I got what I needed done well, but the communication was poor. I was told it would be done the same day but it wasn't done until the next evening. It wasn't a big deal for me because I didn't need my car but it was annoying to not know what to expect. The hours aren't always correct but using the phone number to set up an appointment works just fine. The work wasn't particularly cheap, but car stuff can be expensive so I don't think that reflects on the business. read more

I witnessed a woman get some gas and she put some drink cups in their garbage and the old man that was there started hollering at her to pick them out of their garbage can by the pumps. I got out of my vehicle and he told her do you think I want to dump your garbage? Do I go to your home and dump my garbage in your garbage can. I was sho led. I tried to say something because the kids in her car looked pretty scared and she was clearly as sho led as I was. He looked at me and said this isnt your business so you better shut up. I told the woman to roll her window up and ignore him. I left and did not get gas there and never will again. It's a lot different than the old owner. read more

My vehicle died so it was towed to Capital Services auto shop in downtown Juneau Alaska. Afterward, I noticed another dent on my hood, a rather large one. Loose paint on bare, non-rusted metal revealing its freshness. As this IS a beater, I can place the fresh dent aside, but I currently need the car to run, badly. That's why it was sent to the shop. Before the shop began working on it, I showed up in person. I explained the car's symptoms as; "my battery is not getting charged by my alternator". I was assured they would diagnose the issue. To my knowledge, they replaced the alternator. The symptoms returned within an hour of leaving the shop. I called the shop and explained what happened. They basically told me to go suck an egg. I'm giving one star because they won't allow people to enter a lesser one:)... read more

Hello again Juneau. I just wanted to again say that capital service is not a good place to take your vehicle. I am trying to post some pictures of the shitty work that was done on my axles. Work done by Travis and Greg. If anyone knows how I can post the pictures of the shitty work that was done on my truck, please let me know. They know that they are wrong. But instead, The owner of this shop is a thief. They do shitty work. Take your money, and when a problem occurs. They refuse to fix anything or return any money. I see why the owner can go on vacation for four months at a time. Then when you question them or are dissatisfied with their work. They try to become aggressive to shut you up. They tell you "when been to court hundreds of times for the same issue". It is a pattern of shitty work. The only good mechanic there I would say Is Bill. Very courteous, very kind, and very professional. I would not ever take my vehicle there again. I wouldn't care if my vehicle broke down right in front of their shop. I would never. I had a 40 hour drive from Bellingham all the way to Pennsylvania. I could have died. All I asked for was for them to pair for the damages. To pay for the axle. I spent over $1,200 dollars for what they charged me to replace my axles. The current repair is only $344.00 and they still refuse to pay for the damage. There is no way in the world. That 5 bolts could have backed out of the axle. And one bolt sheared away. I implore Alaska residents to never take their vehicles there. And then they try to pass the buck. Try blaming someone else. I went to Capital to have my tires changed to new rims. The first set was easy and fast so the 2 stars. The apprentice did the second set and forgot (or didn't know) to switch over the sensors. Since these were my winter tires I didn't find out immediately but when I did I was able to get three sensors back from the aluminum recycler. He broke one getting it off. Capital refused to put them on and accused me of lying. I brought in the other tires to prove my van is set up for sensors but this just set him off. Cursed me out in front of my son and called me every name in the book. The person later apologized but obviously I will never go back. I had good experiences in the past and I don't know if that mechanic is still there. If you look under unrecommended reviews at the end, you will see that it wasn't just me this happened to. read more

They guys are always so kind and helpful! My husband left work only to find one of his tires completely flat. We were able to pump it up only to find a huge screw embedded into the tire. We ran right over to Capital Service and the guys were able to fix it in less than 10 minutes! read more

Had good work done at an okay price. Very accessible. Expect to loose your vehicle for a day at least. They do make mistakes and the prices are steep on some things but they do make it right. Not all of the staff is knowledgeable so expect some clueless people. read more

