Card signed by staff and our dog's nose and pawprint
Shannon B.

I visited Capital Veterinary Specialists for the first time a few years ago when I thought my dog, Greta, had been attacked by an outdoor animal because she came running to the patio screen door and had a huge bald patch on her side. Thanks to the staff at Capital Veterinary, it was determined she just had a serious hot spot. After a week or so of wearing the cone of shame, receiving cleaning wipes, and some salve, Greta was cone-free and back to herself again. Most recently I had to take Greta in a few days after Christmas because she took ill and was puking all day. She is an elder dog but has never had issues such as these. We found out that day the issue we were told by another vet was most likely not a cyst on her kidney but a cancerous tumor instead. Additionally, Greta had a cancerous mass surrounding her heart. Once we determined we did not want Greta in pain and in this state (she was lethargic and could not even walk to the car to get to the doctor), Dr. Hwang was so comforting and offered my husband and me hugs. We were allowed to have as many friends and family members come and say goodbye to Greta, which made a painful process more bearable. A week or so after we had to put Greta to sleep, we received a beautiful card with all of the staff's signatures and Greta's nose and paw print. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Hwang and the staff that day when we had to say goodbye to our sweet girl just three months before she turned thirteen.

This is the "healthier version"????h

Does it seem right to wait over an hour for the vet to see your cat when you said they could've swallowed something and they should give them something to throw it up before it gets in their intestines? Does it seem right that you have to actually ask to speak to a vet? Does it seem right that you still trust them to keep your cat and treat them only to be charged approx $2500 then have your cat in worse than condition that brought in? If you bring your cat in while they're still eating, drinking, and playful only to have them discharged and then they won't eat, drink, and just lay there and have their anal looking like this now and leaking what looks like a jellyfish seem right?

My girl at Capital Veterinary Specialists

I was referred here by our veterinarian when my cat needed more specialized treatment. Everyone here from the ladies at the front desk, the vet techs and the doctors have been so kind and helpful. Dr. Hanna in particular has been amazing. She called around trying to get an appointment for radiation therapy in Gainesville, Orange Park and even Athens. I wish radiation therapy was available here, perhaps in time they will have it. I am so grateful for this clinic being here and for the treatments and care that they offer. I had to leave my cat for medical boarding while she was being treated and I was given an afterhours number to text to check on her, they even sent me pictures! If I could give more than 5 stars I would definitely

We LOVE You Baby Girl, Gertrude. We are DEEPLY Sorry that Your 3 Greedy Selfish Vets Let You Down! Rest in Peace!

Sofia Morales had Been Gertrude's Vet for the past 2 plus years. We contacted Vet, Sofia Morales late July 2021, when she became ill again. We let her & her clinic know that we were on the way with Gertrude to see them. Keep in mind that we had PAID MORALES HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF $$$$ DOLLARS IN THE PAST 2 YEARS in her caring for our baby & we paid EVERY DIME! At her clinic, upon arriving & speaking to us, Morales put Gertrude in her hospital. While being inpatient, Morales ordered & performed initial tests & she adjusted her meds. Gertrude stabilized, HOWEVER, knowing that she was in a weakened condition & knowing that Gertrude needed HER care, NOT some Vet that didn't know Gertrude or know her frailty and her medical conditions, she instead, turned us over to her Criticalist because, as she said she was too busy for us to be involved in Gertrude's care. Something that we had done for the pat two years. Why was it different now? She didn't want to bother with us being involved. Yes, we were proactively involved in Gertrude's care and that is how we kept Gertrude alive. This time, she wasn't having it even though we had paid her HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in the past and even now, with her new treatment and hospital stay taking place. Morales knew Gertrude needed her, and she instead, took our money and dumped our baby girl on her Criticalist. A person who did not know what they were doing and who used dirty medical instruments on our baby! While inpatient, and with the approval of Morals, the Criticalist scheduled AN ENDOSCOPY TO BE PERFORMED ON GERTRUDE USING A BIOPSY/SCOPE. HER ILLNESS GETS CRITICAL: At this point we had no other choice but to depended on Morales, her hospital and the Criticalist who she employed. We told Morales we wanted her involved in Gertrude's care, not the Criticalist! Upon Morales' recommendation, we agreed to allow her Criticalist to do the endoscopy of Gertrude's digestive tract, searching, for what? we are not sure (because they did not tell us) and they also did NOT tell us that their biopsy / scope instruments used, could carry bacteria & could kill an animal, especially an animal whose immune system was already compromised and was as unstable as Gertrude's. After the endoscopy was completed, we took Gertrude home. A day after taking Gertrude home, this endoscopy caused Gertrude to further lapse into a critical state, due to their endoscopy instruments and the procedure causing a SERIOUS INFECTION to enter into Gertrude's digestive system. We took a picture of the horrible discharge that excreted from Gertrude and we sent the picture to Morales and we BEGGED her to find out what had gone wrong and to fix it. It was AFTER this picture arrived with our texts and emails of major concern, that that @_!*@! Sofia Morales, who received the picture of Gertrude's insides basically on the floor, COMPLETELY STOPPED responding to us! She told my husband to deal with her Criticalist, the same Vet who didn't know our dog's medical condition, her illnesses and who had used DIRTY INSTRUMENTS and possibly a botched biopsy on our baby girl, which ended up killing her! HOW DARE HER! They were heartless, insensitive, incompetent & they ABSOLUTELY COMMITED MALPRACTICE! Vet, Sofia Morales & her Criticalist basically Killed our Gertrude! & now, Morales wanted NOTHING to do with speaking to us. We even took Gertrude back to her hospital & we begged her to fix what she HAD DONE TO HER, but they told us to let her die! She would not. This horrible uncaring piece of crap, killed our dog, shut off all communication & told us to let her die! WITH NO APOLOGIES OR SYMPATHY WHAT SO EVER & SHE CHARGED US THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR THEIR INCOMPETANCY & FOR THIS HORRIBLE OPPORTUNITY! In fact Morales also REFUSED to help us get needed blood medication for Gertrude. We took Gertrude to another Vet for help & Barry Vet found the blood medication in her file. Morales refused to respond to us or to the Vet. Because of this, August 6, 2021, Gertrude died from ITP & an infection they gave her, on my husband's lap.

