Jim and Lynn are hardy year round residents at this…read moreroadless camp, about a 10 minute powerboat ride from the parking lot and landing. we stayed in "Judy's Cabin", long inhabited by Jim's mother, and just renovated. This is not a sterile vacation bungalow environment. You can feel the decades of happy occupancy every day. The panoramic window view of the lake and shoreline, upstairs loft, large library, warm comforters on the beds, and the big stone fireplace and plentiful wood supply make even rainy days a delight. There's electric heat, too, when you don't want a fire. A canoe, leanto, and fire rings are just the start of outdoor amenities. We loved watching sunsets from the deck, or paddling out to watch the loons on the quiet lake as evening fell. Hearing the loons calling to each other is a special treat. Although it was late September, we went swimming off the boathouse dock on many evenings -- very relaxing. The primary hiking route is up St Regis Mountain, which can be reached directly on foot from the cabin, or with less walking from a dock accessible across the lake by canoe. There are several public leantos in the area which are perfect for shorter walks and picnic lunches. If you like dogs, Jim and Lynn's three large, fluffy, white samoyeds are eager to be your hiking companions. Although they normally stay away from the cabin and don't disturb guests, we lured them over shamelessly until they hung around with us. The full array of Adirondack hiking, scenery, and attractions are available by car from the landing. This is not a luxury camp, although many of the private camps on the three interconnected lakes are owned by multi-millionaires. It's a very cozy and rustic environment, perfect for groups of varying sizes (there are additional facilities for rent). The newly remodeled kitchen is very well equipped. Saranac Lake, a 15 minute drive from the landing, has a full array of grocery and shopping options. If paddling and walking aren't sufficient motive power, you can easily trailer in a powerboat. Jim is one of the few remaining Adirondack guideboat builders, and if you're lucky, he'll show you his work and his well equipped shop. He also has a great album showing what the camp was like over the past 100 years. All in all, this is a great place to spend a week or two comfortably communing with nature in the Adirondacks. Very highly recommended! In addition to having a great time, you're also supporting a warm, deserving couple.

Todd was very accommodating to us when we had to switch dates for our vacation. He was also great with communication, giving us detailed welcoming and departing emails stocked with all sorts of info. There was one small glitch that Todd saw to in a very timely manor. The cabin had a kitchenette that had everything we needed for our week stay. Two separate bathrooms (with abundant hot water) were very nice to have and would come in handy for two couples or a family with kids. The Wi-Fi was fantastic - no issues. TV with Roku was nice though we used it just once. We made use of the fire pit, grill and picnic table almost every day. Corn hole and a horseshoe pit were also used. We also brought croquet and bocci sets that we used as there was ample space to play. $10 for firewood that could be used for 3 separate fires was a decent deal. It's a great location between Saranac and Placid. The only suggestion I would have might be to put together a binder with suggestions of local hikes, water holes, falls to see/swim in, places to eat, etc. Here are a couple to consider: Jay Covered Bridge (swim, 30 min drive), https://www.whitefaceregion.com/story/2015/08/jay-rapids-adirondacks-best-kept-secret, Peninsula nature trails (10 min) easy trails with access to swimming in Lake Placid https://www.lakeplacid.com/hiking/peninsula-nature-trails , Donnollys ice cream 20 min, mom and pop ice cream place with just one swirled flavor that rotates daily. It's the creamiest that I have ever tasted. The same guy has been running the place for nearly 60 yrs. https://www.facebook.com/people/Donnellys-Ice-Cream/100064413290587/?ref=page_internal. There are tons of places to checkout. Make sure to do some homework and make a list before you arrive,