Loyal customer for several years. Took my car in for oil change and tire repair. They did full service that I didn't request. Owner accused me of asking for work, but not wanting to pay for it. When I said that I came there all the time, but didn't need to, the manager threw my key at me and said no charge, then made some comment about me being happy now as he stormed off. This was completely uncalled and the reaction was extremely over the top. The guys that work the pumps are amazing and always take great care of me. It's too bad the management can't control himself. Had a Subaru that turned but wouldn't start. Did some diagnostics myself - figured out it had spark, narrowed it down to a fuel issue. Didn't have the tools to completely diagnose whether it was a fuse / relay / power or a problem with the pump itself, so I called up Capital based on recommendations from another shop I trusted. Called on a Thursday to make the appointment. They have their own tow service, but they said to call them tomorrow morning and have them tow it in at 7. They refused to take the car in before the scheduled shop appointment, and wouldn't take an appointment to pick up the car either. Okay, fine, my wife has to wake up at 6am anyway. We call them. The driver shows up too late to get our car in at the appointment time. Sure, whatever, he was still early enough to give my wife a ride to work on time, which is something they didn't have to do. 10~am rolls around and the service shop finally realizes they don't have the key to even try to start the car. The tow truck driver has it. For some reason, they tell my wife this and have her call, instead of calling the tow truck company themselves. I don't know when they finally got the key, but by the time my wife got off work (6pm), the only work they'd done on the car was to diagnose the problem - which given all of the information we provided them, shouldn't have taken all day. I call to check on the car Saturday afternoon. Turns out the mechanics keep separate hours from the gas station, and they neglected to tell me this. They didn't have any new information for me other than "the mechanic is coming in on his day off to look at your car". I call later that same day, I get a very confused gas attendant who doesn't know what's going on with the car at all. They ask if they can call back, so I let them go. 45 minutes after the time they said they'd call, my wife gives them another jingle, and gets a very rude man who "doesnt know nothin 'bout that" when she asked what was going on with our car. After some back and forth, apparently the mechanic was sick, came in and did some work on it, and then left without telling anyone what was going on with it. No work was done on the car on Sunday, even though all sources point to them being open on Sunday. Monday comes around, my wife shows up early in the morning. The car had started without them performing any work on it at all, so they took this as a sign to just give the car back to us without doing anything to it. Maybe something was frozen in the gas tank, and having it in their shop long enough to thaw it out solved the problem? Maybe there's something else seriously wrong with the car. Based on the information they gave us, I'll never know. The check engine light is still on and they didn't clear the code or tell us what code was still stored in the memory of the computer. The most charitable thing I can say about these guys is they didn't charge me for the "work" they performed, but I'm still out the towing fee - paid to the towing company they also own, of course. They advised the car was "not safe to drive" and offered to fix the other problem they just so happened to find. We declined, as they didn't even fix the original problem that led to us making an appointment with them. I suspect they routinely take on more work than they have time to do, and with how long it took them to diagnose what should've been a simple issue, I suspect they don't even have basic diagnostic equipment you can order off of amazon or buy at a local parts store off the shelf. I won't be trusting these guys for any serious car work, especially not after reading reviews from other websites about this business. read more

Seems like a truly honest mechanic. After getting a referral from Les Schwab (props to them too) for a suspension issue on my car that I already knew about, I decided to take the car to Capital Service when Greg offered to look at it for free. When the suspension issue had first been diagnosed by different shop in a different city last year, that shop had told me I should pay them $5000 to fix the suspension problem and an oil leak (car's got over 240K miles on it, of course it has an oil leak). Obviously I didn't follow the shady mechanic's recommendations... When Greg called me back with an estimate on parts and labor, he quoted me for far less than $5000 (and didn't try to tell me about all sorts of other problems with the car, real or imaginary). After giving me the quote, he also told me that the suspension issue in question wasn't a big deal at this time, and that it might not really be worth fixing on a car with as many miles on it as mine. I've never received such honest mechanical advice outside of a Car Talk episode, and since Greg did everything involved for free, I figured the least I can do is post a good review. read more

Terrible customer service. Very rude and argumentative. Gas boy especially. Never called after a simple follow up appointment so the vehicle sat there all day. Got in, drove around the block and it had the same problem . They said that's just how its gonna be. There are better places to go. read more

I took my car to Schwab every year to change over my tires and they treated me so poorly I sometime felt like crying. I had bought my winter tires from them and they were supposed to change them for free. They stopped after a few years AND made me wait hours-every single time. Capital service is all about customer service. I now take my car there and am so happy. read more

Excellent customer service! I always to go Capital Service for my auto repairs, oil change and general checkups. Greg, the GM of the shop always greets me and is very respectful. Recently they looked at my car and spent two days with the car and discovered that it was a problem with the copy of the key that I made and I needed my original key to keep my car running. They didn't charge me anything for it. read more
