Just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy. The tour guide (Marco) was fabulous. The food and…read morehotels were top notch. Only one suggestion.... anyone with a persistent cough should be strongly encouraged to wear a mask on the bus. One person started the tour with an obvious cold and refused even cough drops when offered, and by the end had spread it to multiple people, including me. There is too much at stake for such a needless risk. Otherwise, a great tour.

Good place to stop to get information or use the bathroom facilities…read more I live in the state and I was there just for the restrooms but if you are a tourist wanting information it would be well worth stopping there. There is literature available and there are always workers there who are more than willing to answer any questions you may have. The worker who was on duty the day that I stopped by was very friendly. The restroom facilities are clean and I can tell that the people working there are good at keeping them well maintained as far as cleaning and keeping supplies stocked. I noticed that there was a vending machine available for anybody who is looking to buy a snack. There is plenty of parking in their parking lot. This visitors center is only open from 9 AM until 5 PM everyday and that is really the only thing that could use improvement here. Even if they would stay open until maybe 7 PM it would be great.

I don't know as much about John Greenleaf Whittier as I probably should and hoped to learn more…read more Luckily, this is a fairly quiet site without too much traffic. I've visited twice now and each experience was different. I should be clear that my first visit was great, which is why I went back. I was less happy with that second visit. It seems that, typically, visitors are led into the main room of the house in front of the fireplace (the same fireplace Whittier made famous in his poem "Snow-Bound") where the guide gives a (clearly unrehearsed) narrative of the life and work of the so-called Quaker poet. Certainly, Whittier was an interesting fellow, but the guide would do well to watch their time (and be aware of the body language of visitors). After the potentially tedious talk, the visitor is led through the rest of the house - totaling about four rooms. The last time I went, if my eyes lingered too long on anything, I was treated to a long diatribe about the hapless object of my attention. It was hard to enjoy. Ultimately, the experience depends on who is working that day. The experience should last no more than 45 minutes for such a small house museum. If it doesn't, the guide isn't doing a good job.

The guide for this house was very friendly and his knowledge of Whittier and his subsequent works were above and beyond what other guides knew of other homes in the surrounding area. Most of the furniture dates back to the original home when Whittier lived there. Also, they had the original book of poems that Whittier carried every day of his life! I loved it. The other houses that I have seen in the surrounding areas. The tour guide to this house, Gus, was a very nice man. Yes, he was a little long in the tour and also went on about his personal life, however he was an extremely passionate nice gentleman.

The kids loved her and she kept them entertained and engaged. It was also great to travel with other families so there were other kids to play with and it takes the pressure off being the entertainment for the kid all the time. All of our travel was arranged once we arrived in Ecuador. We never had to worry about where to eat, where to go, we just showed up when we were told to and the activities were set. Adults traveling alone may find a set itinerary somewhat confining, but with kids it is fantastic because they know what to expect and can be prepared.