If you are looking for quiet, calm, and a chance to unplug (but not completely) and take a deep,…read morehealing pause, White Pine Camp is the ideal place. Our family loved the history, the cabin, the incredible scenic views, the Great Room and all the amenities WPC offers. We stayed in the larger Mrs. Coolidge's cabin, the same cabin Grace Coolidge stayed in the summer of 1926 when the camp served as the Summer White House for Calvin Coolidge. We took advantage of the huge living room fireplace and had a beautiful fire everyday for our week stay. The wood is well seasoned and burns nicely. It is charmingly rustic, clean and well appointed. The sofas are comfortable and the cabin had everything we needed. What it didn't have we asked in the office and Voila! they had it on hand. We needed a blender, a different bathtub plug and tape to fix a sled and every time they accommodated our needs. Worth noting: You can sometimes hear the next door neighbors in President's Cabin but it's only from the bedroom and it was nothing that the white noise machine that the camp provided wouldn't take care of. We didn't feel the need to use the machine since it was minimal. The beds were really comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Complimentary toiletries greeted us in the bathroom and the cabin was always warm and toasty. Our bedroom also had a fireplace and it was quite special to fall asleep with the glow of the flames filling the room each night. The upstairs bedroom has two twin beds underneath ceiling windows that give view to the stars and tall trees above (which my twins LOVED). There is also a queen bed behind a folding screen for which my mother in law said was incredibly comfortable and a double bed behind a set of curtains which my son also slept soundly on. Both the upstairs bathroom and downstairs are full baths and have large, deep claw foot tubs with no lack of hot water for a good, long soak. The views from our cabin and from the grounds are absolutely breathtaking. This is a special spot and you can hear a pin drop almost anyplace you hike, walk or sit. We also spent time at nearby Paul Smiths College making use of the gym (passes provided by WPC allowed free access to the gym, pool, library and grounds) and also at the VIC at Paul Smiths for snowshoeing and hiking (again, free with passes) My kids enjoyed bowling in the antique bowling alley and playing pool while Mom, Dad & Grandma sat by the fire in yet another huge fireplace. They sledding everyday on the grounds behind the Great Room and had a blast. Afterwards, they went inside the Great Room and made themselves a hot cocca on the Kerig machine (overseen by Grandma), provided for guests (we bought the pods by mistake thinking they were pouches from Aldi in Saranac Lake but WPC provides coffee and tea for the Kerig for guests). We sat by yet another huge fireplace in the Great Room while reading and playing chess. Yes, there is internet but often sketchy at times since we were deep in the woods, which for us, was desirable. When my husband needed to catch up on work and needed a dependable internet connection, he just popped down the road to the Paul Smiths Library which he viewed as an adjunct office. The same as President Coolidge did in 1926 as I learned from reading a book by Howard Kirschenbaum from the cute, little gift shop just off the Great Room. This place is just pure magic. I've never been to a place more quiet and Tim, the innkeeper and the entire staff go above and beyond to maintain this sense of peace and quiet throughout the camp. Cars are parked nearby but not in the main camp and you barely can hear anyone else in camp during your stay. There was 2 foot of snow on the ground for our Thanksgiving stay week and it was delightful to be there in a winter like setting. It was cold but not windy at all and totally fine with layers. The air is clean and crisp and a perfect spots for viewing the stars. We have already booked a return stay for April 2019 for the school holiday week in the same cabin and cannot wait to return. Everything was simply perfect here.

You only need to bring your clothes, food, & family. So clean & comfortable. It was like walking into a home away from home. All the woodwork was amazing! I truly did not want to leave. Every day, a portion was set aside where I just sat on the deck or in the jacuzzi & stared at Whiteface Mountain. The view could not be beat in my opinion....until we actually went up to the peak of Whiteface Mountain! Wow!!!! A humbling experience & even though it terrified me, my family loved it & we were blown away by it's majesty. Hiking trails are nearby & the quaint village of Wilmington is only a 3 minute drive. As is Adirondack Chocolates! We came to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of my husband's passing. When ever my husband & I traveled, one thing we did was find a chocolatier & he would spoil me! So to discover this tiny town has one where the truffles are made on site was so special for me. They so have so many unique gifts & the BEST hoodies in their gift shop Our hosts, Judi & Aseem, were simply wonderful. They called to greet us the day we arrived. I mentioned the tiny liquor store was closed, so we were unable to purchase a bottle of wine to toast my husband. They came by the next day with two bottles from their private stock & we had a lovely conversation. Simply delightful, & gracious hosts. Truly touched my heart. Highly recommend ANY of their properties. You will NOT be disappointed & won't want to leave! We will be back for sure!! Thank you for such a memorable, worry-free vacation

The location, on Lake Colby, is convenient to all things Adirondack as it's close to Paul Smith's College- Tupper Lake-Saranac Lake downtown Village-Whiteface-Lake Placid- and the High Peak trails. Did I mention it is lakefront with kayaks and canoes to play with? The lake has a certain outboard motor restriction of 10 mph engines. Kelly and John own the 4 cabins. 3 are lakefront. Attention has been made to the smallest details like garden plantings, cottage themes, a boat house of gear, welcome bottle of goodies, small basket on the kitchen island with small necessities like flashlights, sewing kit, toothbrush, bug spray, pads and pens and more. If you are not familiar with the Adirondacks and/or want the "ADK experience", ( an attractive cozy intimate brown one story cabin on a pristine clean quiet lake with a great view with an attentive owner) look no farther than The Cabins at Lake Colby. The location is not way out in the middle of the woods. You are close to a main road and near the local hospital---- but when you step inside you are transported elsewhere! "Moose" Cottage was top drawer! Quality furnishings! Comfy mattress and sheets! The largest Moose head I have ever seen! Decorated beautifully! I can't give it all away! The flow of the cabin works. The kitchen is large enough for two to be prepping at the granite counters and stainless propane gourmet cooktop while others easily pass by. Room enough to cook together. The propane fire really can heat the place and adds ambiance. Outside there is a fire ring and split wood. We used the grill. Adirondack chairs line up like soldiers on the waters edge. Everything you require to cook was there! We forgot mustard and Kelly came over with two types. She enjoys meeting her visitors! These cabins are ideal for the couple who wants to get away. Two cabins have two bedrooms, two are one bedroom with a living area. One sports two bathrooms. Ours had a jet tub! Our cabin sported 2 queens and a sofabed. I do not think it's appropriate set up for really young kids necessarily. Check out my photos which capture the essence of the Cabins at Lake Colby