The office is very clean, well-lit and inviting. We were moved into a a room shortly after arrival and saw a veterinarian soon after.

We especially appreciated our surgeon, Dr Drygas, who took the time to explain everything to us about the surgery.

The characteristics that you should look for in a vet and veterinary clinic are the same ones you…read moreshould look for in a doctor and a doctors office: caring, empathy, support, knowledge, communication and the ability to meet with a professional both for routine and urgent care. North Florida Animal Hospital has all this and more in abundance. Our cats have been using their services for over 10 years. And each time we have been back for a scheduled checkup we feel like family who have come back for a visit. The reception and technical team are friendly and efficient. And the vets are knowledge, caring and personable. Dr Steele had cared for our cats for years, and it is clear that she not only loves her job, but that she also loves her patients. When one of our cats died a few years ago, her sadness and compassion were evident. Now that our second cat is having issues, at the age of 17, we have again turned to her for advice and assistance. She treats our cat like he was her own and has made sure that we know exactly what is happening. In fact, she is the one who has called to tell us lab results and she's taken the time to meet with us when we brought him in for overnight treatment. We trust her, the other vets, and the team with the most vulnerable members of our family. And they could not be in better hands. I'm so glad that they are the team who takes care of, and is now caring for, our pets.

Just not a good experience. The one that got her shots started hacking within a couple of days. I…read morecalled to talk to doctor because it was awful to watch - she was spitting up foam. I was told by reception they would pass info on to Dr. Todd, but told me it is probably a side effect of getting the Bordatella shot. Fast forward a few more days and it's getting worse. So I called again. First person who took the message said she had Tracheobronchitis (now I know what that is as I worked 4 years for a vet when I lived in Chicago) - aka Kennel Cough. Doc didn't call back so I called again - second girl I spoke to said I'd have to wait until end of day because doctor schedule was full. I just hung up - doctor called back and said it was a 'flu that was going around' - why lie? It cost me $90 for the meds. When I went to get the meds the girl told me that the 'kennel cough' would start being relieved within a couple days of starting meds. So that evening - the second dog started with the coughing and spitting up - had to pay another $90 for meds for her kennel cough. Here in lies the problem - both dogs are 4 years old - and have been boarded at other places many times. NEVER had kennel cough - or whatever NFAH wants to call it - but if you're going there prepare yourself for this. It's highly contagious and if they were to properly sterilize exam rooms, properly verify animal vaccines before boarding and properly sterilize kennels it could reduce incidents. My dogs have not been in or near any other animals since January. This was a direct cause of taking them to NFAH. I trusted them. Paid over $250 for shots, then another $180 for meds to get rid of the kennel cough they contracted at NFAH. Shame shame.

I cannot overstate how much I appreciate this vet office. My dog had teeth extracted today. I went…read morein and said, "Can we please, like, write in capital letters 'NO GABAPENTIN' on her file because she has a bad reaction?" And they did! No placating, no empty promises. She took a pen and wrote it. It was incredibly validating. Also, they accidentally overcharged me for something, and THEY called ME to alert me to this. I would've never noticed. They alerted me and credited my account. They're so honest! 10/10 recommend this practice. Couldn't ask for more.

WARNING: If you have any anxious breed or dog at the vet do NOT see Patrick Vickers (pictured)…read more Patrick Vickers shouldn't be a Vet is he's not willing to work with heavily sedated anxious dogs who deserves to not be dismissed by impatient and unwilling doctors. The solution is always more sedatives, but even when my dog was heavily sedated on two medications and could barely walk up the stairs all day, Patrick Vickers dismissed us. He heard one small bark form my heavily sedated muzzled dog who was just frightened and shivering in a corner. He refused to care for him or even attempt to walk anywhere near my dog for no real reason. The third time with little to no attempt. Please know I will do everything in my power to let people with pit bull mixes and anxious dogs know they should NOT see Patrick Vickers. Do not waste your time it has been months of constant attempts at getting basic routine care only for your dog to be discriminated against. Please learn and do better because the one who suffers the most will be your poor dog.
