We couldn't get two campsites next to each other, but we were across the street from one another so it wasn't a big problem. I would take a look at the map first so you know where your site is otherwise you'll need to backtrack. I had zero expectations and experience with camping and I thought the campsite was big enough for 2-3 families to hang out comfortably. We were close to the other sites, but fortunately it wasn't loud and everyone was pleasant. The restroom was clean and we didn't opt for the shower. I did take a stroll to see the other campsites and I noticed some were smaller and some were on a slope. Unfortunately we couldn't use the fire ring/pit, but my kid had a blast with his friends. This is a great campsite for beginners.

Quiet hours were 10 pm and everyone was pretty respectful of it. There are pit toilets, no soap, no running water in the bathrooms. It's a big contrast from the desert below , cool air, tall pine trees, and quiet forest trails. The trails around Long Valley are pretty easy, so you don't need to be a serious hiker. One thing to know: it's much colder up here than in Palm Springs, so bring a light jacket and wear comfortable shoes because you'll probably end up walking more than planned. It's a nice little nature break after the tram ride, and definitely worth spending some time here before heading back down.

The staff needs to do better and hire people who can thrive in a place such as this. Not bums who need a place to stay where they can invite their negative energy to a sanctuary such as this. The housekeeping also wasn't the greatest we ended up doing alot of cleaning since the staff failed to do so. I saw a previous reviewer say how this place has "toxic masculinity" and I agree entirely the presence is very off. I will never be returning to this site again, I truly believe the only hope for this camp is new management or new staff maybe even both.

There is a portable Ac in the living room and a window ac in the bedroom. My child slept upstairs in the loft bedroom. The main issue is that you can't run both the portable and bedroom ac at the same time because it pops the breaker. The window ac is very noisy and makes a rattling sound. Don't even try to use the toaster and ac at the same time. It was 90s during the day and still very warm at night. It was an inconvenience not being able to run both AC units at night. They provided towels, toilet paper, soap and pans but no hair dryer. The groceries at the market are extremely expensive. Best to buy all your food at the stater brothers down the mountain to the campsite or go to the grocery store in Idyllwild. I rented the pontoon boat for fishing and that was my favorite part. It was so relaxing to cruise on the lake and enjoy the beautiful Mountain View. We caught a very large cat fish with the night crawlers. I enjoyed four peaceful days there, and, surprisingly, there were never more than three campers present. The other visitors were all gray-haired, which contributed to the serenity--there were no barking dogs, loud generators, music, or screaming kids. I spoke with some long-time campers who advised against visiting during holiday weekends and summer; they warned that it can turn chaotic. Marion Mountain, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, exudes character and has a relaxed atmosphere that is not geared for partying, although some attempt to make it so. This campground strictly allows only tent camping and very small teardrop trailers or camper vans; RVs and fifth-wheelers are not permitted. The upper loop (sites 1-5) is great for van or tent camping, but parking is limited to one car/van per site, with no extra parking available. This restriction minimizes the flow of day hikers and keeps the campground tranquil. The inside loop features flatter ground for pitching tents, but it does come with close campsites, reducing privacy since the road rings around sites six through ten, which require a short walk to access. On the lower loop, the outside sites are sloped, and you also need to walk to them. The interior sites here are flat but closely packed, creating a cramped environment. I rated this campground one star for weekends and holidays, but it earns five stars on weekdays and in the shoulder seasons. I would absolutely return, but definitely not on weekends! If I want to hear screaming kids and barking dogs, I can just visit my grandkids. If you value a peaceful camping experience, choose your timing wisely!
