She obviously really loves animals and treats them very kindly. I really can't recommend her highly enough!

When we started going over the details at some point she asked the breed of my dog. When I told her the breed, she refused service and said she didn't "feel comfortable" with the breed of my dog. I explained to her that my dog is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. That's literally not a joke. He sleeps under the covers every night and snuggles with my cat and my roommate's one year old son every day. I raised him from 8 weeks to 10 years old, I know him, he would never even think about hurting anyone. Even after explaining this to her she still refused. I even texted her pictures of my dog snuggling the baby and the cat and other people. She still refused. Obviously she was not concerned with how the dog actually acted, apparently she was more worried about her image or being seen with a specific type of dog. I'm not sure how someone can call themselves an an animal person, as her website claims she grew up playing with "whatever dog I could find". And she definitely should NOT own a dog sitting business if she refuses service because she "feels uncomfortable" for no valid reason around dogs that are completely trained and unaggressive. Someone who feels uncomfortable around dogs should not be left alone with dogs. Get a new line of work. If you're looking for a dog sitter I definitely DO NOT recommend Leslie Coleman or At Your Bark and Call Pet Sitting. I recommend instead using Zoologie Pet Services. They did a great job, did not judge my dog based on the breed, and gave my him an A+ report card while I was gone.

My concern was to find a place where he can be safe and supervised. Janice was very warm to all the dogs she takes care of. He really likes it there! Since then, I have used Camp Doganuga several times for daily and overnight stays. I strongly recommend this place. I am relocating for work to the East Coast and pray that I can find a comparable place to leave my puppy. P.S. Dogs have run of the house and a large outside landscaped fenced in area. I've been using FDP for many years now, and cannot recommend them highly enough. Before I moved to…read moreTucson, I moved around and used a bunch of walkers, and FDP is, by far, the best. My dogs Pep (a pitbull) and Joey (a chihuahua) both totally, totally love Pat. They also love when Chloé and the kids join them. (We're at the point where I just say, "Hey, Pat's here" and Pep & Joey get excited and run to the door to wait for him.) Also, when I had to go away for a week, I used FDP for multiple check-ins throughout the day, and that worked out amazingly well too. Before that, when I traveled I either left the dogs with someone or had someone sleep over with them, so this was the first time I used multiple check-ins like that. And honestly, I had been a little worried about how Pep & Joey would handle being on their own, but it turns out that I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Pat and the whole family took amazing care of them. The thing is, Pat and the fam didn't just make sure that Pep & Joey were fed and walked, but they really spent quality time with them. They didn't just care *for* them -- they cared *about* them. I know I can speak for Pep & Joey on this when I say that Pat & the fam really made them feel like they weren't abandoned and that they were being cared for. It was so reassuring knowing that FDP was there. So the tl;dr of it all is: I recommend FDP wholeheartedly. I've been using them for years, and my experience with them has been an 11 out of 10.

We weren't sure what to expect, as we are new to dog training. We scheduled an initial appointment for private in-home training that was $150 and was listed to be up to an hour and a half. Following the payment, we received an email with the trainer's availability and requested a time within it. We then had to go back and forth to find a time that worked for the trainer. It would have been much more helpful to just receive a list of dates/times that were still available instead of just a general schedule for booking. Again, we weren't sure what to expect but got up bright and early for an 8:00am session in our home the morning after Thanksgiving. The trainer was 8 minutes late. I know that isn't a huge amount of time, but it was our first meeting and we were ready on time and waiting. We received some helpful tips on how to start working on the main concerns we had with our dog, but felt like we didn't receive clear instruction on what to do if the dog didn't do the command, etc. We contemplated booking more sessions, but ultimately decided against it for the amount of money we paid vs the information we received. Maybe dog training just isn't for us. Maybe we just didn't mesh with the trainer. This was our experience.

She started by asking a lot of questions to really understand all our issues and their magnitude. Then she took them one by one and offered suggestions for how to deal with each issue, also explaining relevant issues about a dog's innate (and learned) behavior. She also gave us a copy of a book she just published, her third. I had heard wonderful things about her, and now that I've met her, I can say there is probably no one in Tucson with more experience with dog training and animal behavior. She had a calm, low key presence and I am most anxious to start using her training techniques. One of the most reassuring things is that she was very clear that he is not a bad dog; he is just a dog. As the humans we have to take responsibility for letting him know what is acceptable and what isn't. And Karyn has given us the tools to know how to do that. She listens, stays calm, and responds beautifully to commands--something we honestly didn't know how to achieve before working with Karyn. What sets Karyn apart is her truly integrated approach.
