sheet of paper, like a 2nd grade test. The burgers were good with a diverse option of toppings and style. The meat to bun ratio is good as well as the thickness of the patty. The beer on tap was ok but surprisingly not a lot of local breweries. So not a beer nerds taproom but still several styles of beer. The wings oh man the wings crispy and so good I loved the wings here and I enjoyed eating them. Would be back just for the wings and buffalo sauce. Overall this place was very good. The menu had a wide variety or different sandwiches and they even allowed you to build custom burgers for a ton of different ingredients. After six hours of driving and visiting clients all I wanted was quiet, food, and drink. After reading Yelp reviews I headed over to Cap't Mike's. There was background music, four TVs, and lots of conversation - not loud and just what the doctor ordered. The bartender had a huge smile on his face when he greeted me. He brought the drink menu and patiently explained the menu. When I asked for a gluten free bun he pointed out the hamburger bowl and it was worth it. I ordered the cheeseburger walrus - no such thing as too much horseradish and the clearing stick egg fries - the cheese!!! Oh the cheese!! Stopped in after having to wait almost an hour to be served at a different restaurant in the area. It did not disappoint! We were greeted immediately by a friendly server and he joked with us a bit. I had never heard of Captain Mike's until a friend told me about them last summer. We had tentative plans to visit, but since I was already in Kenosha to try Franks Diner, I decided to hang around Kenosha until I was ready to eat again. The owners have multiple locations with various names, like Uncle Mike's or Mike's Sportsbook and Meat Bar, but the one that I believe is the best known or most popular is "Captain Mike's Beer & Burger Whiskey Bar," so they have a lot covered in that name. Captain Mike's is a bar, not a restaurant, but their reputation includes great food. Because it is a bar, no one under age 21 is allowed inside unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is a sign that states so. They offer a lot of craft beers on tap and in cans and bottles, but I skipped the beer on this trip. The open flame grill is behind the bar and the guys working the grill were busy. I found a pad of sheets on the bar and figured out they were order forms, similar to the forms found at AJ Bombers in Milwaukee, so I knew what to do. When I was at Franks Diner, I asked a guy what he recommended I get at Captain Mike's. He said "you gotta go with the Kobe beef and I like to get the Shitty Bill." A nearby server at the diner heard his recommendation and agreed that the Shitty Bill was also her favorite. So guess what I ordered. While the guy at the diner prefered the "thin fries", I saw house fresh cut fries on the menu, and I'll almost always pick those over frozen fries, as long as they aren't cut into wedges because they are no longer "fries" to me at that point. The Shitty Bill ($10.95 plus $1.50-$2.00 upcharge for the Kobe beef patty in 5 oz or 8 oz) is topped with onion straws, pepperjack cheese, avocado, and a horseradish mayo. It is not shitty at all! It's delicious! The toppings were well-balanced so no one flavor over powered the others, yet I was able to taste all of the toppings. You can order the burger with pink or no pink, that's it, nice and easy. I ordered pink and it was cooked as I requested. The Kobe patty was well-seasoned and the bun did not fall apart as I feared it would with these toppings. The burger was actually pretty easy to eat and not really messy like I thought it would be. The house cut fries were darker in color than I like from being cooked in "dirty" oil, but they were seasoned assertively, not aggressively because that sounds bad, so I enjoyed them. They were also slightly crisp, so no soggy fries. There are appetizers to choose from and you can also build your own burger, but there are a lot of different specialty burgers to choose from for different tastes. That seems the way to go for your first visit, at least. The staff was friendly and helpful even though they were busy. I would definitely go back to Captain Mike's and Im comfortable recommending them to you. read more

I am struggling with this review because I don't enjoy sharing bad experiences. However, after much consideration, I feel like it is the right thing to do. We were seated immediately, and the service started out well however, after receiving our drinks, we waited 45 minutes for our meals to arrive. My husband was very pleased with his except he had to eat his coleslaw with a knife until he asked for a fork. I wanted to like my burger because I was very hungry, but it was poor quality and the flavors of the toppings did not meld together. My fries were next to raw. The busboy came and asked if I wanted a box because most of the meal was still there and when the waitress finally came back I expressed to her my disappointment, I wasn't expecting any kind of discount, but I thought she should know and share with the manager. Moments later I was greeted by the owner who was having a bad day. He asked me why I didn't alert them sooner to the issue and I was speechless because I have never been scolded for sharing my experience in a restaurant. Not worth the money no matter how you try and look at it! The service however is always fantastic even considering that it consistently takes an hour or more to get your food even if there's only 4 other people there. The burgers are almost always dry with burnt bits that you can taste in every bite and the prices are just absolutely insane for what you get! You can go get a genuine Gourmet meal on the Vegas strip for the same price as a burger fries and a drink from these guys. We made day trip to Kenosha From Chicago the day after forth of July. We stopped by captain Mikes for a good quick bite. The concept of marking what you want on the form at the table is neat, it reminded me of sushi restaurants. The atmosphere was great but that's pretty much all that I can say was great. We waited a little over a hour for our cheeseburgers and fries and once the burgers came out we were told that the frier wasn't working and had to choose a different side. The burger was very well done and dry we asked for a little pink. The way this place is running is not ideal, it has great potential but is failing all around and the only reason we left a tip was for the food runner who was hustling is heart out! I hate to say but if I find myself back in town I won't be rushing back to Captain Mike's! read more

