The exterior of the building is worth seeing in its gothic style. There are several ticket options, such as just seeing the church and cloister or to see the tower. Although I purchased the all inclusive ticket, the stairway to the tower was filled with several screaming children and I didn't have the patience to wait for it to die down. Some of the statues and other adornments in the cathedral feel more like something you would see at a RenFaire, which is why I gave it the review that I did.

The main altar is covered in pink, grey, and white marble, very impressive. The cloister is attached and has a tower for an additional charge with an incredible view of the city.

The Chapel of Bones, which is part of this church and accompanying museum, has been on my list for quite a while and is in the historic city center that is a UNESCO World Heritage site (although the church and chapel are not specifically part of the site.) The chapel is more than just the bones. There are also some frescoes and other architectural features that are really worth seeing. Presumably because it was almost Christmas, there was a display of multiple nativity scenes in the museum.

One of the s girls was really scared with the bones and I comforted her (11 years old) and she calmed down thereafter. An estimated 5,000 corpses were exhumed to decorate the walls of the chapel. The bones, which came from ordinary people who were buried in Évora's medieval cemeteries, were arranged by the Franciscans in a variety of patterns. The church itself is huge, beautiful, Gothic style, with 12 open chapels.

Next to it is a former museum, now the Hotel Pousada dos Loios. We wandered past the Roman Temple and saw a park nearby, then visited the many interesting shops nearby afterwards.

It is a late gothic style architecture in this region of Alentejo, and served as the model for other churches that were built in the region. It has many robust construction features based on buttresses and many spires. The inside is showing signs of deterioration but overall it is in fair condition up to an including the walls, pews, and paintings. Entrance is feee and there are seasonal hours open to the public. This time of year it is open from 10:00 to noon, and then 1:00pm to 3 pm. If you're in the area it is worthwhile to take a look at this historical church.
