I'm reviewing the Headquarters, because this is a weird issue that we've been dealing with. It happened more than once. When it comes to anything financial- related, it's really important, to stay on top of it, seriously. But man, why would the clerk on the other end verify the Mailing address? Only to have it go to our old address on record, which was identified as the Residential address? And this was an old address, we have not lived there in years, nine years to be exact. After the first loss, and the debit card floating around somewhere, got a letter stating that the debit card would be listed as "inactive". It had the last four digits on this letter. I am the Primary on this account, I use this account to pay all of the Bills, so I cannot have any issues with this account, none. I asked my husband to call on this issue. It wasn't my debit card, so I couldn't call on this matter. This happened twice. What the heck?! The reason behind my star rating, is that this Bank still accepts Zelle, my credit union does not support it any longer, the BillPay system is very good, and the APP is very good, very user-friendly. I love when technology works- so this is a very good platform. In addition the checking account has no fees, and the ATM's are highly accessible. And it is also connected to the Kohls credit card too. So, I can see all of the accounts on one page. It is convenient. read more

I was a long time Capital One credit card holder. I opened a checking account with a transfer from my bank account with another financial institution. I was the executor of an estate. I closed a bank account of the deceased person and had a cashier check payable to me. I deposited it into my recently opened Capital One checking account. Approximately 45 minutes after making the deposit, I received an e-mail from Capital One that read in part "One or more of your accounts have been restricted due to activity that is inconsistent with typical customer account usage, and we need to complete a review." The e-mail asked me to call. I immediately called and had a phone call that lasted approximately 43 minutes. I answered all questions asked of me about my background and the source of the funds. I was instructed to go to my local Cafe in the Los Angeles area with my driver's license and social security card. The following day I went to my local Capital One Cafe and showed the local representative my driver's license and my social security card. I was taken to a private room and the representative, and I called the 800 number again. The representative on the phone told me that my deposit was "under investigation" and that they wanted me to verify my identity at an actual Capital One bank. The closest Capital One bank was in Texas. I told them that was not going to go to Texas. I asked to speak with the person who was investigating my deposit. I was told that was not possible and they refused to tell me who was investigating my deposit. I was told that I would be notified of their decision. I waited for over two weeks without receiving an update. After about two weeks, I tried to access my account on-line. I was denied access. I called again and told the representative that I wanted to close my checking account. I was told that it was not possible because I was "under investigation". The representative told me that they would reach out to the person who was investigating me. They again would not give me that person's name. I called again the following week. I was instructed to return to my local Capital One Cafe to once again verify my identity with my driver's license and social security card. I did so for the second time. The local representative and I called the 800 number again. I was told once their investigator verified the source of the funds that I had deposited my bank account would likely be un-frozen. Later that day I received an e-mail that read in part "After further review, the decision to end our banking relationship with you has been reversed." My bank account was finally un-frozen. Capital One: Total Mission Failure Another day, another Charlie Foxtrot from Capital One. The rep's English was barely intelligible -- like trying to decode a broken radio transmission in the middle of a sandstorm. He refused to help, claiming my only listed phone number was "wrong" for verification. Roger that, genius. Then this joker forced me to send my ID and a utility bill like I was under interrogation. Said it could take 10 days to "verify" my account. Meanwhile, my wife's in Italy after her mother's recent death -- without access to the card. That's not just bad service, that's a full-blown humanitarian crisis caused by bureaucratic incompetence. These people operate like animals--no empathy, no accountability, no clue. Capital One's fraud alerts are constant false alarms, forcing me to CALL every damn time to confirm that, yes, I'm actually using my own card. I'm done with these clowns. I am filing this complaint against Capital One regarding its role in a fraudulent transaction and its failure to adequately assist in resolving the matter. An individual identified as NinaRose Cabutage used Chase Bank's payment-by-phone system to make a payment of $500.55 from the