    Capitol Records Tower
    Nadine C.

One of the most famous buildings in Los Angeles, the Capitol Records Tower was built in 1956. Also known as "The House That Nat (King Cole) built", it is the first circular office building in the world. Constructed to look like a stack of records, this 13 story building has been "blown up" in many disaster movies, maybe because it is a recognized landmark of LA. My friend's son currently works here, so my pals and I were able to park for free in the private lot, enter the building, and get a tour of a recording studio and the roof top with its magnificent views of the City of Angels. We reverently walked through the halls lined with photographs of Katy Perry, the Beachboys, the Beatles, Sam Smith, and others. It was a priviledge to be in a place where so many talented singers, song writers, producers, musicians, etc. have made history.

One of the most iconic buildings in the city, it really leaves an impression whether you're driving by on the 101 or walking around Hollywood! It is a very distinctive cylindrical shape stacked with ring-like levels and topped with a stylized spire that lights up "Hollywood" in Morse code at night. Even though this has been pointed out by everyone regarding the building, it does look very similar to a set of vinyl records stacked on top of one another which makes sense for a record studio and gives it even more of a legendary status. It would be nice if this building was open for tours because it is such a famous landmark and if those walls could talk, they would have so many stories to tell of the great musicians (Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, etc) who have walked through those hallowed halls.

It was the 60th anniversary tour. If you missed it you might have to wait for another 10 years or if you know someone who works there you might get a private tour of your own. Typically this studio is not open for tours to the public. We paid $100 each to tour the Studios and all the profits go to a charitable cause. The history behind this building is just unbelievable. The list just goes on. Well, enjoy the photographs which is a synopsis of the tour.

Capitol Records building Tower A 5***** this is where The BEATLES John Lennon Paul McCartney George Harrison and Ringo Starr made their debut and walk through the front doors August 29th 1965 for a press conference and change the whole world with their music. This is where singer-songwriters go to record their music like the Beach Boys and other groups or just the regular person. So if you're into music and recording your songs so Capitol Records is the place to go. Every year at Capitol Records Tower since Beatle John Lennon was killed they have a crowd gathering at his STAR in front of Capitol Records paying homage to a great man in music on December 8th. The day he died. And to celebrate his birthday on October 9th. We have a birthday cake for John Lennon for the crowd of people that are there this year in 2020 was a little difficult to celebrate his birthday and the anniversary of his death because of covid-19 put a damper on everything. But I was there at his star in Hollywood in honor of John playing my Beatles music and displaying my Beatles dolls on each of Their Stars the early Beatles and their black suits and the Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band uniforms. Back in 1964 I saw the Beatles play at the Hollywood Bowl they sure did change the world in their songs that they play. Just (Imagine) if John was here today. Oct/9/1940 - Dec/8/1980 R.I.P. thank you Capitol Records for signing on 4 Liverpool lads.

I was glad to get to view this historic icon that has been defining the LA skyline since the mid-50's. With all the media attention focused on the future of the surrounding property and the new owners realtor plans to built two enormous apartment buildings on each side of the Capitol Records Tower forever placing this historic landmark in the shadows of economical development plans and profits. It seems to me that this purchase was not so much about the love of music or the preservation of music history. Millennium Partners and Argent Ventures have started the approval process for their plans to build two towering apartments, one approximately 585 feet tall and the other 485 feet tall, (Capitol Records is approximately 150 feet tall) the project was first announced more than a year and a half ago. The (conceptual!) plan is to build the two towers on 4.47 acres "using the Capitol Records Tower as a centerpiece"; they'll hold "approximately 492 residential units, 200 luxury hotel rooms, 250,000 square feet of Class A office space including Capitol Records and the Gogerty Building, 35,000 square feet of restaurant space, 40,000 square feet of sports club use, and 15,000 square feet of retail space." Millennium Hollywood will also include about 2,000 parking spaces in eight levels of above-ground parking and up to three levels of below-ground parking. The project will replace multiple surface parking lots and further congest the area and change the skyline forever, so if the elimination of the Capitol Records tours upsets you this should really give you some insight to where everything is headed so hurry up and snap those photos of the historic building because in the future you may need to use your flash in broad daylight to get a clear photo of this amazing structure...

I understand that Capitol Records has a phenomenal reputation and that the Capital Records Tower has great significance but ahh. LOL Parking There is street parking, one hour for $2, and lot parking which ranges depending on when and where. We went in the morning and lot parking across the street was $5. Overall You can see the famous Capitol Records Tower from the street, in numerous movies, and it probably looks better than in person. Personally, I think the Capitol Records Tower would've been a million times better if we got the chance to take a tour and see the inside. Tip They no longer offer tours for the general public; you need to know someone in order to have this privlage.

Iconic. Symbolic. This 12-storey concrete stack of records is arguably the most famous building in Los Angeles. I always imagine Frank Sinatra and his posse taking meetings here at the height of his fame and power in the 1950s. Or the Beatles rolling into town and visiting their West Coast peeps in the 1960s. Apparently, it's the first circular office building ever built. The first album recorded in the tower was Frank Sinatra Conducts Tone Poems of Color. Obscure Tid Bit: The blinking light atop the tower spells out the word "Hollywood" in Morse code, and has done so since the building's opening in 1956.

Legendary building, Gold and Platnium records hanging when u walk in. I've been coming here for years because of the music industry I love it. The record industry can be shady at time and labels are not any better. This label is a staple in Hollywood and a legendary view in the Hollywood skyline. I make hits what do you do??