Possibly the rudest greeting I've ever had walking into a restaurant. We walked in the door at 9:15 and were greeted by a probably early 20's girl who immediately said "I'm sorry we can't seat minors after 9 o'clock. We asked about outside seating and she responded "they can't be anywhere on the property." Being gluttons for punishment we asked if we could get food to go and tried to explain she should have offered that instead of her abrasive attitude. If I could give zero stars I would...... The first time I was there was a little over three years ago. You find a spot, they give you a menu that you write on and a pencil, and pick it up when you're done. Things should go smoothly right? Wrong! At least a two hour wait to get the food only to find that I got the wrong burger. As in, someone else ordered it and they delivered it to the wrong person. Nice to know that I came from the South Chicago suburbs to wait two hours for someone else's burger. Yes, sarcasm intended. Figuring that I could have caught them on a bad day (because the place was packed the first time), I went with my husband a second time because he really wanted to go. We get in and see that we are two of maybe 8-10 people in there. Should be better than last time, right? Wrong again! I mark down what I wanted again and got the wrong thing again! I can't honestly see what people see in this place because the staff clearly can't read or even tell where to bring the food. This place use to be absolutely amazing. I visit Kenosha a few times a year and always made this a place to stop after finding it a few years back . When I stopped last week my amazing views changed fast. When in Wisconsin, I always get a Spotted Cow Beer. The server harshly told me they don't serve Spotted Cow (they always did) so I was about to ask for a bud light when he then said they don't serve Bud products either. Sorry but what Wisconsin bar won't serve Spotted Cow? But secondly, what bar in the midwest will not serve Bud products? But no big deal the Mac and cheese is why I go. Well I got my usual Mac and cheese and my wife did the same. Both our Mac and cheese had hardly any cheese on it. It was basically water logged noodles. My wife's had multiple small black hairs in it. I was pretty let down. I will never go back again. I asked on the side if management or ownership had changed, but they said no. We have not visited Captain Mike's for a few years, the quality of the business went way down. WITH THAT BEING SAID.... we went for lunch yesterday, we heard Jeanette the former manager and her husband Mike bought the place. BEST THING THAT COULD HAVE EVER HAPPENED! The inside looks fantastic, it looks clean and welcoming. The staff is the same, friendly people, BUT, better. It is amazing how caring owners and can have a positive impact on the staff. Our Bloody Mary's reminded me of the reasons we were frequent visitors of Captains many years ago. OMG, I felt like I stepped back 7-8 years, they were amazing, almost a meal and THE LARGE SHRIMP IS BACK!! Our appetizer, cheeseburger egg rolls, were delivered to the table in less than ten minutes, fresh, hot and delicious. Our burgers delivered right as we finished our appetizer! The Sunnyvale was dripping with cheese, egg and crisp bacon. The brioche bun was fresh and perfect for this gigantic burger. Cheeseburger Walrus another great choice, and cooked perfectly. You can actually feel the renewed vibe in Captain's, new ownership has definitely made a huge impact, not only on the refreshed look of the place, but the whole Mike's Team. Pretty much one of my favorite places in SE Wisconsin to get mac & cheese. They have an extensive list of toppings, and though it can get pricey, the bowl they serve it in is MASSIVE. For me, it ends up being three meals---so worth it! I usually get beer cheese added, always fantastic. The bacon on top this time was perfectly crispy! I've come at both lunch time during the week, and on a Friday night. Weekend evenings are bound to be busy as it's a popular bar in the downtown area. This is my favorite bar in town! I've tried to branch out and try different bars in the area but I always come back to Captain Mike's. They have something going on almost everyday. Their events are posted above the bar, but if you want to know exactly what they are you could probably just give them a call. The bartenders have always been very friendly and talents. The price of the food and drinks are a little more expensive than what you can get somewhere else, but it's never been something that's kept me away. Their burgers are definitely their specialty, but their wings are kinda mediocre in my opinion. Overall it's a great bar with great food, great people, and a great chill atmosphere. My wife and I stopped in to Captain Mike's on our anniversary a couple months ago and loved it. i've been back a few times and have gotten to know a few of the regulars there. Stopped in today, food was good, but had a hard time getting someone's attention for a soda, asked one waiter who kinda looked at me and went on. The guy I was sitting with remarked that he guessed I was invisible now. In an effort to get someone's attention I waved at the bartender, who proceeded to absolutely lose it to the point where I thought we were going to get in a fistfight right then and there. I've never had someone in a business talk to me, the way this person dI'd. I would love to talk to the manager or owner, all they have to do is watch the video. They could see how many times I tried to flag someone down respectfully and have them ignore me. First time visit to Captain Mike's. The wife and I both had the Milk Jugs and electrical cords burgers. They were outstanding! Navigating the menu was unique for us but it was actually very easy to get through and get your order together. It was a little on the noisy side but I think that is to be expected at a Beer and Burger bar. Easy access to parking and close too.
