They have a giant lake for fishing, you can fish from the dock areas or bring or rent a non-gas powered boat. You can also rent a canoe or paddle boat but all the rental stuff is only open during spring/summer They have a 5 mile trail along the lake that's a nice walk but can be crowded when the weather is good and pay attention since the trail entrance isn't marked as clearly as it could be. They also have mini golf, a train, playgrounds and some other stuff. It's free for Fairfax County residents (glad we're getting something for our taxes) and $10 for everyone else but of course the rentals, mini golf, train, etc. cost extra. There's a decent amount of parking but go early on a nice day or you might have a hard time grabbing a spot. I'll come back here for sure to walk the trail and maybe do a little fishing or rent a boat

Sandy Run is a true delight…read more Yes I'm a New Yorker - but I review in the lower '48 if you get my drift! It's serene, peaceful and wooded. It's secluded: not much but a few dry dusty trails along the bendy Occoquan River and a hot, unshaded parking area. Across the river are streets named 'Mohican' and 'Aviary' and you could certainly place yourself in a James Fenimore Cooper novel here. If James Fenimore Cooper wrote in Virginia.. which he did NOT: he wrote only in NEW YORK. Although we were here on a day where there were no rowing races, it was well worth a visit for the meandering river, imagining the skull boats pressing around the corners, the wildlife, birds, the flair of the outdoors, calm and relaxing river bends and most of all the fresh air and nature. If you think you want to tailgate, bring some travel chairs as there's no place to sit.. Quiet oasis. Rebel review: 5