Chase business account of Winning Realty LLC to a Capital One credit card account. Neither Winning Realty LLC nor any of its owners, employees, or authorized signers know this individual, authorized this transaction, or have any relationship with Capital One. We immediately reported the fraud to Chase Bank, filed a police report, and fully cooperated with the investigation. Despite clear evidence that the funds originated from an unrelated business account, the payment was accepted and applied to a Capital One account belonging to someone else. What is particularly troubling is that Capital One apparently informed Chase that the payment was processed according to its agreement, even though Winning Realty LLC has no Capital One account, credit card, loan, or agreement of any kind. We fail to understand how a payment from an unrelated business account could be accepted and retained without raising concerns or triggering additional verification. We have requested documentation from Capital One confirming that Winning Realty LLC has no accounts or agreements with Capital One and seeking assistance in resolving this fraud. To date, we have not received a response. Capital One's lack of cooperation has made it significantly more difficult to recover funds stolen from our business. We are requesting that Capital One conduct a thorough investigation, provide the requested documentation, explain how this payment was accepted, and fully cooperate in resolving this fraudulent transaction. I dont remember the last time in wrote a review on anyone/ any company or business but I had such a bad experience with capital one customer service that I had to share. I had a simple question about my address and phone number that needed to be updated. The first person I spoke with the second she picked up sounded like she was upset and had an attitude and somehow couldn't help me with such an easy process. She finally said I can't help you almost yelling so I asked to Speak to her supervisor and she said well i do t think anyone can help you! the Second Lady was much nicer but I could hear the First Lady in the background talking to her. The Dispute Team along w/ communications are horrible. The Dispute Team ruled in favor of the merchant, American Van Lines for an approximately $3,000.- for no service provided. Recently hired American Van Lines as a direct carrier through the representative, Alex Felix, for an out of state move. Alex Felix made many promises & assured all would go well as we spoke in advance of the move on many occasions to clarify. Well, all went horribly wrong. A small white unlabeled truck showed up at our home, unexpectedly on a Sunday opposed to Saturday with 3 questionable men without any identification or uniforms stating they represented American Van Lines to move a 5 bedroom home. The three men were disheveled and reaked of smoke - tobacco & pot. The lead person immediately demanded an extra $2,000.- for services. He claimed it was for his satellite truck. We were never informed prior as any professional company would do for any additional charge above the agreed contract price. The lead person then, without our consent & knowledge, walked through my home taking pictures & talking w/ his manager on the phone. We then tried to reach American Van Lines & the representative, Alex Felix, only to find out the company was closed. Finally, through this steessful situation, we then reached an American Van Lines person, who agreed that the additional $2,000.- was owed above the agreed contract price. Needless to say, buying & selling a home, moving, are most stressful w/o the added issues that ensued as we debated in disagreement over the demanded money above the contract agreed price. The driver decided to cancel the move by leaving, driving off w/o anything being done & no service was provided. I did chase after the truck in desperation as we now only had a day to legally vacate our home for the new buyers. The truck driver drove off, leaving us in the lurch. Now, American Van Lines claims they showed up. So, American Van Lines believes they should be paid for no services rendered. American Van Lines has convinced CapitalOne Dispute Team members that they are in the right. Outrageous, how would any company practicing tactics as such w/ the lack of integrity, demand payment for no service provided & that a Dispute Team would rule in favor of a predatory company such as American Van Lines over a customer who did not receive what was paid for. CapitolOne put the charge back on my CC balance today. We are outraged & have no choice to further efforts to make sure we are not extorted. The Dispute Team should demand the American Van Lines recorded lines be released to them to prove Alex Felix made false promises & the tactics used were classic bait & switch w/ 1 major difference, nothing was received & I am being charged $3,000.