I had a 19 year old tattoo that has seen better days, on my shoulder. I really hadn't paid much attention until about a month ago and then I was on a mission to find someone to give it new life. After reading several reviews I gave Capital City a call to see if they would be able to help me. They said of course, but suggested I come down so they could take a better look. Josh was the person to greet me, checked out my tat and said he would positive he could make it look better. I told him what colors I liked and after a few minutes I was in the chair. Less than an hour later he had me check out the work and I was super happy with it. Thank you so much Josh! We will be back. read more

I was referred here from a friend who got her nipples pierced. Although I wasn't able to keep mine, I would definitely recommend them. My experience started with calling them to reserve the spot because i couldn't get the website to work. The guy on the phone was super cool. Told me just to come down they would get me in. I'm not going to lie I was a scared bi**h to get them done again (3x before) but the whole process I felt comfortable. The small talk was super cool and he let you know exacly what he was doing the whole way through. Thankyou for making me feel welcomed at your shop Skinny. I hope to be back soon for some ink. Definitely an A++ read more

I got my first two tattoos here and they were done by Cory. The process of getting the tattoo was very easy and I love how they turned out. The pictures were taken right after they got tattooed. The shop had a lot of cool art all around and everyone was really chill and nice. I had a great first tattoo experience and I will definitely be coming back when I want another tattoo. read more

Rhiannon (Ree) did an amazing, custom and colorful traditional mandala on my forearm. I walked in for a consult (check her Instagram @tattoosbyree for hours) to talk about what I wanted, came back a week later to look at the drawing, and sat the next day for the work. Ree worked quickly, made great conversation, and was honest and transparent about the process and options. The final product really came to life with vibrant colors. (And, the workspace was very clean and professional.) read more

Capitol City was my first tattoo shop and we will always have a loyalty to it and the great artists there. Ree has done three gorgeous pieces on me, and one on my husband. Cory did work on my husband as well and our cautious out of town friend who had always wanted a tattoo but didn't know where to go. To top it off, Brian was absolutely wonderful with my 60 year old father in law who went in with intentions to cover up his old Navy tattoo. After artists in the shop ooh and aahed over his traditional eagle, he changed his mind and had Brian design him a piece for his other arm instead. My in-laws live in Cleveland and are not the most technology saavy, but Brian was able to work with him long distance to get him exactly what he wanted and scheduled appointments for when they would be in town. He now pulls up his sleeves to show off both his tattoos to anyone who will listen! I guess long story short, we have had nothing but good experiences with the artists here. They do consistently good work and I never hesitate to send anyone their way. A+, go get some tattoos! read more

Got my second tattoo here, love it such a great job!! Cory did an amazing job the lines on this tattoo are much better than my previous one that I had done somewhere else. I will definitely be coming here for all my other tattoos. read more

I hate pain, and I'm ok with that. But when the desire for self expression out weighs the desire to be free of pain, Capitol City is the place for you. I got my first tat here, and I was so thrilled with the work. Brian was cool with me being a complete wuss. And he tried to make me feel better about my howls of agony by telling me that the top of the foot is the second most painful part of the body for a tat. So when it was time to get a second tat years later, I decided to return, even though I had moved to Milwaukee and there were plenty of places to get one done there. When I went back, he told me he remembered me, and even if he really didn't, it was pretty cool to hear. Brian has done some really amazing and detailed work, and I almost felt bad bringing him something so simple to work on (my first was way more detailed than the second). But he again tolerated my wussy behavior and did another fantastic job. That was about two years ago, and if /when I decide to get a third I will go back there, even though now I am in Chicago. Thanks Brian and Capitol City you guys rock. read more

I've now had Ree do 4 tattoos, all very different styles and she nailed it on all 4 - totally got what I wanted, and did it perfectly. Plus, YAY to awesome conversation!! Cap City is a very friendly shop, they make you feel like a member of the family. Plus they love my dog, so I'll love them back! read more

