The crew working hard to make your breakfast perfect
Diane P.

I love the candy dance, I've been going every year since I moved to Reno in 1989. I use to go with all my girl friends. Then my husband went and we've gone every year for 14 years together. We always park at the Peddler's parking lot even if the guy is flagging you into the blue lot. Just tell him no! We usually start with my favorite place the Metal Pedals located on the far left up the hill from where the van drops you off. Adam and his wife are awesome! My front yard is his metal flowers, just gorgeous! My husband says you don't need another one, oh yes I do to support my friends from Idaho. Next stop to have the famous breakfast sandwich, but the booth is gone so sad. Although we did find the best breakfast served by the Douglas Masons it was only $10. The pancakes came right off the grill along with the tasty scrambled eggs and two little piggies (sausage links) with coffee. No OJ. I bought my mimosa with me! They even had a nice place for you to sit down inside with all the fixins. Now, it's shop till you drop before having the best rum runner at the Genoa Bar! I love sitting out on the picnic tables and making new friends or seeing your friends you haven't seen forever. Also, we stop and get the sausage, peppers & marinara sauce from the Fire Department . It's a tradition, although they moved from their normal spot to the left & up the hill. We always buy beer next to their booth! I have the same glass that I purchased 14 years ago to get my annual refill, now $4 use to be $2. It was a beautiful day and a few less people than normal. See you next year!!

Great place! Lots of vendors and lots of food. Come early or you will be waiting in line. So many people come to this event We get the yard art from this vendor from Oregon. Check it out, the weather is great this time of year too

Went on Saturday morning about 11 and it was packed! Still love this festival but wish they had more holiday crafts for sale like they used to. The fire department Bloody Mary's are still the best! Attended the dinner dance and it was a lot of fun. The prime rib, au gratin potatoes and Brussels sprouts they served were really good and we sat at a table with some great people.

This is one of my favorite events and it's just right down the street. It attracts a lot of people so I suggest going as early as you can. I love the town hall candy they do an excellent job at organizing the candy sales. They will sell out so don't wait until the end! All of the vendors have great products. This year I was a bit disappointed there were so many of the same types of booths. I'm pretty sure I saw 10 different booths selling jerky. The food section also has a great selection although we prefer to go early, leave early, and go to lunch at a local restaurant. It was fascinating to learn the history of the candy dance this year and talk to some people that had last attended 40 years ago and explain how much it has changed!

We had some visitors in town and were taking them to see some of the local places and events. We knew the Candy Dance was occurring during their visit and we decided to take them there. 100 years ago, the Candy Dance was started to install street lights for the town of Genoa. Yes, this was the 100th Candy Dance. It has now evolved into a large craft fair with lots of food vendors. We even thought it was much bigger than we experienced a few years ago. For us, an experience at the Genoa bar is always really cool. So much history! Hoping to make it easier to get in and out, we took Jacks Valley road to get to Genoa. In the end, it seemed much easier. We parked at the cemetery for $5 and could take the shuttle for about 1/2 mile or walk into the Candy Dance. Overall, it was another cool experience in Genoa. We love this event!

Get here early as there is tons to see! Tons of food and crafts...be ready to walk at least a few miles. My favorites the Yerington Bakery and Carson City BBQ for the foods. As for the crafts there is something for everyone. Perfect fall weather to be walking around enjoying beautiful Genoa NV!

My first time at the Candy Dance and I had a blast. Even with the rain. I believe we will be back! :)

I wanted to make a Yelp event from this info even though I do not have any pets myself. The office is the national headquarters for all their outlets in the U.S. It is on the second floor of an office building on West King Street, called King 400, in Carson City. Most of the offices here are state offices, such as the Department of Agriculture. As I entered the suite, there was a large open area with offices around it. There was a small customer sitting area right at the entrance and a display case. A woman there walking around seemed to ignore me, but I think she was just a volunteer. A few moments later, the main employee (director?) came out. She explained what they do and the programs they have. They supply food pantries all over the country with free pet food and supplies. There is a map on the wall with pins that mark each of their locations. And the corporate office is here, in Carson City! How lucky am I to be living here?! :-) (They do not do pet adoptions, by the way.) Anyway, the for the event, the first 100 pets (not people) in line whose owners are homeless or low income will get the following for free at the Free Pet Wellness Clinic: pet exam by veterinarian pet vaccinations dog license pet nail trimming voucher for free spaying or neutering (limited supply) pet food pet supplies People start lining up early at 8 AM I was told, so you better get there early of you are interested! Cats must be crated or in a box, and dogs must be on a leash. The following are donating their services: Sierra Veterinary Hospital Timberline Animal Hospital Nevada Humane Society Carson City Crazy Cat Grooming and Canine Academy The employee asked me not to put this as a Yelp event, since she feared this would attract too many people. There are posters for the event, however, at various locations in the city, such as FISH, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in the Yelp events I post anyway, so I am not sure if it matters. If people are low income or homeless why not get the word out? So I thanked her as I left, and she said I could get more information about what they do on their website: https://www.petsofthehomeless.org/.

I could easily say that this 5-star review is also for the organization itself since they've been doing so much great work for decades to protect and clean up the lake, educate the community, and support pretty much every positive environmental effort and initiative that affects Lake Tahoe! But back to the new shop & headquarters that just opened 3-4 months ago. My husband & I dropped by recently to check it out and were very impressed by their beautiful new space! Not just a store, but also an education & training space. They even have a beautiful outdoor space set up like a small amphitheater and learning/gathering space. Inside the store you'll find all the great "Keep Tahoe Blue" merchandise that they also sell via their online store. From shirts to hats to gifts to glasswares to various home goods, and more! They even have their own branded yoga mat and coffee beans! We picked up a new snowboarding neck gaiter and a few gifts, including the Lake Tahoe themed Monopoly board game! Proceeds all go to support the nonprofit of course, so it's even better knowing that you're supporting such a great cause and giving back to Lake Tahoe. Definitely worth a visit for locals and visitors alike! Visitors: you'll find some unique souvenirs here too! Let's all help keep Tahoe blue and beautiful!

This was a cute little place to stop at for a few minutes though!

They have small parking a lot (no handicapped spaces, by the way), which was full because one car was not parked correctly and took up two spaces. I saw someone else access the place by pulling by the center using the school parking, but there is a sign it is only for school personnel during the day, so I was weary of that. Instead, I parked on the street, which was a little difficult, since there are like literally 10 feet piles of snow still in South Lake Tahoe, even though it was April! WTF? I used to live in the snow-belt of upstate New York, and by April there was only a little bit of snow. When I went in, the office was empty, as they were having a meeting in the backroom. A lower-ranking worker, who was outside bringing in the pallets of food, was nice, telling me to go to the back room, and also apologizing for blocking the entry way. He also sneaked me extra bread at the end. The other employee who came out of the meeting was super friendly, and showed me what to do. It is very informal there. There was no line. You just walk in and you can take one pre-made bag of commodities, and whatever bread and other items they have on the shelf by the kitchen. There are no forms or verifications required. Their website said they only had USDA commodities (food) beginning on the second Friday of the month until they run out, but I guess they must have changed that. In the office there were all kinds of brochures about other services offered in the community. This location also offers English language classes, parenting classes, and a clothing bank, and runs a used book store called The Bookworks, at the mall in South Lake Tahoe. My review of the book store is here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-bookworks-south-lake-tahoe?hrid=h23ePkYKh3Yz-GQmJnytEg&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct). I will give them four stars, only due to the parking situation.
