Also, their name is a misnomer. Many of the posted cats are not even remotely "feral" rescues. My last conversation with an employee/volunteer went south when I started asking too many questions and trying to set up a meet appointment. Lady was very rude & evasive. I point-blank asked if the cat had already been adopted. She would not give me an answer or set up a time to meet. I found my dealings with this org very odd especially for a rescue non-profit. These people are doing a really tough job. Being an open intake shelter brings so many challenges…read morebut compared to the local open intake shelter in my original hometown of Miami-Dade County, Fulton County Animal Services is doing the best they can for the animals that end up in their facility. I was thinking of adding another dog to my little zoo at home and started surfing their website. I love how most of the dogs on their site have high quality pictures and some of them are even adorned with cute bandanas or accessories. This shows me that they truly care and are doing their best to show the dogs in a good light to improve their chances of finding their human. I saw several dogs of interest online that I easily saved to my favorites on the account I created. Then I went to the shelter a few days later to meet some of those dogs in person. When I got there, I checked in at the front where they explained where to go to see the dogs and how the process works. I looked at every dog there that day and narrowed it down to 2 candidates even though it was love at first sight with one of them. I knew Titan was the one but wanted to see both dogs out of their cages to be sure. Both dogs were beautiful but Titan was perfect for me. However, it was my existing dog, Rex, who had to have the final say. They suggested to me that I could do a trial adoption of 30 days to see if he is a good fit for my household, which was exactly what I needed to feel more secure about the decision to take him home without knowing if Rex would approve or how Titan would react to my cats. I am happy to report that Titan (now Kane) is officially in his forever home. He won Rex over and though the cats and my other older rescue dog are not thrilled about the new addition, Kane has been great about ignoring them and not causing any trouble. I had 30 days to decide but went online after about 4 days to pay the very reasonable adoption fee of $85 and finalize the adoption. Kane was neutered and microchipped before I picked him up. They gave him to me with a ziploc bag of the food he had been eating, a stuffed bear, antibiotics for the surgery recovery, some pills for a skin condition he has, one dose of his heartworm/tick/flea medication, and a who rescued who magnet for my car. I have adopted from shelters before and never received so many things with my dog, so that was a nice touch. The work they do at this shelter is heart wrenching. It is so hard to care for so many animals and even harder to find them quality homes where they will have a chance for a good life. I appreciate the entire staff at this facility and the hard work they put in to help the animals in their care. For the general public, I hope that you will spay and neuter your pets to help curb the overpopulation problem and that when you are ready to add a furbaby to your home that you adopt rather than shop because you will literally be saving a life. If you want to help but aren't sure if you can commit long term, consider fostering, trial adoptions, or even taking a dog out for the weekend only just to give it some relief. I encourage you to visit the shelter and meet some of the dogs in person. There are so many beautiful souls there that need you and you may just find that you need them too.

I would give zero stars if I could…read more I've never written a poor review and have always admired the hard work required to run a small business. However, based on a recent experience, I feel compelled to share this story in hopes that it doesn't happen again... Yesterday my golden retriever Leo was groomed by The Waggin Wagon (a local groomer here in ATL). He has been seeing this groomer since April 2020. He had some knots on his chest and belly that I showed the groomer - she expressed she may need to shave down those areas. I agreed that this was fine. Hours later when she brought him to the door, the result was jarring. He was shaved completely bald aside from his head and tail (pics to come...) I immediately called the owner of the salon, Erin. I shared with her that in my opinion, the pet owner should always be asked permission to make such a drastic change as a full shave. (Not to mention, this was a MOBILE grooming service because of Covid and they were right outside our home.) I also requested a full refund- I was devastated and so unhappy with their service. Today, she called me back to tell me they will not be refunding me since the groomer "did what she had to do" to get the knots and matting out. I told her the groomer should have discussed this with me, and that I would have 100% not proceeded with shaving him. I would've consulted another groomer for a second opinion. What happened next was unbelievable... In order to justify her company's poor decision to fully shave a golden retriever, she claimed that I was a "cruel, inhumane pet owner" for letting his hair get so tangled. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Leo (and all animals), and I was SO upset that she made this accusation. I couldn't believe it. I ended up calling our vet who has loved and cared for Leo for years to get his opinion on how to care for his skin, and he was just as upset by this as I was. I've never had a worse encounter with a small business owner, and when I told her I would be posting a negative review her response was "go ahead, I'd love to see how influential you are." This is just NOT okay. Please be careful who you trust your pets with, and if you are in the area, PLEASE reconsider not using this grooming service. No one who owns a business should treat a paying customer the way I was treated. Period.

GRRA is quite good overall. They have some wonderful dogs and most of the fosters and…read moreemployees/volunteers are quite friendly. The process is lengthy, with an application, a home visit, the meet-and-greet events, etc. They treated us much better than another local rescue place. Keep in mind that they have a preference for families where at least one person works from home, stays at home, or lives close by so they can come by regularly. We did not check those boxes since we both work full-time (though we did have a dog door for them to go in and out), so were not deemed a fit for certain dogs there. However, other fosters were definitely interested in us. Their dogs are truly taken care of and they do great work. Plenty of others interested in the dogs though, so make sure you attend the events. We ended up finding an amazing GR elsewhere who was a great fit for us but GRRA is a quality place and they love their dogs. They treat applicants better than some similar places as well. So I'd try a place like GRRA or even a humane breeder with healthy dogs if you want a GR specifically, and also consider rescue places, Humane Society, etc. if you are open to other breeds (and GRRA sometimes has doodles, mixed breeds, etc.)

Every dog has the most thorough vet care before they can be adopted. GRRA is the best.