Gary is an amazing artist!!! I went in without a real concept in mind, I just knew that I wanted an owl and I like the color purple. He took the time to draw it up and give me a completely personal tattoo that I show off to everyone!! I get compliments every time I go out. Gary's attitude and annoyance with me was only mildly irritating. (Kidding of course). He is the only person besides a phlebotomist that I'll allow to touch me with a needle. He does incredible work and takes a lot of pride in his trade! Highly recommend read more

Brian is an amazing artist. I had a tricky idea of what I wanted & he created a masterpiece that I still adore 15 years later. He also helped out 1 of my super faded, over saturated existing tattoos. I refer all of my friends to Cap City. read more

The guys at Cap City are AWESOME (especially Brian :] ). They are all very artistic, creative, and KNOW what they are doing. The place very clean, so no need to worry about sketchy needles or anything. Like Judy M. said, they recognize you and you become one of the family. I have been working with Brian on my back piece and Gary has done two small tattoos on me. They all have their own personalities, and I enjoy each artist. I really would have a hard time getting a tattoo anywhere else. read more

I love Capital City Tattoo...super sweet guys. I was immediately comfortable, and am so in love with my tattoo that I can't stand it. Brian was my artist, and he did a beautiful job and was so sweet and kind for all the sittings. He listened to what I wanted and drew up the perfect design. I get compliments on it all the time. Brian cares a lot about his clients and their happiness with his work, and does a great job making you feel very special. I would never go anywhere else ever again:) read more

I went to get a memorial tattoo today in honor of my father. I had components but not a complete vision. Brian took what I had and put together an amazing piece that brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye when I look at it. Thanks for a stunning tattoo that is tied to so much emotion and for making the entire experience as relaxing and enjoyable as getting a tattoo can be! read more

I went in with a pretty simple stencil design. The guy who did my tattoo was very professional and fit me in right away. Also very nice compared to other places I've been. I couldn't recommend this shop enough. Brian did a large black & grey flash piece on my right arm my first trip there which turned out beautifully. I went back to him for some touch ups on some older tattoos and my experience was the same. The shop is clean and has a great atmosphere and all the guys are super friendly. read more

This shop came highly recommended to me by friends so I thought I would try it out. I normally go to another tattoo shop in town -- and turns out I should have never gone elsewhere. As a customer at Cap City, I felt like I was treated like an inconvenience. For a place that has a good reputation, I was appalled by the attitude. My artist didn't give a crap about me or my tattoo and acted put off that he had to give me a tattoo. He was visibly annoyed when I asked for some minor changes to the preliminary sketch and placement. I felt like I kept having to apologize for my requests, which is ridiculous!! I almost walked out at a couple of points and I should have. Ultimately, I didn't get the detail I wanted and the job wasn't as good as it could have been. I will never go back there again nor would I recommend this place. read more

I just got my first tattoo and the owner, Brian, was the tattoo artist. I am so happy with the quality of the tattoo (technique, color, etc) and I can't say enough about how great the experience was. I was super nervous and kind of intimidated to be in a tattoo shop, but Brian put me at ease from the start. He has a great "bed-side manner" and a natural gift for working with people. I would definitely recommend him to others! read more

I went to Capitol City to get tattoos with my best friend for our 18th birthday and I had such a great experience. Brian did both of ours and did such an incredible job. I went here for my third tattoo. I'd been shopping around for an artist for a few months, and hadn't found anyone who really got the idea I had in my head. Walked in and immediately felt welcomed. Very professional and not dismissive. When I finally got the tattoo, everyone in and out of the shop seemed to genuinely enjoy each others company. Any time I'm in a swim suit, I have people ask me all the time where I got my tattoo. Definitely recommend. read more

Buyer beware!! They took a $50 deposit and said "call you in 2 weeks". It has been 9 weeks and no call. I have left messages and talked to the artist. All i am getting is a blow off and a big FU. read more

I read some good reviews about this place and was thinking of getting something done there. I've never dealt with such abrasive staff at a tattoo place (or anywhere else) before. The guy I spoke to was unbelievably rude. He didn't listen or give even the smallest amount of consideration to my questions and really talked down to me. read more