- for nothing, no service! I've had a Capital One card for years without complaint. Today I found out they changed some of their policies. The changes are unhelpful and counter intuitive.. I had a terrible time getting information from a "supervisor " named Josie who had roosters crowing in the background. As the conversation went around the Merry Go Round I eventually realized that she was deliberately wasting my time. She would tell me that she couldn't help me or couldn't answer a question and then five or 10 minutes later she would answer it. Then when I challenged her on that she would get semantic. This has been the worst customer service experience I've ever had with a credit card company It all started on Monday, 5 May, when I tried to book a flight through Capital One Travel. I attempted 4-5 times, and each time I got the same error: "Something went wrong. Try a different date." Meanwhile, pending charges kept appearing on my Venture card. The system kept failing, but I was being charged anyway. Thankfully, those were eventually reversed. Frustrated, I called customer service and spoke with Lia--the only helpful person I encountered. She acknowledged the issue, said the Capital One travel portal was experiencing technical difficulties, and sincerely apologized. She even gave me a $100 credit for the inconvenience and offered three options: 1. Wait 24 hours and try again 2. Try again in 1-2 hours 3. Book directly through the airline and call back for the 5x miles benefit Since I needed to travel in 10 days and seats were limited, I chose option 3 and booked directly with United Airlines using my Venture card. I immediately called Capital One again and was told I needed to wait until the payment posted before they could apply the 5x miles. On 8 May, the charge posted--and I only got 2x miles. So I called back, and what followed was a complete disaster: * I was on the phone for 45 minutes * Transferred to four different representatives: Vince, Robert (supervisor), Caroline, and someone else * Had to repeat my story each time because no one had any notes or context * Even the supervisor Robert just transferred me again instead of resolving the issue * Caroline, the final rep, tried to transfer me again to a manager. I finally had enough and asked that she have the supervisor review the file and call me back. I dont expect to get that call Since no one was willing to honor the offer I was give, I am considering closing this account. I will use Amex who has always treated me with respect and resolved issues quickly. read more

In May, I was double charged $1,292.77 for an Airbnb reservation in Seattle. Airbnb was unable to resolve the duplicate charge and advised me to contact CapitalOne. After filing a dispute with CapitalOne, Airbnb cancelled my reservation, but the duplicate charge remained. When I disputed the second charge, no refund was issued and I am still being billed for a service I did not receive. CapitalOne has dragged their feet responding to me and now they're saying I'm out of the window to get my money back. I've been filing disputes on this since at least June 2025. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BANK! This is the worse banking institution for a personal account. First of all they have NO courtesy overdraft like most banking institutions. If you are over by $0.01, you are declined. They do NOT do partial release of check deposits like of banking institutions like Bank of America, Fourleaf FCU, etc. And even if you deposited a government issued check and call to get it verified for release in an emergency situation, you are in trouble if that check was deposited on a holiday or a Friday, because you still have to wait until Monday to get your funds. I had a Capital One checking account linked to a checking account from another bank. Last year, I closed that external account for security reasons and opened a new one. This year, I opened a Capital One credit card, which was automatically linked to the same online profile I previously used for checking. When it came time to make a payment on the new credit card, I saw a checking account already linked - so I used it without thinking. Unfortunately, it was the old, now-closed account. The payment was rejected. I immediately corrected the error and paid from my new, valid account. That's when the nightmare began. Capital One started asking for endless documentation - one request after another - with each review taking 10 business days. I complied with everything they asked for, quickly and fully. After two months of this back-and-forth, they abruptly closed my account with no explanation. Let me be clear: I've never missed a payment. I have perfect credit. And this is how Capital One treats responsible customers. They've permanently lost me as a customer. I made my credit card payment one day early this month on 14 September 2024, yet unfortunately, I hadn't updated my Capitol One account with my credit union checking account information. When I received notification from Capitol One that my payment was returned - not declined - (because the account I sent it from was closed - I closed it because my SS# was found on the dark web), I immediately updated my Capitol One account with my new credit union account information. Then I called Capitol One to re-make that same payment on the phone - all within about 20 minutes. Capitol One not only charged me a $25.00 late fee because the payment didn't go through until yesterday, 17 September 2024, (they didn't backtrack it to my original payment date of the 14th), but they wouldn't remove the late fee even though I clearly made the original payment early and resolved it immediately once I found out I hadn't added my new account information. So - I closed all my accounts with Capitol One. A company that charges late fees this way doesn't deserve my business. read more

