When it came to sparring, it was clear that he was unfamiliar with jiujitsu. The higher ranked team members cheated at tournaments, using the team to have me removed from divisions so that lesser skilled members could advance. Come promotion time, they attempted to enroll me into a pyramid scheme, asking for payments of 2,000 dollars. When refused, they became aggressive and spread negative rumors throughout the community in retaliation. Needless to say, I can not say that this was a positive experience. When I asked corporate about the behavior of this franchise, they at first tried to deny it was even a location. Something is not right with this establishment.

This dojo isn't. It's friendly and welcoming to all skill levels, and other students have moved there to escape the mitaristic style at other schools and have liked it at Villari's much more. Master Brad is friendly and kind and very knowledgeable, and he is good at making sure all skill levels get something out of the class. You can go up to two or three times a week for the same monthly fee, and they offer special seminars and tournaments as well if you're interested in that. Now a couple of years in, I feel that a lot of the techniques/my reactions are becoming automated, which is exactly what I wanted. Also, Reliable Market is just below for after-karate snacks!
