Beautiful venue for a Fall wedding!! My only complaint is that staff communication could have been better.

We we are and have made it a permenant family vacation each year as long as we can. The camp coordinators (especailly Matt) are just great and do a fabulous job making more activities than you can even do. The North Camp is definately the place to be if you want to the great beach where most of the kids are. Kirby is best keeping everything running like clockwork and really understands what the families want and even asked more then once what we liked most and if therr was anything we would improve on. My kids meet so many new friends that it was hard to keep track of them, yet I really fel t safe allowing them to be out of my site. You have really "good" people stay there that have been for years and decades in some cases.

I am very surprised that there are not more reviews for Camp Nawakwa since they seem to have a very…read morelow vacancy rate for the cabins at the summer family camp. On top of that, the vast majority of the family campers make it a tradition to come the same week every year, many spanning several generations and several decades or more. The camp has been around for 100 years, and you can feel the tradition and organization that result from that. There is also a simplicity that I respect here, as should be in any protected woodland area visited by us human beings, as we invade upon the homes of our animal and plant friends. Our family came for the first time this past summer, and every expectation was met, and then some. I would definitely go back. The fellow campers are friendly and relaxed; as is the staff. They have a daily schedule prepared for the entire week full of various activities for all ages so that the whole family can find enjoyable options. The entire staff, and especially the leader (executive director?), Kirby is organized, friendly, and just feel sincere and like an extension of family. My only complaint was the weather. We came the third week of August, and fall arrived. I was still yearning to hang out in my bathing suit at the beach to catch some rays and leisurely enjoy the many watercrafts and sporting options there. Instead, I wore sweatshirts and hoodies all week. Many would love this weather. I suffer through the cold winters of Chicago and don't get nearly enough summer like weather, so I can't sacrifice a hot Chicago summer week, and need to return in the month of July only. This place has an even shorter summer than Chicago! The camp is open year round, and many would enjoy the winter wonderland and tubing here in the snowy winter; not me.

Camp Interlaken Jcc - 8/6/21 A lot of time has past since my Interlaken days, but the memories stay locked in my head.

*Part 3 Of 3* 8/18/21…read more The last week of Summer Camp I did mountain climbing (yes, I had to call my parents again in order to do it) and had a blast. There were a few other road trips but I don't  really remember them. Hold on, I remember one now.  I don't remember where we were driving to, but we stopped by a large river with a good current.   I remember hearing the sounds of river having calming effect on me. There were some people kayaking in the water and it looked like a lot of fun. We did not stay there long, but it was fun while we were there. On the last day (unless you were at the came for two months)  there was a five mile race or so it seemed. I had a blast on walking the full five miles. I started by myself, but ended up hanging out with male friend half way though the race/walk. Somewhere along the way,  Zenobia and a few other ladies joined us.  Zenobia is the first and only Caucasian female I have ever met with that name. It is probably why I still remember her name to this day. I wonder how she is doing? I remember us talking about movies with sad endings. The movie Thelma and Louise came up. I couldn't  remember the movie entirely, so one of the women gave us a rundown on the movie.  It was one of the most enjoyable moments I had that summer. I also remember picking up a movie copy from Blockbuster (yes, they where everywhere at one point) and watching the movie when I got home from camp.   When the race/walk came to an end, the campers who were there for only one month met their parents.  By the time I came home, I was ready to get my cast taken off. When I saw what my leg looked like. It was very light compared to the rest of my body.  The scary part of it all was the bottom of my foot and chalky white leg. The Cracked skin was everywhere on the bottom of my foot.   It took two weeks for me to heal my foot and leg with lotion. After two weeks my foot and leg looked normal. It has never been that bad since dealing with a cast. As time passed from my Camp Interlaken experience,  I remember a staff member  talking about his county in Ghana. I remember him talking about how women in his country widened their earlobes.  The also wore weights so the earlobe would sag. The longer the sagging the more beautiful they were to him.  I remember him saying he didn't see the women in the places he's traveled as attractive as his country women.  Many women of  Camp Interlaken did not see elongated earlobes as stylish and would not be doing that. I remember hearing one woman say that. I smile now as I have seen people of all ethnicities doing the ear stretching.  I haven't seen  it as much now, but it is still popular...maybe as popular as....*A* bleaching is, but that is a different  different review all together. Camp Interlaken is a wonderful place, and I will always remember the good times I had. Side note: The Glow Dogs I once owned was given to a girlfriend.   Bad idea, but she was my first girlfriend at the time.  The Glow Dog was nice while I had it. In the dark hallways of my high school called The Gow School, there were times my Glow Dog was the only thing they could see of me in the dark hallways...spooky.
