My wife took our rav4 in for a wheel bearing on left front and replace the AC compressor. The bill was 2,4026. The wheel bearing part alone they charged 405.00. Not even knowing if they put a OE toyota bearing in. Considering a toyota bearing is about 170.00. This mark up in parts is in the stratosphere. I understand a shop has big overhead costs but this is quite excessive. They also called and told her she needs both bearings in front and should do both. The veh. has 45,000 miles on it. Don't feel that they communicated very well about what kind of parts were installed if it was aftermarket or oe and didn't give any options for prices. Not sure there was very much experience with the service manager that handled the job. read more

I have been bringing my cars to Cape Auto for 20 years. They have always done a great job and we have never had any issues. They have squeezed us in before school for my high schooler when he needed an emergency repair. They are not always the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. They do a thorough inspection for prospective used car purchases as well. They produce a nice report with prices for fixing the issues. read more

It took you all of 2 minutes to get the code from your handheld OBD diagnostic tool. $89 dollars for an unnecessary compression test? AWESOME! $89 dollars to remove broken bolt and retap? Was it REALLY necessary to make sure the coil was mounted? I looked, the coil pack hadn't moved before I took it out and it stayed in place after I put in new plugs in cyl. 4,5,6. It didn't throw a code for cyl. 6(the one with the busted bolt) so I knew the coil pack wasn't going anywhere. So the final price? Replacing rear spark plugs and coil packs...replace lower right ball joint...above mentioned "tests" 1273.71 757 in labor and 476 in parts sleep well knowing you've taken some for a ride read more

One that will tell you what's wrong, or real preventative maintenance, but not try to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need. While helping a friend move, my pick up broke down. I live almost an hour away and these guys were recommended so I had my truck towed there after hours, filled out an envelope they provide with a drop box, put my key in it and called Monday morning. By 10 AM they had diagnosed the problem (bad fuel pump module) and said they could have it done that day. By 12:45 they called again and said it was ready. They had pointed out a couple of other things that need to be done but living as far away I just needed my truck back and they didn't try to sell me anything. When I picked my truck up at the end of the day the bill was less than they quoted! I'm very happy with the service and how it was handled especially with them knowing I probably won't be a return customer. If I lived in the area I would definitely use them and highly recommend them to anyone. I don't usually write a review but am very thankful. read more

Recently I took my SUV for a routine service from the auto dealership which I purchased the vechile from. They called me later that day to inform me that I needed both front and rear brakes. Having been a customer of Cape Auto for over 20 years, I called them for a second opinion. They were quick to get my car in and let me know that I only needed to replace my front brakes. Cape Auto estimated that I still had approximately 10,000 miles of life for my rear brakes. I drive about 12,000 miles per year so 10,000 more miles is almost a year for me. The also were able to save me $300.00 on my front brakes. Learning I could get about 10,000 more miles and saving $300.00 bucks was a good day for me. It is important that I mention a similar situation also happened to my husband. He has a different make and model SUV purchased from a different dealer than mine. He too, took his car in for a routine service about a year ago and they quoted him needing over 2,000 worth of work. When he took it to Cape Auto they said he only needed 25% of what the dealership had mentioned. This saved us huge amounts of money. Over the 20 years I have used them I have always been happy. I trust this company and it feels good knowing you will get a straight, honest anwer. They are local and have been around for decades. They retain their employess which is something I respect and benefit from. When employees stick around for many years they know how the business works and everything runs smoothly for me. Cape Auto was a fantastic shop to work with! My car was nearly undriveable, and when I took it to another well-known local shop that I'd been to before, I was told they couldn't get my car on the schedule for 5 days! Cape Auto was able to take my car the same day and run the diagnostic. Although they were unable to make the repair the same day, they gave me a loaner vehicle that I was able to keep over the weekend. The next business day, I received a call from Danielle stating that she'd done some research on my behalf and based on the diagnostic & further investigation, she discovered a technical service bulletin indicating an extended warranty on my car's year make/model specifically addressing the part needing replacement. I contacted the local dealership who would not honor the bulletin or any sort of extended warranty due to my VIN number not being part of the bulletin, and received the same information from GM when I contacted customer service. Cape Auto was able to make the repair for me the following day without a problem. I plan to file a claim with GM, and Cape Auto was happy to provide me with the part which they replaced, along with supporting documentation which will aid in my claim. I'm super happy with the service I received from Cape Auto and will definitely be returning for any future service! read more

A week later driving home from work the muffler fell apart...it was never properly installed...it was never welded ..just held together by a clamp...I had to spend 200 to get it fIxed..and miss a day of work...you should assume better for that amount ..I will never go to them again read more

told i had an oil leak, but i'm not losing oil i said, oh the oil pan is all rusted and going to fall off. After work was done, I had an oil leak (it was not sealed properly) I noticed oil was low and told them, got a pat on the heard and told i need a new brake line. I went elsewhere, the new mechanic diagnose and fix it. Also i did Not need a new brake line but i did need a power steering pump because someone put OIL in my power steering fluid! read more

I brought my 2017 Cadillac into Cape Auto for an Inspection, the car has 33,000 miles on it. This car passed all the tests but was failed and rejected for bad tires. The problem is the week before this car was at the dealership and I was told that the tires were good for another 7,500 hundred miles. When this car was failed the manager in the same breath tried to sell me new tires, I declined and went back to the dealership and was told the tires were fine. The second problem is that they did the same thing to my wife when she went for inspection and her Acurwas failed for bad tires and the dealership told her that her tires were fine too. There is a tread wear indicator on these tires and this also showed that these tires should have passed the inspection. This is not a business I would feel comfortable going to again, I need to have trust in a business and I don't think that we were given a trustworthy inspection. But I do think that their tire selling operation will be very successful. read more

Poor execution. Friendly people. Car was returned dirty with interior damage that cannot be repaired easily after a simple MA state inspection. There are cuts in the fabric which cover the support bar for the windshield/roof (very sad) from the inspector trying to remove the old sticker with the scraper. There is sticky glue from the old sticker surrounding the new sticker on the windshield, on the dash, the headliner and the front seat along with chalky white footprints and handprints - not a big deal if these were easily removable. They are not. Damaging a customer's property is never acceptable...no matter if it is for a $35 inspection or a material repair. This is the 2nd time I have had an inspection at this location. I am very disappointed and would not return for service. read more

worst communication ever. DO NOT GO HERE!! my company uses them all the time with no problem. however I got into an accident a month ago and theyre still not done fixing it! I got the car to them 2 days after the accident on jan 22nd and here it is feb 17th. insurance was direct pay to them and deductible was paid a week after I got the call saying it wasn't a total and they would fix it. this company is bull shit. save your aggravation and hassle- go elsewhere. We have been going to Cape Auto for years, great service and an honest repair shop. A few examples: - When I brought my car in for an oil change I asked them to change the wipers because of the windshield streaks. Picked the car up and they had wiped some tree sap off the windshield and said the wipers were fine. - Check Engine light thought to be a big deal was just a loose gas cap. - On our old car the dealership wanted over $400 for a repair that Cape Auto was able to do for less than $50 just by waiting until the engine was a little cooler. We now spend so much less money on repairs as the folks got to know us, they tell us when things are really needed and when not. They know most of the customers by first name and find a way to get things done. read more
