This was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I stayed here on a long term stay for work and could not get my basic needs met. The customer service here is bare minimum and the hotel manager lives on the 4th floor with a dog. During my stay I repeatedly had to ask house keeping to please clean my room and they would regularly give an attitude and most days would not clean the room. During a 45 day stay, my room was cleaned 3 times. My bed sheets were only changed once. I asked for a new shower curtain because mine was molded at the bottom and received one with gum stuck to it. My towels were replaced several time with dirty/stained towels, and the hallways were always filthy (not vacuumed) and often smelled terrible due to the trash (see photos) left in the hallways for days at a time. I took several photos on a week by week basis to show the level of care that there is NOT at this hotel. There were several other coworkers of mine who experienced the exact same and countless times went to management to make requests for cleaning and other basic needs and were often made to come down and "pick up" what we needed or told they would take care of it but no action was ever taken. The rooms are dirty. The laundry facilities are dirty they don't keep up. The beds are not comfortable it's a cheap mattress. The doors don't go all the way down which leaves a small crack for creatures to come thru. I would not recommend this place. read more

I evacuated to the Candlewood Suites in Cotulla when Harvey hit as I'm from Port Aransas. As an employee of another hotel I used my employee rate to get this room. I specifically chose this hotel because it was pet friendly and had the lowest pet deposit, $25 if your stay is 1-6 days, and $50 if your stay goes over 7 days (that's on their website) but upon arriving the Thursday before Harvey, after packing what I could and praying the rest didn't get blown away, I was told their site was inaccurate and that it was $25 for small dogs (quantified as a dog you could carry through the lobby) and anything larger was considered a large dog and that would be $50 PLUS a $25 incidental hold. Now, I originally only made my reservation 3 days, but due to the damages my island town received I made another reservation for three more nights. Everything was decent for the most part, save the housekeepers walking around in spaghetti strap tank tops and leggings, a front desk agent that would excuse herself to go eat when there are guests at the counter. After we left, it turns out my sister left something hanging in the closest. I faxed over a shipping label after talking to the desk and finding out they had found my left items. The next night I called to make sure someone had seen it and to also talk about refunding the pet deposit. I wouldn't have asked, but since I am an employee of an IHG property, like this one, I was able to see where IHG told all of their hotels to waive pet deposits due to the hurricanes. The Front Desk agent I spoke with was rude. When I asked if anyone had found my shipping label she said she would look for it and call me back, that never happened. She also said she wouldn't refund my pet deposit. I asked to speak with the general manager and she took down my cellphone number. By noon the next day I still had received no word from the General Manager so I called them. I talked to the Front Desk first, asked about my shipping label, which she was able to find with a slight problem but when I asked to the general manager I was told she was "at the bank" but the Front Desk assured me she would call me when she got back. About an hour later the front desk called me and said the General Manager was in a meeting but she would not be returning the pet deposit because the email from IHG was issued after I had already checked in. I am a Hurricane Harvey survivor. Still living out of hotels. I chose this hotel so that I didn't have to ride out a hurricane with my dog on an island. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone. I will pass the message to all of my coworkers and friends in the hospitality business as well. DO NOT STAY AT THE CANDLWOOOD IN COTULLA TEXAS! read more
