Last week I arrived for my closing appointment only to wait, then wait some more. The closing agent told me she didn't yet have all the documents from my lender. This would've been helpful information to communicate to me and my agent before we drove across town for our afternoon appointment. As I started signing the stack of documents, it became clear to me the agent hadn't even glanced through my papers based on the questions she was asking me. It was disappointing and unprofessional. I'm spending thousands of dollars on a property and you're asking whether I'm escrowing?! She told me she still didn't have one document from my lender and all I would have to do is return the next day to sign it. She also said she would call me in the morning to verify.
The next morning, I didn't receive a phone call. I had to call my lender at the time I was planning to finish signing, only to have her spend an hour tracking down the problem. Once she confirmed things on Capital Title's side, I headed across town again. Only to discover I was going to have to resign everything! And I was now working with another agent. Lots of missed communication opportunities on Capital Title's side. Thankfully this agent was much more professional. I was told I would receive a call the next day confirming my property had funded since it was late in the day. Not surprisingly, I never received a phone call. Or an email. They had to mail me my keys as they forgot to give those to me at the closing. When my refund check arrived, it was less than I was originally told it would be. I had to call and find out why. The only apology I ever received was when, after inquiring why I was receiving less than I was told, I explained all the challenges I'd had associated with this closing. read more
