What a fun little lunch venue! I was taking a tour of the Niagara falls area and my friend suggested we go eat here. I'm so glad we did because this is really a great place to stop. It's cool because not only do you have the inside of the restaurant to eat in, they also have an across the street seating which is serviced by a waitress. That is a great feature for those who want to sit alongside of the canal and enjoy the outdoors. We were seated right away, and our waitress came up and took our orders. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich and I opted for something a little healthier, which would be a strawberry salad with grilled chicken. It also came with a vinaigrette. The salad was absolutely lovely, the chicken was cooked to perfection, was moist and juicy, and that vinaigrette sauce combined with the strawberries was absolutely to die for. Overall. It was one of the better dining experiences I've had and I would highly recommend this place. Bottom line? If you are out and about down by the canal, you should do yourself a favor and check out canalside. It is definitely worth your time and a perfect way to relax, cool off, and sort out the rest of your day. read more

Perfectly good place to park it in Port Colborne. We were there to visit my friend who lives in the area, and as well I had been to this restaurant when visiting my ex who was on a bicycle trip in the area a few years prior. The best part is the view of the canal from the patio or from the front of the restaurant. When a boat goes by the lift bridge goes up, it is something very neat to see. There is also an Airbnb upstairs so you can have dinner here and head up to your room, all without losing that cool view. read more

Our visit to Port Colborne included a 2 night stay at the Canalside Inn and restaurant. We booked directly from their website and received a 5% discount. The hotel is pet friendly. We stayed in suite 2 which is above the restaurant. This hotel is not handicap accessible due to very steep staircase. There's free parking in the back of the restaurant. The suite is very spacious. There is a full kitchen with range, microwave and refrigerator. There are pots, pans, plates, mugs and cutlery if you plan to cook. The drip coffee maker was broken and unfortunately we found out the hard way when the coffee was not dripping into the coffee carafe. We also encountered an issue with the wall outlet in the kitchen. We could not reset the fuse. There are 2 tvs one 50 inch in the main room and a small 32 inch in the separate bedroom. There's a pull out sofabed for additional sleeping space. The decor in the room is more rustic and farmhouse feel. There's portable air conditioner that keeps the suite cool. We tried the restaurant downstairs. The fish n chips were inconsistent. Some of my guests said the fish was not fried properly. I didn't notice any issue with mine. They use basa instead of haddock or halibut. The calamari was ok. The crab rangoon was good. My nephew ordered the steak special of the day. He cleaned the plate so I guess it was good. The Mongolian beef bowl was better than expected for a pub restaurant. Overall, our stay was comfortable and we liked the location right by the canal and beautiful views of cruise ships crossing the canal. If you are looking for a family size suite then definitely give this place a look. read more

We were blown away by the sweet chili Thai chicken wrap. Sitting outside and being able to watch the drawbridge and the boats going by on the canal was a fun experience. I wanted to do a trip to Port Colborne to see the area during this festive time and we had parked just outside this charming restaurant with a nautical theme and decided to get a bite to eat here. I loved that they were decorated for the christmas season and was even more impressed with the signature dishes they create here * BIG FLAVOUR* by far our most fav dish was the Prosciutto Rollatini, it def is a must try dish for anyone who visits. we also enjoyed their Alaskan Walleye Wings ( very fresh & tasty ) and the Lake Earie Perch with the Signature Mushroom soup that had a very Earthy and savoury flavour and unexpected but enjoyable texture that reminded me of almost a mushroom salsa in a mushroom broth the texture was visually lovely to see and the flavour very enjoyable; if your a mushroom lover I think you will enjoy this soup if its on the days menu. This is our favorite restaurant! The service, the owner, Greg and the chefs. The food, which by the way, they accommodate allergies and can make almost anything gluten free and it is outstanding. Think of walking into a restaurant and thinking you're on the set of the TV show, Cheers. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and the staff hustle to make each table happy. Every second Saturday of the month is "name that tune". Table group participation. A friendly group atmosphere, where you cheer on everyone. A small dance, in place if you earn points. So fun. Even for the shy folks in your group. Thank you to Greg and company for all your amazing service! We will be back for the next round over and over. We travel over an hour in the fall and its worth every step of the way. Also, Greg runs a beautiful B and B above the restaurant. I hear they fill up fast. My husband and I haven't been to Port Colborne and this place has the best reviews. The menu sounded fantastic! Unfortunately it didn't live up to it. They were slammed and we didn't even mind waiting 30 minutes for an appetizer and 1 hour for lunch at 2:30 on a Sunday. All in all, the food was horrible! To start we had the lobster portobello "to share." It was 1 portobello, it was all grey. No seasoning or flavor and the lobster tasted like it was a day old or so. For mains, we both had the lobster roll and sweet potato fries. The roll was not toasted and didn't even have butter on it. It was the rolls you normally get to start a meal. The lobster tasted like it was days old. Again no seasoning. It was small and chewy. The fries were fried ok but again no seasoning at all. This was probably the worst food I've had while in Canada. It was hard to take down. The service was ok. I understand they were slammed. I wish we would have tried another place. We will not be coming back. read more

Had a late lunch here during a business trip. Had the special, turkey and bacon club on a ciabatta with a bowl of clam chowder. The club was sub par with the thinnest slice of tomato and lettuce. The ciabatta bun was the biggest letdown, more a kin to a whole wheat hotdog bun than a nice crusty ciabatta. The clam chowder was just so so, nice enough flavor but not much in the way of clams. As the soup bowls are so small you don't really get a hearty meal. Left feeling still hungry. The restrooms could really do with some updating. read more

