This is the place to be if you want to ride a horse and you are a Girl Scout. They got plenty of both. Mini me and I attended the Girl Scouts Family Camp last weekend at Camp Bette Perot. For $40 we had two night accommodations in an air conditioned cabin--we had the nicest cabin they offer, leader's cabin in the Treehouse (central heat and air, bunk beds, private bath with two showers, SWEEEEET). For $40 more we each received a one-hour horseback ride. If you've ever paid for horseback riding, you know that this is about the price you'd normally pay for one person.
Other activities included in the weekend included archery (first time ever and I got a bulls-eye), tye dying (shirt provided), swimming in their large partially shaded pool with swim toys, arts and crafts (I made the coolest leather name tag thingy ever), hiking, kickball, origami, sun catcher making, star gazing and flag ceremonies. The only thing we had to provide were our own sleeping bags and food. Piece 'o' cake...literally. We ate cake most of the weekend. I'm so healthy.
Family camp means that all the kids had family members with them. Some mother-daughter, some whole family. It was great fun. The counselors were super. In all honesty I never went to camp as a kid unless you count Girl Scout day camp with ants as big as small mice in Mesquite. And I do not count that.
Girl Scouts are known for their reasonably priced camps, and this camp was totally worth every dime! read more
