As a 35-year member of our church family, I feel compelled to share with you some deeply troubling experiences I've had with Pastor Matt Whitlock that reflect a pattern of behavior that concerns me greatly regarding his character. We served our church community for decades. My family and I have faithfully supported CBC with our attendance, prayers, financial contributions, and volunteer work --long before Matt's arrival. Recently Matt suggested that those of us with concerns should "go start our own church." This dismissive comment deeply wounded me and others who have invested our lives in this congregation. When several members peacefully sought transparency regarding church leadership decisions, Matt labeled us "insurrectionists" and spread untrue accusations about me and others who simply want accountability. He even falsely claimed that I brought in employees to disrupt a church service. Matt claimed that I deceived a local church to secure their facility for the Town Hall Meeting by saying our gathering was merely a "prayer meeting." The truth is the Director of that church acknowledged I never misled him. We were forced to seek an alternative venue because Matt and the Board denied us the opportunity to gather at our own church. While speaking with my husband about distributing informational flyers Matt "warned" him twice that "there were people ready to make sure we would not be able to walk back to our cars." Making a thinly-veiled threat of violence against us, in particular, and against church members who merely disagree with leadership decisions is alarming to say the least...all from a "so-called" man of God, a term I use extremely loosely. What man of God threatens church members with PHYSICAL violence?? I am dismayed by the lack of transparency surrounding major church decisions. The Board of Directors (now renamed as "Elders") appears to be making significant changes affecting our entire church family without congregational input or proper communication. When questioned, Matt invoked "Ministerial Exception" hiding behind the church's legal ability to circumvent anti-discrimination laws rather than addressing legitimate congregational concerns. As a former missionary himself I was saddened to learn that Matt was unfamiliar with our CBC supported missionaries Jon and Shannon Haslett and questioned why we continue to support them. This reveals a concerning disconnect from our church's longstanding mission commitments. I write this letter out of love for our church family. After 35 years of fellowship here, I believe we deserve transparency, truthfulness, and leadership that values the entire congregation's voice--especially regarding significant decisions about our church's direction and the treatment of dedicated, longstanding staff members. Recently and most disturbing is that Pastor Craig Whittaker, for attending the church he so faithfully led for almost 50 years, is now being accosted by board members questioning his integrity and his love of God just for attending Sunday services at the church he FOUNDED. The audacity of this "Board" is breathtaking. Christ has truly left the building. To find out the TRUTH of what happened at CAPO BEACH CHURCH, I invite you to visit: CBCTRUTH.org Cynthia Vargas Sieloff

Christmas Eve service 2025. I guess attendance reflects how good of a job the new lead Pastor Matt Whitlock is doing. So sad to see this.

Corrupt leadership who don't follow biblical teaching. With the firing of lead Pastor Craig Whittaker, this church has been on what i feel is a downward spiral. The way Matt Whitlock and the board treated Craig after his almost 50 years of service is disgraceful. He still has not been recognized by current leadership for all the amazing things he and his wife have done for Capo Beach Church. Matt Whitlock and the current board of elders should truly be embarrassed. Hopefully the Financials and tithes will represent the mistake leadership made. I don't see this church surviving much longer. It's really sad to witness what happened. Go to CBCTRUTH.ORG if you want to know more. It has all the information about what kind of people have taken over and how they disrespect the elderly and longstanding faithful members who help build and fund CBC for decades. Just look at the picture I posted from Christmas Eve service 2025. Attendance must reflect what an amazing job Matt Whitlock is doing. What a disaster to see the church empty and struggling like that. Christmas Eve services in the past were packed full of faithful worshipers.

Pastor Matt is amazing. The worship music is top notch. Did some "church shopping," and glad I landed here.

I am moving this week and they have gone out of their way to see if there is anything I need. The message was really good! It really encouraged me. This place has a way of truly lifting your spirits. The worship team was very talented, and I loved how they had a fresh word from God to give. Last year, and a bit of this year was rough... but wow did God bring me through it! I wanted to find a place where I could just go listen to the word, and thank Him for all he's done for me. I haven't had a church family in some time, and I know this is the right place for me. These people are ALL truly alive! You can see it in their faces. If you're not a Christian, don't like waking up early, and or don't like churchy people...just try this place. All I can say is I came in one way, and I left with joy in my heart and perfect peace of mind. It's Tuesday, and I am counting the days until I go back again :)

I forced myself to go here this morning and I was pleasantly surprised by my visit. Note: I walked out of the last church I visited after 5 minutes. I have criteria that I look for in a church, such as: *good lighting - check, I was impressed with the excellent interior and natural lighting from clerestory *no stupid, creepy religious outfit or robe on pastor - check *pastor looks normal and doesn't feel reptilian - check *pastor doesn't have a used car salesman mentality - check *pastor doesn't ramble on about stupid things his kids did - check *church is not in an office building, warehouse or school - check *good music - check *members aren't a bunch of controlling, old people - check *people are friendly - check *no talk about politics - check So far, this place is good. Hopefully it continues that way.

Spiritually, it meant a lot to me and I truly hoped it could be the church where my baby would begin his spiritual journey. As a first-time parent, having my baby baptized is something very meaningful to me. I reached out with the hope of baptizing my baby here, but I was ultimately rejected. I was told the reason was because I live about 20 minutes away. What was not taken into consideration is that I moved to Orange County, was pregnant, had my baby, and now that my son is here I was hoping this could be the church he would grow up in. Instead, I had to go back and forth for weeks just to receive a clear response regarding something so important. I have never experienced any form of rejection from a church before, especially when simply trying to bring a child into the faith. A church should be a place that welcomes families who are seeking to raise their children spiritually. Unfortunately, this experience made something that should be beautiful feel forced and unnecessarily complicated. Because of that, this will no longer be the church my son grows up in.

I recommend getting plugged into a community group. These meet in homes and discuss the Sunday sermon. Because I have a weird work schedule, my husband and I have had the pleasure of attending two different community groups at different times of the year. This uniquely allowed me to get to know two groups better and helped me create connections. There are several meeting places and times to choose from. Also, because the church isn't huge it is easy to get to know people. My husband particularly enjoys the men's bible study on Tuesday nights (meets at a home, not Ladera Ranch Elementary). Because I am a public school teacher I get to go to the women's Tuesday morning bible study (also meets in a home) during the summer. Beyond the community groups and weekly Bible studies there are plenty of places to serve. There are some pretty dedicated folks who show up early every Sunday to transform the school multipurpose room into our gathering place. I enjoy helping the media ministry once a month. There are also opportunities to usher, or help with kids, or nursery. If it's your first time coming be prepared to go through a few roundabouts. If you're familiar with Ladera Ranch you know what I'm talking about. There are signs posted to tell you where to go. (From a few roundabouts away you will see blue Image church lawn signs with arrows telling you which turn to take in the roundabout) Look for the driveways with the banner/flags that say "Image Church". It's pretty easy to find the sanctuary area, and there is a hospitality table with coffee and treats that people bring every week. I love when there are home baked goodies. If you get there early there is a very nice lady named Lois who mans the information table after service. She sits right inside the door and listens to worship practice. My husbands favorite spot is second row aisle on the left, unless it's a week I get to attend, then he does sound so he can sit next to me at the media table. I really appreciate that every week during the closing worship time there is an opportunity to take communion. I like that the Pastor reads a communion passage to open up this time, but you are free to go up, or not, at any time during the last songs. There are also some great prayer warriors at this church. Whether I'm sharing a request in person after service, or through our private social media platform, I know that I am covered in loving, concerned, and wise prayer.
