This weekend I took my mom for a mother daughter date and she's been wanting to come here. Since it was Easter weekend, the festivities were on and poppin! The kids were going down the huge slide with the potato sacks to several food trucks. We came for U-Pick sunflowers and strawberries. The strawberries this time around were wayyyyyy more ripe and vibrant than a month ago. Boy, was I so happy that we came when we did. My mom went crazy picking so many berries. Then we walked out into the field which the sunflowers were located. The sunflowers were so beautiful and had these large stems. They do give you scissors to cut them. The food trucks had a great variety from American to Jamaican. The food stand was even open and we tried their hand pressed lemonades and macaroons. I love this place and highly recommend making the trip out here when they are open!

The farm is huge with plenty of space to pick berries, and the berries are so fresh and delicious! They also have a cute little farm store that was so fun to look around in, and plenty of snacks, meals, and drinks to try! I got a strawberry milkshake, and it was genuinely the best milkshake I've ever had. I definitely recommend this place for a date, a hangout with friends, or even a little solo trip. It's a very relaxing activity and is a great way to get some sunlight.

We hoped they would be open and to our surprise they were open and had tons of Blueberries and not many people. They charge $5 per pound of Blueberries or $25 for the full bucket which holds 5 to 6 pounds. If you decide you do not want to pick the blueberries yourself they charge 1 pound bags for $6. In order to get to this farm you either have to take Wiliston Rd or 441. You make your way down a dirt road and you keep driving. Thankfully they had signs that said U-Pick Blueberries which made it much easier to find. When at the farm they have several acres of Blueberries. We started picking and sampling at the same time. It was great to try the different types of blueberries they had. Every 10 minutes they hard what sounded like a gun shot go off to scare the birds away. They also had a bull horn to scare the birds as well. It was pretty epic. Overall I had a wonderful time picking the blueberries. It was fun and it was a great way to social distance from others. Spent 2 hours leisurely picking. So much fun and so relaxing as you gingerly touch and look at fruit opportunities to pick. First time and will be back with each season. The website informs pickers of the possibilities based on the season. Farm is maintained and so inviting! A water hand washing station on site. TRAVIS, a family member of the 105 year old farm property is onsite to explain all. He just won a national award as Community College Professor of The Year teaching agriculture. What a great time at a U PICK you own farm just outside of downtown Citra! I found them on…read moreFacebook and decided to check them out because they stated "the vines are heavy with fruit and the picking is easy". They were telling the truth. No pesticides allows you to try it directly from the vine. The owners are so nice and informative. I didn't know what to expect but she waved me in and gave me the run down. Once I had enough blackberries to make a big crumble I headed back to the check out. After that I headed back out with a cup to pick the most amazing flowers. She challenged me to fill the entire cup and it was $10 for as many as I could fit it it. These flowers were just gorgeous as you can see from the pictures. I also grabbed a bag of okra after asking how to make fried okra. She happily told me how she makes hers with an egg wash, cornmeal, flour, garlic salt, onion salt and pepper. Such a friendly place for everyone. I highly recommend!

We're so lucky that there's so many fruit & vegetable farms in this area. Not all of them are open…read moreto the public though but Blueberry Downs is. They've only been open 2 years and yet they're the talk of the town. You'll find the largest blueberries you've ever seen. Picking is easy with wide clear rows but it's hot out so please be prepared. Prices are reasonable and depending on the growth of the berries they may only be open a few days per week to allow for a plentiful crop. Sometimes you may get lucky and see someone selling local plants there!

They were close to closing yet they never made me feel rushed. They continued to explain where all the meat, eggs, shrimp etc came from!!
