It is rare when a dining experience inspires me to cook differently and when it does, it is never lunch. Cappero Bistrot did just that, however, and we loved our lunch here.
My husband and I went to Modica to see the Cathedral and other points of interest. The city is very well known for its chocolatiers but it should now be known for this gem of a restaurant. We popped in ravenously hungry and left very satisfied.
When I explained my allergies to the server, the owner/chef came out to speak with me. He understood and asked if there were things on the menu that interested me, assured me that it would be no problem to accommodate my allergies.
The meal started with an amuse bouche of a chickpea puree with crisped up broccoli on top. The puree was wonderful (and he modified this for me; the original had eggplant, I believe (something I can't eat).
We then had an artichoke appetizer that was served over a cheese sauce made from a local cheese. The sauce was silky, smooth and very tasty. The artichoke was well charred. A wonderful combination.
I had soup with pasta. The base of the soup had chickpeas and was velvety and well seasoned. My husband had ravioli that he enjoyed very much.
Service was unbelievable and the setting is modern with lots of personal touches to warm it up, like the plates with the name of the restaurant on them. There was a very well stocked bar that I would have enjoyed had I not been driving.