We had some fraudulent activity on our checking account. No question that forged checks were cashed. It's been a month and our account has not been credited back for 5 of the 15 checks. I've had to call them 4 times, spent hours on hold while they researched. I've been told they are waiting for the bank that cashed the checks to respond. That's not the banking regulation. Capital One is primarily responsible to credit my account. I'm majorly aggravated to spend hours following up/calling/waiting on hold to get zero information on when I'll get my money. I have a complaint that makes me wonder whether profiling was at issue here. I went to the Capital One bank branch located at 13301 New Hampshire Ave (corner of Wolf Dr and New Hampshire in Silver Spring) this morning (12/18) around 9:45 am to deposit a check for someone else as a favor to them. The male cashier asked for my credit or debit card for identification. I told him that the check was for someone else and I was depositing as a favor to them. Our accounts are not linked. He did not know if I had an account with Capital One, but since the check and account were not mine, I asked him why he needed my identification via a credit or debit card? He said "to make his job easier". I asked how was my ID going to make his job easier since I was depositing a check for someone else whose account was not related to mine? He could not answer the question. I refused his request. He then proceeded to deposit the check, but his request for my ID left a bad impression and if a manager had been available, I would have made a formal complaint against this cashier. read more

Other than the one major annoyance which is that they will randomly shut off my credit card when I'm traveling because they're worried that somebody other than me is using it, I've had nothing but great experiences with Capital One. It's definitely the best I've ever had. They also have sexy advertisements as you can see, and Barbie finds the car to be sexy and has bought a lot of sexy stuff with it. For years.... credit increase requests kept being denied. Customer service is terrible. At one point, I got locked out of my online account, could not remember my password, and even uploaded my ID to prove who I was. Tried several ways to say "this is me" to customer service but still could not get into my account online- only through phone and paper mail. Ridiculous. I ended up closing all 3 accounts, and when Walmart switched to Capital One from Synchrony, I closed my Walmart card solely for the reason it was now managed by Capital One. I am sick to death of this bank! It receives negative 1! It was originally ING Bank way back in the early 2000's, but Capital One came in and swallowed it up. They completely ruined a good thing. I opened my ING account back then because of the fantastic interest rates they offered. That great interest rate and many of the good things ING offered are long gone, along with satisfactory customer service. It is almost impossible to get your issue timely and appropriately handled when calling in. Be prepared to spend most of the day if you call. The phone tree makes you jump through hoops of fire to get help. It diverts you down many rabbit holes to finally get to "a human", and that individual cannot help you. You are always transferred to someone else, "a specialist", but now you have to wait 20 minutes to an hour to speak to the specialist. Nine times out of 10, this person cannot help, and you are again transferred to someone else, yet another extended wait ensues, and you have now told your story at least 3 times. In the event you have a fraudulent issue, even if you request it not be done, Capital One will deposit the funds back into your account. They say they are investigating the case, but if it cannot be resolved, or the fraud team makes an independent decision not in favor of you, the defrauded customer, they will just withdraw the funds from the account, WITHOUT notice. This has led to Capital One reaping the overdraft fees they caused in the first place! Don't expect Capital One to honor 3rd party checks without a hassle, and complete disregard for their customers! If a 3rd party check is deposited, Capital One will hold it for a FULL 7 BUSINESS DAYS, just so they can squeeze every last penny of interest from it. It matters not if the funds are deposited and collected from the 3rd party entity immediately, the check will still be held until the very end of 7 full business days. Don't call customer service for explanation, you won't be told anything about it, except the funds are there, but you won't have access until they decide to grant it! This bank is run by thieves, and I will close these accounts as quickly as possible. My recommendation is for anyone to avoid this financial institution like the plague, and find a different place for your money. read more
