I was referred to Capital Good Fund by an online car search site, and I was skeptical at first. My credit and income isn't excellent, but I'm a decent, hardworking person and decided to give them a chance to help me. There were so many other outfits offering short-term financing, my email inbox was being bombarded with offers with very high interest rates in the fine print. I was really concerned about getting ripped off. I'm glad I was able to get a pre-approval letter from Capital Good Fund. I had all the documents, but sometimes their communication about specifically what they needed wasn't clear in the first instance, but they were patient until I was able to provide them with what they needed to secure my loan approval. It was a longer process than I expected; it took more than a few weeks after I signed a purchase agreement with a dealership to close the loan, but I am certain a hasty process to get financing through the dealership would have resulted in a financially damaging decision. I was concerned at the end of the process with Capital Good Fund that a "mistake" which increased the expected interest rate of the loan over what I expected from the pre-approval letter was going to break the deal. They apologized and corrected the error, but I'm not sure what they would have done had I signed the incorrect contract. In summary, get all your documents (paystubs, utility bills, license), get pre-approved, shop around to get a good price on the car you want, get your insurance binder with the lender as lienholder, make sure you demand a copy of the signed sales agreement, and most of all, don't make the mistake I did of handing over your trade and taking delivery of the car until the loan is closed, even if you have to wait a while, it will only make you nervous until you sign, and the dealer will likely hound you for delays you have no control over. It probably would have been better to tell the dealer I didn't need their "backup" financing, which will cost you thousands more if you end up needing it. If the dealer pressures you to do otherwise, buy your car somewhere else. Good luck, and thanks Capital Good Fund for helping me meet my goals. read more

Do not use this loan company as the interest rate is very high and they only help certain people with loans. Definitely use another company with employees that return phone calls and emails and where the interest rate is not absurdly high just so they can make a profit off people in need. read more

I mean, Capital GF gave me financing for a car when no one else would due to my credit. The interest rate is high, and I didn't have too many problems on my credit that I didn't get fixed quickly, but again, almost every other loan grantor was giving me a hard time, and CGF didn't. I can't say that their process was very timely (the dealership called me every day for three weeks asking when they were going to get paid), but as far as the other review purporting them to be a scam, I just don't see it. I mean, if your credit is completely destroyed or your income isn't so great, then they would be foolish to loan you money. Overall, a pretty good company. I can't speak for every situation, but they helped me out in a time of need and I've recommended my friends to them based on their no BS methods. I can't say that I'll run to them the next time that I need a loan if they can't offer me a lower interest rate, but if they can, they have my business for sure. read more

Consider somewhere else! This place is the biggest scam. I applied for a loan and was denied because I had two court judgement and overdraft my bank account once. FINE, I get why you wouldn't loan to me. Then I do their recommended credit building program. I worked hard on my own to get the judgments gone and didn't overdraft at all. This time I was denied because of a past due credit card payment after waiting almost a week and being ignored. Their site says 1-2 days for a decision but trust me it won't happen that quick. They advertise that they help less than perfect credit but I cleared up multiple problems including the ones they said denied me and still was denied. I think they only help good credit people. They advertise less than perfect to scam you into their "credit building program" for 10$ a month (some cost more) so they can make bank with having low income people paying a monthly fee for "reviewing your credit report with you".They only care about getting you into that program. read more

Good Fund began as a dream in a social entrepreneurship class at Brown University in the fall of 2008. Originally designed to combat environmental devastation and create economic opportunity for low-income Americans, Good Fund was once a student-led initiative. Now, we're one of the fastest growing microfinance institutions in the United States, serving residents of Rhode Island, Florida, and Delaware!

Meet the Business Owner: Andy P.

Andy Posner founded Capital Good Fund while getting his Master of Arts in Environmental Studies at Brown University, where he was studying financing mechanisms for clean energy. After reading Banker to the Poor by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the 'Father of Microfinance' and Founder of Grameen Bank, he quickly realized that equitable financial services could unlock the potential of the poor just as they could do the same for clean energy technologies. At the same time, as the financial crisis of 2008 began to unravel the economy and devastate low-income communities, Andy decided to take action. He created Capital Good Fund with an eye toward using financial services to tackle endemic poverty, first in Rhode Island, and then nationwide.

In February 2018 I attended the Money Management for Millennial event at the United Way. I was there to learn how to help a young family member who is going down the wrong road with credit and saving. I was so impressed with the staff of the Capital Good Fund, happy to be there on a Saturday to share their knowledge. There was an impromptu Q and A at the table and Vannessa, a financial coaching officer, was a wealth of information and did such a great job of fielding so many questions! Obviously, the organization does a wonderful job of training. I was inspired by her and the other presentations that day to learn more about the work of the Capital Good Fund. The staff biographies on the website show a caring, committed and well-educated group working hard to tackle poverty. I had a great experience, and Roxana was wonderful! I have less than perfect credit but have a bank account and consistent paychecks, fully able to pay back what I was loaned. Roxana expressed potential concerns with the approval process but was honest with me, made a few suggestions and I ended up approved anyways! It was an easy process, she communicated with any questions I had within 24 hours, and I was truly helped out. I recommend anyone at least giving this place a try! A local bank that denied my application referred me to Capital Good Fund. The staff here was friendly and pleasant to work with, especially Connie. The application process progressed relatively smoothly and quickly. I was able to close on the loan in 7-business days by completing the entire process online. My only issue was that I was not informed of all the documentation they needed me to upload to my application from the beginning. This caused a couple of delays. They are very courteous and professional. It's nice to know that there's a flexible, consumer-friendly alternative to payday lending (which I wouldn't do) or establishing an unsecured line of credit which is iffy for me even though I have good credit because banks normally prefer to lend to homeowners and use the home equity to secure or limit their perceived risk. The opportunity to build credit with such a minimal contribution is unprecedented. I don't know why people on Yelp! always complain the most... So far my experience with this non-profit organization is excellent. I was referred by CarGurus online and frankly, it was worthy! I apply for a loan and less than 48 hours I was pre-approved a week later driving my new vehicle! My loan specialist Cesar Salas and Capital good fund understood my situation and work with me until my final signature low payments standard interest rate! I referred several of my clients to CGF for emergency loans. All of them have had excellent results vs going to pay day lender, AND, their credit score improved because CGF reports to the credit bureaus. This company (non-profit) is a life-saver.
