Upon arrival tours are ushered into the cotton museum for an oral history, a short film, and exploring exhibits. The museum focuses on the surrounding communities harvesting cotton. No mention of the relationship of the grueling hardships of slavery and slave produced cotton. When the tour shifts to the gin, you'll stand in wonder at the industrial building. A small cotton garden, an old industrial cotton scale, an old wagon filled with cotton and a tractor adorn the exterior of the building. The Smithsonian and the National Trust for Historic Plaque plaque is on the exterior wall. The staff work hard at preserving the building. The 1925 Bessemer twin -type IV oil engine powers the gin twice a year. It's great honoring yesteryear.

For my money, the movie's greatest scene revolved around Cuba Gooding, Jr. He played the role of a cook aboard the USS West Virginia when it was torpedoed by Japanese bomber planes on December 7, 1941 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The movie shows him cradling his dying superior officer in has lap, then in a rage manning an anti-aircraft machine gun and without any training on the weapon, shooting down several Japanese planes. That movie character was based on a real man and the actions depicted in the movie are real. The Navy cook's name was Petty Officer Second Class Doris (Dorie) Miller of Waco, Texas. He was an athlete, and played fullback on his high school team. In 1939, when he was 20 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a mess attendant third class. Two years later, his heroism and resulting newspaper accounts of his actions made him an American hero. He was the first Black American to be awarded the Navy Cross for combat valor. Miller was killed in action just two years later when his carrier was sunk by a Japanese submarine. In his honor, the Navy named an escort frigate after him (The USS Miller) in the 1970's. A nuclear powered aircraft carrier to be launched in 2029 will also be named in his honor. The memorial is located on the grounds of Doris D Miller Park on the banks of Brazos River in close proximity to the famous Waco Suspension Bridge. The memorial shows Petty Officer Second Class Miller standing tall and looking straight ahead in front of an abstract metal sculpture representing his ship. There are relief panels nearby that tell the story of this hero's life.

I don't recommend that you walk through this alley unless you absolutely have to, like you're being chased by a serial killer or pervert. Oh, and if you do decide to walk through it, please wear shoes otherwise, your chances of getting tetanus is pretty high lol. Don't get me wrong, it's still cool to look at it, but I wouldn't make a special trip out here just for this unless you so happen to be in the area like at the many bars that they have here. Paid parking or limited free parking is available.

It's kind of a shame, you can tell that the bottles from the bottle caps weren't consumed in this alleyway, since it's kinda dark, with no music. Instead, I believe the beers were all drank in the Dixie Chicken next door. You kinda feel like Scrooge McDuck diving in all the coins when walking through here. You can just imagine the gallons and gallons of beer that have washed through Aggieland. This gives you some perspective on beer. I wouldn't go out of my way to hang out here. San Antonio has La Tuna with the same deal- bottle caps on the ground. Go next door to the Dixie Chicken if you're looking for a good time. They'll even remove the bottle cap from your bottle for you.

About five or so miles out of Manor on FM-973 lies this large well tended to cemetery. The first…read morething that struck me as odd was the fact that there are no trees on the property. This appears to still be an active cemetery as there are some recent burials here from the last few years and the most recent interment was from August 20, 2022. There's still plenty of room for more. Despite being surrounded on all sides by farmland, there is a new development in the area. This is a well laid out orderly graveyard with many family plot areas. Many of the names found on these stones are of German, Austrian and Swedish descent. There is no parking lot, but there is a gravel road perimeter that runs around the property. There is a decent size covered structure on the property capable of holding funeral services. There are a few graves from the late 1800s, but the majority are from the 20th-century. Two things I did not find are a Texas historical sign, and there were no CSA designated service member graves. Nor did I find any Woodmen of the world markers which are common in this area. I also saw no graves dedicated to the Pfluger or Boatright familys. If you desire to make this your forever home, you'll most likely have to contact the New Sweden Lutheran Church located in the vicinity, but not near the cemetery. When I showed up and found the place closed, I called to check, and Tim kindly agreed to give me a tour even though I was the only guest. He made sure I felt comfortable throughout and kept the experience engaging with local history and stories. We cruised around the Trinity Garden, which ended up being one of my favorite parts. On top of that, he shared fantastic restaurant recommendations. It felt more like exploring the city with a friend than a formal tour. Huge thanks to Tim for making it such a memorable experience. I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for something unique and enjoyable!

I spent about 10 mins trying all the different things our tour guide asked me to practice. I pickled it up very easily. Everyone did so as well. Anyone can ride segways. I wish we had more segways all over the country. Tour started off in the downtown Fort Worth area. We stopped at many historic destinations along the way. Tour guide was very funny and very knowledgeable. My favorite part was by the riverside. Absolutely gorgeous weather to ride Segways and made our trip even more memorable with lots of great pics. Our tour guide took some incredible pics of us. Highly recommend this experience if you're trying to do something cool and fun.