The chicken was knock-you-socks-off good, and the green beans were cooked just perfectly. A Kilkenny cream ale to pair with it only sweetened the deal. Nice guy, feel bad about the poor rating, but I was ignored when I came in. Then he was talking up his crab cakes and he got me hook and sinker! Do not order them, they are tasteless. Clam chowder was almost tasteless (had to add tons of salt and pepper to taste anything at all) but the steak sandwhich with mushrooms was very tasty (and greasy) so it wasn't my tastebuds. Three of us stopped here after a trip to Niagara Falls, based on our Yelp research. We didn't want to do anything touristy in Niagara Falls and I'm familiar with Port Colborne. Plus, after a day at the Falls, you want to check out the Welland Canal, which ships use to bypass going over the Falls. We had to sample local beers, and try poutine. It's a Canadian staple, after all. For dinner, I had the Lake Erie perch, and the two lovely ladies with me had Asiago Chicken and Pork & Peach pasta. I sampled both and have to say, of the three dinners, mine was my least favorite. Lightly breaded was just slightly too breaded on the perch for me, considering I'd have preferred no breading. We, unfortunately, walked in right after a big group that had gotten off of a sailboat that had just finished transiting the Welland Canal, and therefore service was slow. However, this was not the staff's fault. I'd highly recommend Canalside to anyone looking for a medium-priced option in Port Colborne. read more

LOVE this restaurant. The atmosphere is like no other in the region. My only critique, please offer VEGAN options. I really wanted to try the Dill Pickle soup - but it was made with animal products. Stopped by after reading the reviews on Yelp. We had been staying down at the falls, and was had found ourselves here after going on a horseback trip. We were greeted promptly, and it appeared that there were only a couple of employees dealing with a vendor, and a regular sitting at the bar area. The waitress / bartender offered us the specials, and quickly left to get us a couple of drinks that we had ordered. My wife and I each tried the tomato soup, and a crab role. We had just finished our appetizer (calamari with aoli) when lunch arrived. The soup was warm and the sandwich had good flavor's. Food is likely good if you have 1.5 hours to wait for your entree. Entered restaurant with three children and five adults before 6 pm on a Tuesday evening. No chicken nuggets, no chicken tenders.....had to find some kind of substitute meal for them. Only two other tables of two when we entered this restaurant. Confirmed that they had perch; children's food served 35" later; waiter then said we have no perch you will have to find something else on menu. 5" later some appetizers arrived. Plates, glasses never cleared from table. Entrees arrived at 7:10 pm. Waiter told my son his burger was burnt; my son was very hungry and upset. They then brought out another burnt hamburger. This was a terrible dining experience. Poorly organized and executed. We are visitors to the area and found this place on yelp. We thought a restaurant with a "Pub" menu would meet our needs perfectly. Wrong. They removed the burger and gave us a discount but that does not erase the bad memory. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. EAT AT WALTERS TWO DOORS DOWN. STORY BELOW. My family and I are vacationing from out of town and ate here on the recommendation of a local clerk. We arrived around 5PM on a weekday; it was sweltering in the restaurant. No A/C. Then, it took almost 20 minutes just to receive drinks and another 45 minutes after we placed our orders to get our food. No drink refills, no bread, just sweating and silence. I won't comment on my family members' food, which was borderline awful and served to illustrate this restaurant's poor quality in a variety of their dishes, but will describe only mine. I ordered "chicken souvlaki". This is generally marinated chicken pieces grilled on a skewer, instead I was given a chicken breast with a barely edible marinade and coated in a runny white sauce (their attempt at tzatziki?)This was served with ice cold mushy green beans and half-cooked wild rice that was so under-cooked I couldn't crush the grains with my teeth. When, after barely managing to force down 10% of my meal, I set aside my plate, the waitress finally asked her first question of the night "was this alright?". I explained that no, it was inedible, and her response was to simply state "you should have said something". I replied that I did not have another 45 minutes for the kitchen to try again as I have both my young children with me. She offered no apology and simply took the plate away. After another agonizing wait we received the bill; with full charge for my inedible chicken meal. Not only is this discourteous in the least, but defies basic standard practice for any restaurant. Please don't debase yourself by eating at an establishment that fails to provide even the most basic courtesies to their customers. Not impressed. I've been here twice as I now do business in the area and both times I was disappointed. If you dine here do not sit at the bar. It is a work station for the servers to count papers and not a place for patrons. Being solo on business trips I sit at the bar for dinner and have been ignored on both occasions. Tap beers are warm by US standards. Mixed drinks are improperly prepared. Service was nonexistent. I had to hail a different employee each time I needed something, which was rare. Even to pay my bill which I nearly had to walk out on since most of the servers were preoccupied with talking about themselves than tending to customers. Bartending skills need a serious upgrade and servers need to take their paperwork to the back of the house where it belongs. My server/bartender was a young chap who was so far removed from the service industry that I wondered about the hiring practices. He said he was hired in May but I thought it was his first day. He was unwilling to engage the customers and hadn't the slightest inkling on what constitutes even remotely decent service. Totally inexperienced and obviously nobody has trained him on how to do a proper job. I ended up asking other employees for help since he was preoccupied talking about sports or something for 30 minutes to somebody. Luckily one of the servers was counting her till in front of me so I asked her for help. She was off the clock and helped me more than the kid who was "working." My entree was the salsa chicken breast. The chicken was tasteless and slightly raw in the center. The mashed potatoes were obviously microwaved and tasted like instant potatoes. For $18 dollars I expected something that tastes good. When I finally paid my bill after standing around for 5 minutes about to walk out, the bartender had no idea how many drinks I had had since he served none of them. Fortunately for the establishment I am honest. The only reason I would return here is because it is open on Sunday as much of the town shuts down. And it's convenient to my hotel. But from now on I'll probably just walk up to the Subway. read more
