At 8pm on a Saturday night 10/23, my go-to smoke shop had closed early, and I was in dire need of a vape fix. So I kept heading south to Captain Ed's. I asked about their cheap disposable vapes and the guy there silently directed me to their menu, which was, I suppose, helpful. He checked a couple of flavors for me, I made my selection and paid. Everything was fine even though he was oddly quiet. As I do every time I buy disposable vapes, I opened up the packaging and tested the vape before leaving (many places helpfully prompt me to do so as soon as I pay). It worked, I let the guy know, said thanks and started out. But instead of thanks and good night, the guy yelled that I'd left my trash behind on the counter -- the packaging. I asked him if he would please dispose of it for me and he said no. I wasn't expecting such a response. I looked around and saw no trash can, so asked if there was a trash can behind the counter. And he replied " Not for customers." Not for customers... Never in all the years I've bought vapes at dozens of smoke shops has anyone refused to dispose of the packaging. Frankly I was shocked. I didn't want to argue further or make a scene so I just grabbed the trash and left. Captain Ed's has a long history as a headshop in Reseda, but now they're just the rudest smoke shop in the SFV. P.S. The $7 + tax disposable works, but no flavor. I suspect old, stale product. read more

I have been coming to this smoke shop for over ten years. I have lived in the valley my whole life and this shop has always been my favorite. I went by there to pick up a new downstem for my piece and when I was checking out they guy said I could show my boobs to get a discount. Which he then checked and told me I would save 16$ and it's always been there policy. I was creeped out said obviously no and left. I have a good job and don't need a discount showing my boobs to get money off. This literally creeped me out and now my once favorite smoke shop only brings bad memories. I am disappointed this was even said to me, I also wanted to write this review for any future ladies going alone to buy something there. read more

Check in to the worst smoke shop in the valley. It use to be a historical, well staffed place. Now, the employees that were there when I walked in, could care less about selling anything. It wasn't even busy when I walked in, just one other customer and they were just browsing. I literally stood there right in front of the two employees on Saturday afternoon, and not once was asked if they could help me, or greeted me, or even lift a finger to grab what I was obviously looking at through the glass. Instead they just chatted to each other about personal problems, and how another employee didn't show up for work yesterday (or something of that nature).... while almost appearing to ignore me. (Obviously not caring I was even there) as I left I heard them utter something, but I was already out the door. Big Fail! Bye bye Captain EDs, it's been 20 years or more that I've been a patron, but this was the straw that broke the Camel's back. (And the other straws were already bent) I won't be back. B's up the street at leasts greets their patrons and cares that I'm there to buy something. ... I've been happily shopping at this Captain Ed's location for about 15 years. My very first purchase was of a mini coconut bong in 2002. I've always received great service with fair pricing. Always. I went inside last weekend (the weekend before Thanksgiving) to buy a replacement bowl for my honeycomb bubbler, which takes an 18" female. My usual guy wasn't there. The guy behind the counter (he refused to smile) showed me one bowl and told me it was $45. I was quite taken aback by this quote, so I asked him if he had any other bowls I could look at, and he said no. I told him that was outrageous, and most replacement bowls start at $10. He then commenced to arguing with me, telling me that 18" female bowls are way outdated, soon to be discontinued, and this is the best price I'd find. I told him it would be foolish of me to pay for a lightweight glass bowl that costs more than the bubbler it accessorizes. He then asked me what I paid for my bubbler. I told him I paid $30 at The Wild Side in Simi Valley. He said that wasn't possible, because he used to be a manager at Wild Side and they'd sell me the same bowl for $45. Wow, so he's calling me a liar. He didn't even know what the bubbler looked like, the size or anything. Then he said he'd cut me a deal and give it to me for $40. At this point, he had raised his voice and insulted me. He was being a complete jerk, and still expecting me to take the "deal." Of course, no one else was working there at the time to save me from his spewing rage. It was horrible. So I left, drove directly to the Wild Side, and bought an 18" female replacement bowl for $10. Identical to the one that the poorly trained scam artist at Captain Ed's tried to rip me off for. No yelling, no insults, no bartering. How bout that. I also visited the Grand Canyon for Thanksgiving that week and was able to buy another 18" female bowl for $10 at a random smoke shop in Williams, AZ. Now I have a spare and I've spent only $20 on 2 quality glass bowls. The service I received from both places was warm and friendly, not the least bit sociopathic. I will no longer shop here, ever. I will not tolerate condescending rudeness and yelling. I've been a loyal, paying customer of Captain Ed's for well over a decade. Whether this guy was aware of that, he treated me like a piece of crap and no one should ever have to endure that when they enter a store that's open to the public. As a vendor, he screwed up big time. Ive recommended this shop to many many people over the past 15 years but no more. Now, they'll hear this story from me and then I will kindly point them to a different head shop because I don't send my loved ones to places that will treat them like garbage. The treatment I received was absolutely uncalled for and I was very upset and disappointed that I had to abandon what was once a kind and fair vendor. Maybe you'll get back to your roots, Captain Ed's, and started treating your loyal customers like human beings. Just....WOW. Smh. read more

Really excited to be at the captain Ed's today to show some love and support. Got there early because I have a few good friends working in the shop. Also always treated the owner Daren as a friend too. Today should be a glorious day for him. Finally bringing big drops back to the shop and this one is with mothership glass. A very well known glass Purveyor. Was definitely happy for him and he's legendary shop. America's old head shop. I've been trying to help him move back to heady glass again to make he's shop the premier head shop for the valley. Definitely wouldn't be hard since there's only one other head shop in a 10/15 mile radius. Maybe this shop needs understand old respectful nature again. Greeted Daren with a smile and said big day huh? Thinking I should get a positive vibe back and get told sternly I can't be in the back. I replied no problem would it be ok to sit outside in the back until the drop. He raised he's voice louder and told me to get out again. Was only asking for a lil curtesy to sit in back until it starts. No grab your stuff in the back and get out now. Also your paying to get in. No disrespect out of me. When in the back. Daren came in the back and I asked him if I deserved to talked to like that? A quick sorry and walked back inside. Another slap. Well that was the last straw for me. No matter how much you try and help someone. It's sometimes never appreciated! This will be my final visit. I am a regular at the number one head shop in the nation Piece Of Mind! Along with Ziggys smoke shop, hickory smoke shop and rodeo smoke shop. Never once in four year have I've ever been treated like today and two other occasions. I've been invited to these other shop owners house for seshes and holidays. Really known shops make it far because of the way they treat people FIRST and secondly what glass they bring in. Captain Ed's Smoke Shoppe you've lost my support but maybe today you learn something from the other shops. Respect goes a long way. It's 8:03. Drop started at 7. Pretty funny no one showed up.
