To me the clean lines, white leather upholstery and blue lighting made it feel cold and sterile, almost intimidating. Yet after a couple of Stolichnaya Vanil and Tonic cocktails served by a very friendly bartender, somehow the colour scheme felt calming and tranquil. Funny that. Once I was sat down, it only got better. This Cantonese restaurant and Dim Sum bar offers high quality cuisine and great service. We started off with a mixed plate of dim sum and a couple of steamed char siu bao (sweet buns filled with barbecue pork, and a personal favourite of mine) to share, which were practically inhaled by my table in seconds. For my main I ordered Pacifica sirloin steak, a twist on a regular sirloin as it's prepared in the wok with onions, straw mushrooms and oyster sauce. The meat was cooked perfectly medium rare as requested and for £12 was a healthy size and premium quality. Absolutely no complaints. My friend ordered the hot and spicy Sichuan mussels which were the talk of the table: served with crushed ginger, garlic and chilli sauce, they had some kick to them. Somehow, with cocktails and wine included, our bill came to less than £30 a head. You didn't see any of us complaining, it could have been twice the price and we'd still have been happy!

But I have to say that it did itself proud. The food was excellent - better than several restaurants I've been to in Chinatown recently (including the Little Yang Sing). A very well thought out banquet menu with great dim sum, lovely crispy duck, and a fantastic choice of mains. Really tasty food that just didn't stop arriving at the table! It was very good value for money, and all served in a very stylish setting. The only downsides were that it was a bit quiet and lacked atmosphere (but it was a Tuesday night, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt), and generally it was a bit cold (A TV fire will not do - please turn the heating on, it's winter!!) But it's definitely worth a try.

The food is very…read morenice, and there are a few dishes here that you probably wont get in many other places locally, and the prices are reasonable. Lots to choose from too. Service is always efficient and friendly its a family and child friendly place if you're planning on taking the children along, and the atmosphere is always lively. A wide range of sushi and vegetarian options available to choose from too and well worth a visit, either at lunchtimes or in the evenings.

Main courses were standard but tasted freshly cooked or at least piping hot. I didn't have that mucky feeling afterwards that you sometimes get from cheap Chinese food. We were definitely on at least three stars then right at the end, along with some fortune cookies, we were given two complimentary glasses of Bailey's. Both the boyf and I really appreciate a small business working hard to please their customers (me especially having been brought up in one) so we're definitely fans now and this is likely to become our local for Chinese food.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit disappointed after last night's visit. The first time I visited the China Lounge, it was still pretty new and everything about it was very good. But it seems that like so many places, the standards start to drop after a while. That's not to say it was a bad experience; just not quite what it once was. We arrived at 7.30 on a Saturday night without having booked a table. The restaurant was already half full and a few people were waiting to collect their takeaways. Within five minutes we were seated and had ordered a bottle of wine from their reasonable selection. After ordering our food, the first course was served quickly - aromatic crispy duck which was delicious as always. Unfortunately, after the first course the service went downhill and we waited around fifty minutes for the main course dishes to arrive. When they did, I thought they were reasonable but nowhere near the standard they once were. Sweet and sour king prawns were amazing here a couple of years ago - now they seem just like those from any Chinese takeaway, with "doughy" batter that should be much crispier. I would still recommend their sizzling fillet steak in satay sauce though, or their crispy lemon chicken as they are still delicious. Despite ordering rice for two people only one portion arrived with the main course so I ordered more. Twenty minutes later it still had not arrived so I had to ask the waiter again. He had forgotten. Throughout the whole evening the temperature in the restaurant was uncomfortably warm - so much so all the windows were fully steamed up! They don't seem to have air-conditioning or any windows that open. The China Lounge is not the cheapest restaurant around, and for the prices they charge the quality of the food and the service should be distinctly higher. Would I eat here again? Probably - I just hope the next visit is better - and that they let me back in after this review! :)

The China Lounge serves fantastic chinese food thats of great quality and very tasty. The staff are very polite and the service is good. The China Lounge isn't a cheap option but you definately get what you pay for. There is a good choice of drinks, even the house wines better than the usual. Then if you have the room to top off the perfect meal and due to the close location no doubt The China Lounge serves Slatterys puddings! Perfect!!!

When did up splitting various entrées of lamb, chicken, veggies with peppers and onions, multiple choices of rice, which were all fantastic, just a plethora of food that filled us to the brim, and they even gave us plenty to take to a colleague who is stuck in meetings.
