As you drive onto the campsite there are sacks of logs for you to buy - because here you can actually have a proper campfire(in the allocated fire circles. The site is a couple of large fields, a pond with a small kiddies playing area, a well maintained shower block and nothing much else. Set in the most idyllic out of the way place (although theres a couple of small pubs a short walk away). I live about 15 miles from here, and we often pack our tents after work and pop down here to spend the night chatting and relaxing round a campfire. Brilliant

There is plenty of toilets and showers so never too long to wait. The pub/cafe is great serves food all day so brilliant at breakfast time for a black pudding and fried egg roll! The one down side is the turning off the main road heading south as its very very tight and in a small car its a 3 point turn or have to drive on right hand side of the road before the turn left. No chance in a bus or caravan they are advised to approach from the south heading north along the road beside lake windermere.

Well with this year being all about trying new things I collected the code words from each paper & selected a 3 night weekend break in Grange-over-Sands in a static caravan on Lakeland Leisure Park, thinking I'd got a bargain at only £9.50! It turns out that you have to pay for full occupancy (4 people) which is £38, then £25 for the services (gas & leccy), £7 (per room) for bedding and if you're taking the dog an extra £20 for her too. Our £9.50 holiday was soon mounting up... It worked out at a grand total of £90. So what did we get for our £90? A caravan. Obvs. With 1 double room, 1 twin room, a shower room & an open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area with a parking space outside. It was basic, but haven't you heard that saying..'you get what you pay for'? That said, it was clean & spacious with everything we needed so no complaints there. We also got 2 entertainment passes (which were kindly 'thrown in' by reception staff but should've cost an extra £10 each). The website says you need these to gain entry to the pub & activities but we didn't need them at all. (We didn't actually do any activities though, so that could be why!) A lovely setting. Lakeland leisure park is located in Flookburgh near Cartmel, right on the coastline and although it's very big, and very busy, it's extremely well looked after. There are 2 sides to the park, those owned by Haven and those that are privately owned. It goes without saying that the privately owned holiday homes are far nicer but I'm sure they pay far more than £90! The park is still undergoing development as well, expanding pitches around their new Otter Lake which has it's own club house, watersports & makes for a lovely dog walk! Great service. From the moment we arrived at reception we were greeted with smiles and a happy to help attitude from Chloe who described where all the facilities were & explained how to get around the site. On the 3rd day our fire stopped working but after a quick phone call to the office the maintainance guy was on hand to fix it within half an hour. Fun. When you see the flashing plastic of an amusement arcade it immediately takes you back to being a kid, mithering your parents for one more pound to waste on the 2p machine. Within moment of walking through we were again enthrawled in wonder of slot machines and claw games trying to win what we could. We felt like children again but it was fun, and we won this guy too! One thing we didn't get was the weather, despite the weekend before (Easter) being the hottest of the year so far, the weather became a bit gloomy & cold and even rained most of the day on the Sunday. I'd unfortunately been struck down with the flu just before we arrived so if I'm honest the weather didn't bother me much, I used it as a well needed excuse to stay indoors and try to keep warm. This does lead me to the only negative thing about the weekend. It was cold. As the basic caravans don't have central heating you rely heavily on the small gas fire in the living area. It reminded me of a fire my gran used to have when I was a child! It emitted quite some heat when on full but as soon as you turned it off the place went cold very quickly waking us in the night. We ended up sleeping with an extra duvet over us and a hoody on in bed! Even the dog was cold. On the last night we decided to leave the fire on (low) all night, it helped a little but what these caravans really need is central heating. I can totally see why places like Lakeland are a massive draw for families. Everywhere you look there is something going on for kids of all ages, there's no time for boredom! I didn't use the swimming pool (too poorly) despite my best intentions but perhaps I will next time. The pub was fully stocked and we sat to watch the football there with some nachos and a couple of beers, and although we didn't have a meal there it looked to be typical pub grub at the usual cost and there was a chippy next door too. I think I'd like to try that next time too! Overall I have had a great weekend. Lakeland leisure park has one or two flaws, but for a 3 night weekend away with the dog for only £30 per night... Can you really complain? I think not. I think we got far more than what we paid for!

They also sell all of the little gadgets that you would need to go waking in the lake district and in this area it is best to be prepared. You can get everything from your walking sticks to a gps here. They do sometimes have sales on the gps systems but normally they are more expensive that elsewhere. They have a good range of rucksacks of all sizes. The footwear that they sell is quite decent but pricey for what you get and nothing that you cant get in other outdoor shops in the area

This is a brilliant site for people who don't want the parties, the crowds and hustle and bustle of…read moresome other sites. The site is what it is called and this is what attracted us. Don't get me wrong or think I'm being boring as we like to party and have a good laugh as much as anyone else it's just we have an 18 month old baby and therefore this quieter site therefore suits us. The site has many awards under its belt and also has its own pub what is an absolute must. The bar is an old barn and all are welcome including dogs. It has pretty good facilities including good showers and the on site shop gets you away with any essentials you may have forgotten about. The views are good over Ullswater what is about 1 mile down hill. In general the site is small, low key, dog friendly, not over run by kids, quiet site and in a good location.

There is a pub on site which sells local beer and lager however the owners are missing out on the fact they could make a mint if they started selling bar food or meals. Our weekend was really nice however there were quite a lot of children running around the site making noise during the day when there is a playing field provided. I havent a problem with this but the parents should have more respect for other people who are here to relax. Overall we liked the site and will definately be coming again. Close to pooley bridge and penrith. Keswick is easy half hour drive.