A MUST DO! CAPITAL RECORDS TRANSFORMS INTO THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BEATLES SERGEANT PEPPERS BAND. YOU MUST DRIVE BY & SEE IT WHEN YOU'RE IN THE AREA. BEATLEMANIA HAS ONCE AGAIN HIT THE STATES IN CELEBRATION OF ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC ALBUMS OF ALL TIME FROM 1967 THE SUMMER OF LOVE. Capital Records is such an iconic building anyway. Most people think it looks like a stack of 45s. There is a flag of the 50th on top of the Building. There is a giant pictured sign in front. Then there's the giant drum with the Sgt Pepper's Logo on it. Now comes all the new box sets, CDs, Vinyl, Mono versions, outsoles & merchandise for The Beatles. PBS is running a program all about the Sgt Peppers album on TV & how they laid down all the tracks for the album. Valley Cultural Sunday June 18th is having a FREE CONCERT called Ticket to Ride a Tribute to The Beatles @ 6 PM. The Retro Attic Radio Station on Tune In Radio is playing some obscure Beatles songs while Sirius XM Radio launches The New Beatles Channel 18. Valley Relics Museum has that vintage cool picture of the Beatles & other memorabilia. The Grammy Museum will be playing the Mono Recording THE BEATLES SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND MAS2653 MONO - CELEBRATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY! June 28th tickets $15 Hulu is streaming the Beatles movie Eight Days a Week by Ron Howard. Goldstar has Discount Tickets for The Beatles Tribute Band Friday June 30th Britan's Finest Fan Four @ The Rose in Pasadena. San Diego gears up July 14th for The 50 Summers of Love Concert with The Fab Four The Beatles Tribute Band & Micky Dolenz of the Monkees & Mark Lindsey of Paul Revere & the Raiders And of course the 50th Anniversary of Monterey Pop Festival this June 16-19, 2017. In 1967, The Beatles had stopped touring, & were working on Sargent Pepper so they didn't want to appear at the Monterey festival. But the Beatles were still a part of the whole festival but were behind the scenes. Instead, in February 1967 the Art Director for the Festival asked The Beatles to contribute a drawing to the upcoming Monterey International Pop Festival that was being organized by John Phillips from The Mamas and The Papas, promoter Lou Adler and The Beatles publicist Derek Taylor. The poster read "Peace to Monterey" from Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Band Loving You, it happened in Monterey a long time ago." In their Always classic Beatles stick humor, the drawing is signed "Sincerely, John, Paul, George and Harold." All four Beatles created together the artwork for Monterey. Paul McCartney was also on the Board of Governors for the Festival and he insisted that the relatively unknown Jimi Hendrix appear at the show. And the rest is history. Lots of Beatles stuff going on Everywhere for people to rediscover why they are still so hugely popular then & today. Beatlenania Hits Once Again!

It takes research and preparation and it's worth it! My husband loves movies like "The Long Goodbye" and "Dead Again", LA based thrillers, so that's how we discovered High Tower Elevator because they used it as a location for these cool films. So we looked into it. More trivia, it is mentioned by Michael Connelly in his novels ("Echo Park) and he used to live here, cool, tight? Hard to find parking in the area, but since we got tickets for the Bowl and we were parked in their lot, we figured we should take advantage and walk to it. Just a few minutes walk, from Highland, we took a right on Camrose and another right on High Tower Drive and here you are! If you want to see it closer, take a right on Los Altos (stairs) and another right on Broadview Terrace and you will be able to see the building and the elevator closer up! A quick hike up the stairs, nothing really. At 2200 Broadview Terrace, there's a Frank Lloyd Wright House, the Otto Bolman House. Lots of hidden gems, art deco beauties around, great views of the city and of the hills around. There is even a bench to sit, relax, admire the beauty around. Fun excursion in our own city where there's always something new to discover, something unique and original. The elevator is for residents only, but it was fun to see it. The tower is inspired by Italian campaniles, built in the 20's. Great slice of LA history, always great to dig deep and find great places off the beaten path!

I saw the Marx Brothers, the girl saw some guy I never heard of but he was in a movie from the 2010s. So there's something for everyone. These prints really humanize the celebrities, too. The girl was shocked at how small Judy Garland's hands and feet were. There are also touches of humor, from Gene Autry's horse's shoe prints to Jimmy Durante's nose to R2D2's "hand" prints. You can get really jaded about the hype of many unworthy singers and actors, especially in LA, but there's something intriguing about how they expressed themselves in the cement. Still, whenever I'm in town and have the opportunity, I make a point to stop by--seeking out stars I haven't yet seen and revisiting a few familiar favorites. Each star displays the honoree's name along with a symbol denoting their area of achievement. The five entertainment categories represented are Motion Pictures, Television, Recording, Radio, and Live Theatre/Performance. Stars are not awarded automatically. Candidates must be formally nominated--often by studios, record labels, or fans--and recipients are required to attend their unveiling ceremony. A sponsorship fee (currently exceeding $50,000) helps fund the installation and ongoing maintenance of the Walk. Fun facts: * The first star, unveiled in 1960, was awarded to Joanne Woodward as part of a test installation. * Gene Autry remains the only individual to receive stars in all five entertainment categories. * Muhammad Ali's star, unveiled on January 11, 2002, is uniquely mounted on a wall rather than the sidewalk. Ali requested this placement out of respect for his name, which he shared with the Prophet Muhammad, stating that he did not want people walking on it.
